Congrats

Congrats on the win against Penn State! JKBrooks85 (talk) 06:44, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Heh, thanks --but I didn't play in the game (or even yell or take photos from the stands) ;-) --Bobak (talk) 03:14, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
It's still always a nice feeling to end the season with a win, though. JKBrooks85 (talk) 10:35, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

This must pertain to the David Watson (coach)‎ article. There's nothing here that is defamation or WP:Libel because, as you must very well know, the truth is an absolute defense. I think I understand the confusion now: The LA Times archives for September 7, 2008 are totally down, however I was fortunately able to find a copy of the article at a different source. While it is true the WP:BLP restricts reckless, wrong information or an article that uses legitimate sources for an obvious hatchet job, this article is neither. As BLP notes: "Controversial material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately": A solid article from the LA Times does not apply; especially now that the active link was restored. --Bobak (talk) 15:43, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment

Thanks for the advice. I apologize if the references aren't formatted correctly, I don't really know how to write in the time accessed, author, etc. If you could let me know how to, it would be much appreciated. I'd like to do things properly around here.

I'm the one editing the Taylor Mays article right now.

--MrDuke32

I noticed you took the photo for the resort. I was wondering if you'd be interested in rewriting the article? I stumbled across it today and it's a rather nauseating puff piece. I googled the user name "Blenihan" (the person who added all the crap) and quickly came up with results for "Brendan Lenihan," aka the director of operations for the resort. As you know, this is clearly against Wikipedia's policies. I think it's a notable enough place, though, so I was wondering if you'd look into making it read less like a brochure pamphlet and more like an encyclopedia article. I can ask Mr. Lenihan's assistance as well and get him to comply with our policies...but I don't know if he'd really care about doing that. Let me know what you think. Mike H. Fierce! 02:36, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I had to stifle a laugh as I was reading it. The section about the 30 awards and what flowers are on the golf course were my favorite parts. Clearly the person had never read anything on Wikipedia before and thought it was a cheap way to get the resort some publicity. I'm sure it's a nice place and all, but Jesus. Mike H. State Defense Forces

Would you mind looking at State Defense Forces as a candidate for a temporary semi-protect? I have been reverting vandalism and other unsourced edits from a few SP ANON IP's. Thanks. Newguy34 (talk) 04:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Huron Plainsman

I saw this article on the newspaper that you created more than 2 years ago. I created a similar article, Brookings Register, a South Dakota newspaper. Very soon afterwards, someone put a tag saying the article is not notable. Can you offer advice?

Jeremy Bates

Hi, I noticed you moved Jeremy Bates to Jeremy Bates (tennis player), because there are now over a hundred links to the dab page, and I suspect that most if not all are intended for the tennis player. Can you point me to some discussion that supports the move, please, or should we just move it back, per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? Cheers, --AndrewHowse (talk) 23:39, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

LOVE your template!

"Blocked for idiocy" pretty well sums up what some of these goofy kids do here. I hope Kafziel still has his "permanent vacation" template up. I need to check with him on that. Thanks for the block and thanks for the laugh. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

WP:ATH

Hi. I think there is a needs for additional clauses in WP:ATH that specifically apply to American college sports. The state of college sports in the U.S., particularly football and men's basketball, is such a special circumstance compared with other nations (fanbase, economics, marketing, etc.) that it warrants a special provision. It is equally clear that blanket criteria are not going to mesh well between U.S. sports and others (association football, for instance). There is a lot of ambiguity with WP:ATH the way things stand. What do you think? Strikehold (talk) 00:02, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Chimp attack article

Hey, nice work getting a solid piece on Travis (chimpanzee) posted so quickly. I was sure an article was forthcoming, which prompted me to set up a bunch of new sub-cats of Category:Apes, including the one for Famous chimpanzees -- and just in the nick of time, as you added your article about 3 hours later! (I just added the article to Category:Animal attacks.)

I noticed you have a USC connection, so I couldn't help wondering if you were aware of a very similar attack which took place in So. Calif. about 1-2 years ago, where the victim's face was also ripped off (as well as fingers and genitals). Judging by the national tv news reports, that incident is unknown to East coast reporters, as it hasn't been mentioned at all that I know of. Cgingold (talk) 21:47, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

PS - I forgot to ask, where can I see your "Blocked for idiocy" template? Cgingold (talk) 22:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Travis (chimpanzee)

I added some external links of the chimp on the Stamford Advocate and also an Associated Press You Tube, but somebody removed them. It is my understanding that external links are for pictures and other media we're not allowed to upload but that would improve the article. --Chuck (talk) 23:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

File:11-15-05-43.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Target Plaza South.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Target Plaza South.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 18:36, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Just to let you know that I recently copied the above image that you uploaded to Wikipedia over to WikiMedia Commons, the Wikimedia central media repository for all free media. The image had been tagged with the {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} template. Your image is now available to all Wikimedia projects at the following location: Commons:File:Target Plaza South.jpg. During the move I changed the name of the image to better reflect Naming Conventions policy, duplicate file name and/or Commons naming restrictions. The article that contained the image has been updated to reflect the new name as it exists now on Commons. The original version of the image uploaded to Wikipedia has been tagged with WP:CSD#F8. Claim of OR in 1941 (film)

Three pages in the Culhane book are devoted to the special effect editing and photography which validates the original statement. The book details the landmark special effects and "movie magic" and specifically refers to the 1941 (film) as an example of Sfx at its best. You may have been confused over the use of a quote as the source of the statement that was in question. The quote was put in for an entirely different reason as there was some contention in talk and edit comments that the film was not carefully produced and although it was not a well-received product, it was a good example of production values especially in harnessing small-scale miniatures and composite photography. That led to the note being added to the citation. FWiW, unless you have noted something other in the reference source, I will be removing your tag. Bzuk (talk) 22:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC).

Proof (rapper) article

Since you decided to impose your own personal POV on this article by protecting the page after clearly removing a minor edit meant to make the article more in line with NPOV (after your own statement that the line of text that was removed there was to make a "character statement" about Proof, which obviously shows you have a personal bias when it comes to this article) I will be taking this matter up with other Wikipedia administrators. Regardless of your own feelings about Proof, your attempt to keep the article about his life from being balanced is rather disheartening and a sad statement on misuse of power on this website. ColoradoCNC (talk) 10:18, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, you're obviously someone trying to tone down the spectacular nature of his death --the fact that he murdered someone before he was murdered himself. That article is rife with problematic editors. --Bobak (talk) 15:24, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
It is unfortunate to see that, for the second time, you have made an unfounded conclusion about me with little to no evidence to support it. I am in no way trying to "tone down" the events surrounding his death. The issue at hand is that you are placing content into an article which serves to politicize it for no other reason than, based on your edits, the fact that you seem to have some personal issue with Proof. No one is denying that the man was a murderer, despite your claims to the otherwise, the problem is that there is no room for such bias on Wikipedia which I would assume that you, as an administrator, would already know. The only problematic editor I seem to see for that particular page is you. ColoradoCNC (talk) 09:24, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Proof murdered a man who was a veteran. There is no reason to edit that down. Your arguments amount to nothing. Sorry. --Bobak (talk) 17:54, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Understandable. I assume you will, now, provide links to the articles you have edited regarding every single murder victim who, at one time or another, served in the United States military or that of any other country in order to show their connections to the military. Right? Because, unless of course you have edited the Wiki of every single person who was killed in a notable enough way to be mentioned in Wikipedia who served in ANY military, your bias is clearly showing. 71.92.67.69 (talk) 09:06, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, could you please take a look at Michael Tauiliili. User:Vaoiiva has repeatedly removed contentious material that I think is well-sourced and BLP-compliant. Consensus of editors on page appears to be for inclusion. It also appears Vaoiiva may have a conflict of interest on this subject. Thanks. Strikehold (talk) 23:18, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Your blocking templates

Your templates are unprofessional. Having a degree doesn't make you respectful. You really should learn how to be professional when you're dealing with disruptive editors. If you're overwhelmed by stupid people then log off and take a breather, don't run with it.

Congratulating an Army IP address for wasting taxpayer dollars is not considered acceptable. People in the military are entitled to say those kinds of things to each other, not you to them.

Be careful how you talk to people. Stop taking advantage of the fact that you talk to people like this in front of a screen. --GnarlyLikeWhoa (talk) 02:26, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, you're unconvincing. A worthless vandal is a worthless vandal, and the fact that they're using tax dollars (something I've noted when I've found just about any gov't entity IP being used for vandalism) is amusing. And your thinly veiled physical threat lets me know you're not someone I should worry about. Thanks. --Bobak (talk) 19:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Physical threat? What are you smoking? Really? What I was implying is that since the dawn of the internet age, sometimes those who can't say what they feel in person do so on the internet....simply because they can.
I get that you're eager to discredit me. That's fine, on Wikipedia I expect it. But seriously, be nice! What do you have to lose by killing with kindness? --GnarlyLikeWhoa (talk) 20:32, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Welcome to grown-up land. The wording "Be careful how you talk to people. Stop taking advantage of the fact that you talk to people like this in front of a screen." would get you reprimanded or fired in grown-up land. So grow up and stop wasting my time. --Bobak (talk) 16:08, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Surely your sarcastically-worded blocking statements constitute the epitome of maturity. You're so right, thank you for educating me Mr Admin. G'day. --GnarlyLikeWhoa (talk) 00:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism is vandali...ZZZzzzzzzz... --Bobak (talk) 16:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
(out) I have to agree with Gnarly's messages. While no one respects a vandal, your block templates and messages are just rubbing things in people's faces unnecessarily; they feed the trolls and reflect poorly on Wikipedia. I see that you're still doing blocks like that, and I hope you will start using normal block templates instead. I don't want to have to go to ANI and bring other people in for an issue like this, so hopefully we can settle it like adults here. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for chiming in, but don't threaten me with ANI. --Bobak (talk) 23:48, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Wasn't meant to be a threat, just a friendly message. Like I said, I was hoping we could settle this without having to make a big deal over it and bring other people in to make a mess. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:50, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
