Possible Username Problem

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. See WP:IU #5: "Usernames that promote a controversial or potentially inflammatory point of view." Thanks. OfficeGirl 16:44, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear OfficeGirl, For many years was teased about my name, both at school, at work, and socially. It has taken me many years of soul-searching and therapy to come to terms with my name, and to truly own it. I am proud of my heritage, and will not be made to feel ashamed because of other people's prejudices about my family name. Thank you for your concern, I wish you well with your username, and hope that one day you will feel able to use your real name with pride. Bob Pervert 16:47, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at your contribution history and saw that you are making nothing but good faith edits in a clear effort to improve the encyclopedia. I appreciate that as does the Wikipedia community as a whole. I want you to feel welcome here and participate as a regular user in the long term. That being said, it surprises me to hear that this word is your actual surname. I am not an administrator and I am only alerting you to a possible problem because I want things to go smoothly for you on Wikipedia. If others take offense due to the ordinary dictionary meaning of the word "pervert," you might want to consider the path of least resistance and update to a new username. I'll leave that up to you and any Admins who may be called upon to address the name issue if someone else makes a report. I will not make a report of your username because I have observed you as a good faith user in your first several edits on Wikipedia. I wish you the best! I find this username extremely offensive and will be reporting it to an admin —Preceding unsigned comment added by Souffhampton City Council (talkcontribs) 15:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The meaning of the word "pervert" is not particulary inflamatory (exept for the person that its being refered to as one), if this is his actual surname I don't have anything against it being used as a username. On a different note that last comment seems like trolling based on the edits that this user has made both on his IP address and this registered account. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:14, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
