Welcome to Wikipedia! Is this Daniel Hicken? Nik42 02:36, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
No. It's not Daniel Hicken. Why would you, Niko Tailleur from the alternate universe of Ill Bethisad think that I was Cartographicus? ;)
- Ouelcomme, Monsieur 'Icken, ouelcomme! Did you do the Swedish translation yourself? Impressive! Cheers, IJzeren Jan 08:05, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC).
I had some help from my Lärare for grammar issues, but I was otherwise the sole author. And thank you sir. I tried to decipher your Dutch, but I´m not that advanced in my Germanic languages to get that...and yet, somehow, I manage to understand most of the Anglo-Saxon wiki.
- Hehe, Anglo-Saxon is far outside my league. But I'm glad that you consider moving to Europe. But why France?! Please consider the Batavian Kingdom instead! :) Cheers, IJzeren Jan 19:38, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC).
France because we both speak it and we've both lived there. While the BK is interesting, we don't speak the lingo, which for the Missus is an important thing...although we may grab the Tethys to pay you and yours a visit. :)
- THAT, of course, would be greatly appreciated! IJzeren Jan 06:31, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC).
- Why'd you remove your school? Nik42 08:50, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I have a question too! If "Bo is a nickname from my father", as you write, then who is Arthur?! --IJzeren Jan 04:46, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi BoLingua,
I'm curious about the recent entry you made regarding removing the population of June suckers from Utah Lake. Your entry said the information was based upon recent media reports, so I'm just checking up on that and trying to find out if there has been some inaccurate media coverage. (Sometimes it happens.)
I work for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in their public relations section. We recently reintroduced several thousand June suckers into into Utah Lake from Red Butte Reservoir in Salt Lake County (which is undergoing dam repairs); so instead of removing them from Utah Lake (which wouldn't really be practical), we're currently putting them back in. As far as carp in the lake are concerned, as you mentioned, they're a huge problem. There are discussions about how to control the carp population in the lake, but a general poisoning of the lake would be an (impractical) extreme last resort that isn't currently on the table.
Thanks!

- Then I stand corrected. I thought I had heard that in the news here. Please feel free to adjust that. :) Bo-Lingua 21:55, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you sir! I thought you might have heard something that I wasn't aware of. :-) — Maylett 23:30, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
Re: Friendly Hostility
[edit]I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the comic. I did a little bit of research on it in my recent organizing of the webcomics articles, but about all I know about it is it's one of the more prominent of the yaoi genre. If there's an edit dispute, let me know, but I can't really comment on content-specific material, such as spoilers. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 03:35, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt response. I'm trying to stave off an edit war, wanted to make sure there's concensus. Is there a "convention" as to character descriptions? Is it normal to only expose what's said in the initial few comics so that would-be readers get a taste of it without spoilers, or has this even been discussed in the Webcomics Wikiproject? Bo-Lingua 03:37, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- It depends on the subject, really. Some audiences are more comfortable with spoilers than others, and Wikipedians have diverse opinions as well. In general, Wikipedia is not in the business of obscuring information, but you do have the option of placing a {{spoiler}} marker before plot reveals if you'd like. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 03:42, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Wenedyk Page
[edit]Looks like they're still trying to get it deleted...I guess I should get my novel published ASAP and that way we can say it's in published work. ;) You still need to e-mail me your thoughts on the story! Bo-Lingua 00:33, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Deleted perhaps not, the {{importance}} tag has been around there quite a while. The motivation of the person who added it was: "The article was only kept because there was no consensus. No evidence of notability has been provided." Well, apart from the fact that I dislike the habit of some people to stick all kinds of tags on virtually every page, I think the evidence hás been provided. But, since I'm the creator of the languages in question, it's not my place to remove the tag (feel free to do it yourself if you think that's appropriate, though).
- As for my comments on the story: yes, I was working on it, but then got a little distracted. Wenedyk has been going through substantial changes during the last half year, and I finally wanted to update my pages. I'll get working on it as soon as I can.

Protecting your userboxes
[edit]Because of the current campaign against userboxes, it's pretty likely that many of your boxes are going to get deleted from their template space soon (especially your Flying Spaghetti Monsterism box and your religious boxes, but in general, any boxes that could be considered to express a point of view someone might disagree with). These templates could very possibly be deleted in the next week or two. The best (and really, only) way to protect those userboxes is to perform a "substitute" command on each one of them, which will put the code directly into your page, instead of calling on the template every time your page is loaded. That way, when the template is deleted, it has no effect on the code resident on your page.
In order to do this, go into your user page, and wherever you have a template, insert "subst" inside the brackets. So,
{{template name}} becomes {{subst:template name}}
and your userboxes will all take up residence on your page. Sometimes this makes the formatting funky, and will require some tweaking in the code to restore the layout of your boxes as they were before. If you have any questions about this, please drop me a line. Regards, JDoorjam Talk 23:18, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Help Request
[edit]BoLingua,
User:Enormousdude has taken up editing Mormon articles. His edits tend to consist of duplicating information from the controversy sections and then pasting them into other sections. Either that or other facts, duplicate mistakes, or other garbage. I have pretty much reached my limit on reverting him, and he will not respond to my requests to discuss the issue. Any help you could give would be appreciated, particular with the Book of Mormon article. Thanks. --Hetar 06:09, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Cherryh articles, v2
[edit]It's a pleasure, and thank you for all the work you've been doing, and I hope will continue to do, on C. J. Cherryh and related articles. --Bruce1ee 05:30, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Have a tulip
[edit]Heh, how nice, thank you very much, have a barntulip! Bishonen | talk 18:54, 1 May 2006 (UTC).
- I'm deeply honoured. I'll even have to post this on my main page.
Re: Cherryh collaboration
[edit]Thanks for the note on my talk page -- it's a pleasure working with you on the Cherryh articles. I think there's lots more to be done, too, and I appreciate all the contributions you've made to them as they are now. Cheers! Fairsing 06:07, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi dude! Nice job on the On the Moon pictures! Thats had people tearing their hair out for ages, it seems. It took me a whole two minutes to accidentally revert one of your edits! *bangs head on wall* Sorry about that. CaptainVindaloo 21:48, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Not the least worry! I think as we get more text we should move them back below the headers. And remember, we are all Insanity Prawn Boy, and We Are On The Moon! (SCHNITZELHAUSEN!) Bo-Lingua 21:49, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Reverts on B of M
[edit]You did better than I - and went back to a version that was more appropriate. I was being generous. Keep up the good work. -Visorstuff 20:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Rouge admin
[edit]Thanks for catching it, but actually I meant "rouge" — the misspelling is a bit of a standing joke. I think it probably originated on the IRC channel, when somebody asked to be unblocked, typed too fast, and accidentally complained about being blocked by a "rouge" admin. You may even hear of "eyeshadow" or "lipstick" admins, as variations on "rouge"! ;-) See the article, the category and even the game. Best, Bishonen | talk 21:08, 25 May 2006 (UTC).
- Ah, okay. I'm glad to be in on the joke now. :) Bo-Lingua 22:18, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Contacting CJ Cherryh
[edit]BoLinga-- I noted your comments about CJC possibly not responding to your emails. Are the subject headers of your emails very clearly identifiable to CJC as NOT spam? For example, use a header such as "Is A/U related to Foreigner universe?". Another option is to use the code word COMLINK in your email subject header. CJ does not open any emails that may be remotely spam -- or any with addresses she does not recognize: all are deleted immediately. She also receives dozens of emails daily -- so again, be sure your subject header is clearly not spam. Also, thanks for your hard work on CJC's wikipedia page. : ) 67.185.158.121 10:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC)SER
- I have used the COMLINK code, as I'm sure she autofilters everything out, else. To tell the honest truth, I haven't asked anything specific of yet, thinking that CJC may not want to decide if they're linked at this point to allow herself some creative leeway. Bo-Lingua 13:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Hello :-)
[edit]As someone who's had a hand in the Entropia Universe article, I'd like to converse with you about an Anonymous user who is continually editting any sort of negativity out of the article. I'm concerned that this might degenerate into an edit war as they deleted a hefty section of the talk page too.
As someone with more experience than I, could I enlist your help?

Terry Pratchett Article
[edit]You put the unsourced tag on the article, and while I'm sure if I read through it I could find something that might be unsourced, could you instead put the {{fact}} or {{verify source}} on the parts of the article that grabbed your attention? Bo-Lingua 01:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've gone through the article and tagged unsourced statements. I'm not questioning the accuracy of these statements, it's just we need a specific reference after each of them, so that they're verifiable. A big list of links at the bottom isn't enough. Now, that's not to say that this is a bad article -- it's just that it's not yet properly sourced, and this needs to be indicated. By the way, the reason I didn't put lots of fact tags in in the first place is that essentially nothing was sourced (2 bbc links, I think). Hope this helps. --Zantastik talk 04:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ah. I just find it daunting to see the big tag on an article, and wonder what the "tagger" meant. That helps. I'll look at it in my wiki moments, and thanks for taking time to get back to me. :) Bo-Lingua 04:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
