This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at ICC Champions Trophy, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Arjayay (talk) 15:57, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Bmohanraj91
Thank you for your e-mail - as stated at my talk and user pages "I will probably reply on your talk page, or the article talk page, as discussions should be open and on the record."
As stated in my edit summary, the standard format on most competitions is Gold for winners, Silver for runners up and Bronze for those coming third, or, if there is no "3rd place play-off", Bronze for the two losing semi-finalists.
These colours have symbolic meanings, and have been long established on this page, whereas lime green, thistle etc. have no such meaning. Users should not make arbitrary changes to established formats, without seeking consensus, which you did not do.
As you have reverted your latest changes, and entered this discussion, I have removed my request for you to be blocked as shown here. Please do not reinstate your random colours. - Arjayay (talk) 16:27, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Bmohanraj91 - it would be far easier if we had the conversation "on the record" and all together in one place, i.e. here, rather than having to refer to e-mails. I have. therefore, copied your last e-mail:-
- Thanks for responding to my email. I have recently checked many tennis player (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Nadal) wikipedia pages and where I have found the attractive color used for W,F,SF and that is the reason I have edited ICC Champions trophy page. I really want to know where I can find the rules for editing wikipedia pages so I wont edit the page unnecessarily. Also I am requesting if u can add some colors for Group Stage teams(GP)
- Personally, I don't find the colours at Rafael Nadal "attractive" at all, I think they are rather painful to look at, although they do avoid using both red and green, and they probably have the colour/tone differentials required to assist colour-blind users. This is the problem "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" (or in this case, is not).
Again, personally, I think the tables at ICC Champions Trophy are clearer for only using four colours, as these, the important results, then stand out from the rest, rather than being lost in a sea of multiple colours. If you wish to experiment, I suggest you copy the table to your sandbox, get a combination you are happy with and then copy it to Talk:ICC Champions Trophy and ask for other users comments, before copying it to the "live" article, if they agree, but be prepared for objections. - You ask "where I can find the rules for editing wikipedia pages". Unfortunately there are vast numbers of "rules" be they "policies" (must do) or "guidelines" (generally should do) and they have evolved, rather than being set out from the beginning. In general, I'd start with the principle "if it ain't bust, don't fix it" e.g. if the layout has been the same for a long time, then most editors are happy with it, so leave it alone. If you want to make significant changes, then discuss them on the articles Talk page.
- Most importantly, do not Edit war - You were very nearly blocked, but I withdrew the request, because you had reverted yourself, and started a discussion. We encourage editors to be bold, but if you make a change and another editor reverts it, then follow the principals at WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, and please note the discussion takes place after the revert, i.e. when the page is back to its previous "stable" version, not after you have re-inserted the changes you want to make.
- In general, follow the Manual of style which is a large document with many subsections - a quick link to specific guidance and often be found by entering "WP:subject" or "MOS:subject" in the search box at the top RH corner of the screen, but they can link to different aspects -see WP:ITALIC and MOS:ITALIC for an example.
Finally, if in doubt, ask - there are lots of options - click "Where to ask questions" in the "Where next" section above. I am happy to answer questions at User talk:Arjayay when I am around, but I am on UTC+1 in the UK, and am often away for several days at a time. Enjoy editing - and learning - Arjayay (talk) 10:12, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
