Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Bluerabbit27, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Notes

[edit]

Hi! I moved your content to the sandbox, as mentioned earlier. Since this is a bit of a tricky area, since Gaunt is your instructor, I'm being a little more hands-on with this than I normally would be.

  • I've rearranged the content some in order to streamline the lead. I've moved a lot of the content about her career into the career section as opposed to it just being in the lead.
  • I've re-written some of the content for flow and style - with this we need to be very careful to ensure that this doesn't read like a resume or promotional piece for Gaunt.
  • Avoid using titles like Dr. in the article, as Wikipedia typically does not include these unless this is their common name akin to Snoop Dogg, Dr. Ruth, Madonna, and Dr. Phil.
  • So far this uses primary sources - this is fine for basic information, but the article also really needs coverage in independent and reliable sources. There are book reviews out there for Gaunt's work as well as some coverage in other areas - you definitely need to include this in the article.
  • I don't really know that there needs to be a section on performances. The issue with this is that in most cases, individual speaking engagements won't gain the needed independent reliable coverage to really justify being highlighted in any depth or have a section on these engagements. To be honest, most articles about academics don't have a section like this. For example, the articles on Francis Crick, Jane Goodall, and Shirley Ann Jackson don't have a performances section, despite them all being people who have spoken at many different places. Part of the reason for this is that it's generally expected that a notable academic will have spoken in various places. There's also the concern that a section like this could come across like a resume.
What I would suggest is instead creating a section that gives a general overview of her studies and work as a whole. This would encompass the topics she would discuss in her speaking engagements without it being simply a list of where she's spoken.

I hope that this helps so far - let me know when you're ready for me to review the page again. I do think that you have a good overall base, but it's important to make sure to add in the independent coverage. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:57, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Moved page

[edit]

Hi! I've done some editing to the page, predominantly for formatting and to add some sourcing I was able to find. I did remove some content from the research section such as the mention of the positive reviews, which wasn't really pertinent to that specific section. I also removed some of the journal articles since they were book reviews - stuff like that tends to not really be included unless the author only has a handful of journal articles. After that I felt that it could definitely be moved live, so I've moved it and added categories and an infobox.

Something that I would absolutely love if you guys could do would be to take a picture of your instructor and upload it to Wikimedia Commons. In many cases Wikipedia is unable to have a photo of an academic because most images of them are released under a restrictive copyright. You're in an excellent situation to get a good photograph of Gaunt and upload it as fair use, which could then be used in the article. If you can't then that's totally fine - it's something I thought I'd ask for just in case.

This looks pretty good and I have to really give you guys props for being willing to have your work more closely scrutinized and edited than if you'd edited on another person. I think that the end result is pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:45, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting needed

[edit]

@Bluerabbit27 Let's get this page in better shape. There are misconceptions written about the book. There's a reference to a male perspective that is not consistent with anything I wrote. Let's go back and clean this up. Ask the women in your group to copyedit it and find the sources you used. Your translation is off in places that distort the work.

“Behavior precedes belief - that is, most people must engage in a behavior before they accept that it is beneficial; then they see the results, and then they believe that it is the right thing to do....implementation precedes buy-in; it does not follow it.”
