User talk:Blueheels
Hi Blueheels, welcome to Wikipedia. I have recently reverted some of your edits, so I thought I would explain why. It is best to have a link point directly to the article which is being discussed. For example, you changed a link to A-League to Hyundai A-League, a link to Melbourne Victory to Melbourne Victory FC and a link to football (soccer) to football.
Both Hyundai A-League and Melbourne Victory FC are just redirects (alternate names) to the actual articles, which are at A-League and Melbourne Victory respectively. It is best to link directly to the main article.
Football (soccer) is a tricky one - the main page about the sport that you and I call football (and others call soccer) is at football (soccer). It has been informally agreed upon that when referring to football codes in Australia, they will be referred to as football (soccer), Australian rules football, rugby league and so on the first time they are used (the heading and intro paragraph). After that, they can be referred to as football for the rest of the article, as the reader would already know which code of football the article is about.
I hope this makes sense. There are many conventions on Wikipedia, you may want to read about them on Wikipedia:Manual of style. If you have any more questions you can let me know either on this page, or on my talk page! -- Chuq 03:46, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
