License tagging for File:JaneAusten.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:JaneAusten.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. File source problem with File:JaneAusten.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:JaneAusten.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. I found a licensed, coloured alternative of the same pic at Wikimedia Commons, so no need to worry about this. You can search for images on that site. Esowteric+Talk 15:19, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhhhh...thank you! I'm working on Rachana's page again. I'm not yet ready to give up.

Book cover images

[edit]

Hello! When you're uploading images to Wikipedia, you need to provide information about the source and licensing of the image. If the image is "non-free", you need to provide a detailed non-free use rationale which explains why the image meets our non-free content guidelines. Now, with book covers for an article about that book, this is easy- I've added rationales and licensing information (as well as reduction requests- non-free content should not be high resolution) to File:The Commanding Self.jpg and File:Tales of the Dervishes 2.jpg (if you click "edit this page", you'll see that it's not hard to do). However, you're going to have to add this information to the other images that you have uploaded yourself- if you fail to do so, I'm afraid the images will end up deleted. Thank you- if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page. J Milburn (talk) 19:41, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, spotted the issue and have been following along behind adding a rationale, source and licensing. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 20:13, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image size

[edit]

Hi, after spotting the issue with images, I went through them and added a rationale and licence. However, as J Milburn pointed out, the images need to be low-res. I haven't attempted to reduce the size of the images. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 08:58, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you're busy. Will convert the images to low res for you. Esowteric+Talk 08:35, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Got your message, thanks. I did convert them, though I think my 200px wide at 70dpi are a bit crap anyway, so glad you've converted the images: sounds a lot better. Just upload your versions. Hi again. Fair use of a non-free image isn't going to work for a biography of a living person where it can be expected that an alternative free version could be obtained. I don't know much about uploading images, but maybe there are two routes? Either get the author to release a picture into the public domain or -- better -- upload to Wikimedia Commons rather than Wikipedia, as was done in her brother's Wikipedia article.
That photo uses the dual licence cc-by-sa-3.0 or GFDL and requires an email to be sent by the photo's author directly to Wikimedia Commons, granting permission. See Commons:OTRS. When uploading, the permission needs to include the "OTRS pending ..." text. See the details beside the thumbnail of the uploaded image. Then you get the URL of the uploaded image and contact the author about OTRS. I know: it's all so complicated and daunting. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 09:35, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pages moved

[edit]

Hi, just to let you know that someone has moved House of the Tiger King(film) to House of the Tiger King (film), in case you think that your page has been deleted and recreate it.

Someone else also moved The Search For King Solomon's Mines to The Search for King Solomon's Mines and then you recreated the capitalized version, so there are now two versions of that article. Not sure how to deal with this: maybe contact the editor who made the move? Good work. Regards. Esowteric+Talk 09:02, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you agree with the capitalization of the title, you can request that the duplicate be deleted, see Wikipedia:How to delete a page. NB: The article has been edited since the move. Esowteric+Talk 09:17, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Speedy deletion nomination of Rachana Shah

[edit]

Hello Hewagpc,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Rachana Shah for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:32, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well done! Don't forget to breathe. :) OK, this is where an admin probably declines the speedy deletion and they either give way or else set up a proposal to delete and a lengthy debate; then an admin decides. Esowteric+Talk 19:26, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
AAAAHHHH...I hope the speedy deletion is declined! It was so frustrating. I did half the work on the page, took a break for lunch, and came back to the speedy deletion notice! Thanks again for your amazing help. It's obvious that I'm a newbie here. I did a lot of work on Wikipedia years ago when it first started and things were simple, then I took a long hiatus, and came back to all kinds of bureaucratic stuff that keeps taking me by surprise! :) --Hewagpc (talk) 19:48, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're doing fine and you're right about Wikipedia. It really used to get to me (I mean heart-thumpingly) when a new page patroller jumped on an article I was in the middle of creating. Now I build the article in a sandbox and don't copy and paste it to mainspace until it's got belt, braces and bicycle clips on. I frequently need advice. Esowteric+Talk 20:03, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that you can rest easy. Every time someone reviews the book Timbuctoo and mentions the opulence of its design (etc), that's clearly a credit to Rachana Shah as the book designer. Esowteric+Talk 21:56, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, scrub that last remark: ‎Pigsonthewing who proposed the speedy deletion has the bit between his teeth. Esowteric+Talk 14:11, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously...what's up with this guy?? It's like now he doesn't want to look like he was wrong so he'll do anything to get the page deleted. Another Wiki user gave me a barnstar for that page, and offered help. So I've asked for help. We'll see...Thanks for all you've done! Hewagpc (talk) 15:07, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for this!! I appreciate it. I also thanked you on your talk page, but wasn't sure if you'd seen it, so.. thank you again!!

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rachana Shah requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Shrikanthv (talk) 11:05, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy A7 previously declined, as notability has clearly been asserted. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 11:25, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To sum up, the sources used in the article were verifiable, but the subject is not -- at this time and given the sources used -- notable, either as any bio or as a creative person. What Rachana Shah could do with are reliably sourced articles about her work (covered in significant detail), awards for book design and then citations about those awards (again, in reliable, independent sources or the awarding bodies' web sites). The article Scorpion Soup has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable novel

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Redirecting Scorpion Soup

[edit]

I've redirected the article, but I had a few things I wanted to state about the article to explain why it was nominated for deletion and why I redirected it to the author's page since I saw on your user page that you started editing again after a long break. The first is that there are no reliable sources for the book. I did a search and was unable to see where it had received any coverage from reliable sources. Everything must have reliable sources in order to pass notability guidelines. Primary sources and blogs aren't usable as reliable sources, which were pretty much the only things I found that talked about the book. I also wanted to caution you about making the article too promotional. Going into details about special editions of books and the print run are almost always unnecessary when it comes to book articles. It also makes the article seem like it's more about trying to sell copies of the book than to write a neutral article. I don't think that this was your intent, but you've really got to be careful about this. Pretty much everything nowadays is about reliable sourcing, which is why I wasn't able to save the article. Primary sources (things released by the author, his publisher, etc) aren't usable as sources that show notability. Also be careful sources that only mention the subject briefly. Even if the book is mentioned in an article about the author, if it's only mentioned for 1-2 lines at most, that's considered to be a trivial source and wouldn't show notability for the book. Also, if you have a source that talks about something in relation to the book but isn't actually about the book, that won't show notability either. Notability is not inherited by the book discussing notable subjects. I think that's the biggest stuff with the article.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:49, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Narrative of Robert Adams, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 02:08, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello BlueLupine. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "The Narrative of Robert Adams".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Narrative of Robert Adams}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Rankersbo (talk) 12:13, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
