ANI Thread
[edit]Hello! Could you do the administrators a favor and provide diffs for some of the edits that you feel warrant a block? Are you familiar with how to do that? -- Please respond here, not on my page. I'll be watching this page. -- Best regards, --InDeBiz1 (talk) 03:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. I've deleted your WP:AIV report as the editor is not currently active. I realize you were directed there by the folks at WP:ANI, but we don't generally block IP Editors that are not currently active. The last edit was quite a while ago (as vandals go). It was clearly vandalism and we appreciate your vigilance, but those are the rules we admins have to play by. Please keep up the good work. Toddst1 (talk) 03:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Creating a link.
[edit]If you're reporting someone at the vandal board:
- For a random IP:
{{IPvandal|IP address}} In other words, you copy their IP address (123.456.789, for instance) and put that after the line following IPvandal ( {{ipvandal|123.456.789}} )). This would give you 123.456.789 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
- For someone with a user name (like you or me), use:
{{Vandal|username}} If their name was SMITH, you'd enter {{Vandal|SMITH}} which would give you: SMITH (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). HalfShadow (talk) 04:05, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate the direction - but I hope you all realize that I have been told to do several different things, which makes it a bit more difficult for me to do what everyone says to (I undrstand it's made difficult to help prevent pissing matches with people blocking each other for no reason). Someone else attached the info that needed to go with the IP address so the edits could be easily accessed. I was also told it was too late, as the last edit was 12 hours ago. I did look at many of the edits from the address, and to me they appear to be largely from one person - same spelling errors, grammar, type of edit, etc. or the entire school is illiterate. I'll do my best to do it right in the future. Thanks for the assistance Bloo (talk) 04:14, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- That was me. I made the ip into a link, so they could access the IP info faster. A lot of the stuff around here only seems difficult. Once you know how links work, things get easier. Actually, if you really want to know how to do something, page edit can be helpful. If you see a certain type of link and you want to know how it was 'done', just go to that section and edit it. You'll be able to see what the link looks like as it was typed in. There's lots of stuff to learn, but most of it you can sort of teach yourself as you go along.
- As for the vandal, they generally don't go after someone who isn't currently vandalising. If they haven't done anything within the last little while (half hour or so), they'll generally not bother because they're not currently causing a problem. Though, because iot's a school IP, they next time they get caught 'in the act' they're likely to get a longer block than usual (no random IP can be permanently blocked). You didn't do anything wrong, it's just they hadn't done anything recently enough to get blocked for it. HalfShadow (talk) 04:31, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Let me echo that point. Not only did you not do anything wrong, we need more folks like you around here. Please let me know if I can be of assistance in helping your figure out how things work around here. We need vandal fighters like you. As I said above, keep up the great work.
