Your contributed article, Muslim conquest of Afghanistan
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Muslim conquest of Afghanistan. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Islamic conquest of Afghanistan. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Islamic conquest of Afghanistan - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Jimmy Pitt talk 12:50, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I redirected the Islamic conquest page to Muslim conquest.Blindnarnia (talk) 12:51, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- The reason I reverted your edit to Islamic conquest of Afghanistan is because it appears that you redirected it to a page created by copy-and-paste. If you think that the title of the article is wrong, you must move it to the new title or, if you are too new to have yet acquired the ability to move pages, ask another editor to move it for you. In this particular instance, I suspect that the move could be contentious and you should first seek consensus by raising the matter on the article talk page. Jimmy Pitt talk 12:56, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, Sorry I was unaware a redirect differs from a move. How do I move this page now? Blindnarnia (talk) 12:59, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, a redirect and a move are very different, as you will best understand by looking at the revision histories of the two articles. When you create a redirect, all the page history up to the time of the redirect is left behind, whereas with a move the page history and the associated talk page are also moved. This is important for copyright purposes: every editor who contributed to the old page has an interest in it, whereas the new page that you created gives the erroneous impression that you were the sole author.
- As to how you make a move, when you have been here some time, and made enough edits, you'll automatically acquire the ability to move pages yourself. Until then, you need to ask another editor to do so. I have no particular knowledge in this area, so while your proposed move seems sensible, I'd be unwilling to perform the move in the absence of consensus. As I suggested above, what you should do is seek approval for the move on the talk page of Islamic conquest of Afghanistan; if other editors with experience in that area agree with you, one of them can move it.
- I hope that helps. regards Jimmy Pitt talk 13:10, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Further to the above, I'd agree that this is likely to be contentious so it's probably best if you follow the relevant procedures on the requested moves page. Unfortunately I'll shortly be heading away for a few days so won't be able to answer any questions you may have about the process. However if you ask at the help desk someone should be able to help you. Dpmuk (talk) 13:33, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, I deleted the new page as it was a copy paste move which shouldn't be done. I offer no opinion on which page title the article should be at. As a note, to move a page just use the Move function at the top as this will take the entire article history with it. As mentioned above this may be a controversial move, so it's best to get community consensus for the move before trying it. Canterbury Tail talk 13:54, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
