Wizard's Sleeve moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Wizard's Sleeve, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. AmericanAir88(talk) 05:44, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite tag: Persian War in general, etc.

[edit]

How many of these are you going to add? El_C 05:25, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

El_C Just where it's needed, so I'm done for now. At some point someone went and blanket edited all these articles with this text - in several of cases removing specific and more relevant discussion of sources for each that was already there. They all need a redo. Bledwith (talk) 05:31, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Are we talking about duplication of text? Have you gone through the page histories to see what, if anything, can be restored back? El_C 05:46, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
95% of this source section in each of these articles is the same, and it's general information about Herodotus, Thucydides and Diodorus, and not about specific sources for each battle. There's no particular value in it, and it doesn't help anyone find more information specific to the subject of the article. I'll go back and see what can be rescued from before.Bledwith (talk) 06:01, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I appreciate you looking into this. El_C 06:11, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Will Self

[edit]

I saw you were trying to pin a yellow star onto Will Self's arm. Could you instead please discuss at talk. Thanks. --The Huhsz (talk) 09:35, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. You're a seriously obnoxious sock, aren't you. I wonder who you belong to.Bledwith (talk) 12:05, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What a horrible thing to say. Pinning racial categories onto a living subject when it is not mentioned in the article isn't permitted. It was good that you were able to find sources and add to the article, but I stand by what I said. Please don't do it again. --The Huhsz (talk) 12:37, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Be still your beating heart. I'm sure it's not the first time...Bledwith (talk) 12:40, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, maybe for this one.

Will Self

[edit]

Good work on finding sources there. I noticed you cited WP:BEFORE in an edit summary; this relates to nominating articles for deletion, not to removing unsourced material from a BLP. Please be under no illusion that it outweighs WP:BLP as it cannot. (...contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced should be removed immediately and without discussion. emphasis in original) Another time, it would be better to find the sources first rather than revert unsourced material back. We got there in the end but it could have been easier if you had observed that. Thanks again. --The Huhsz (talk) 12:14, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I know WP:BEFORE is for AfD, but the same principle clearly applies before you go deleting vast chunks of material from a biographical article. Obviously WP:BLP trumps on contenitous issues - but whether Self was influenced by or just admires Alasdair Gray and J G Ballard is hardly a BLP violation. it'd be much better to check for sources that are easily found before you blank text (including removal of refs). Bledwith (talk) 12:23, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As a rule of thumb, if someone removes unsourced material citing BLP, you can assume it is contentious. --The Huhsz (talk) 12:38, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well this is clearly an example of why you shouldn't go by rule of thumb isn't it.Bledwith (talk) 12:41, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Without naming the page in question

[edit]

Hello Bledwith

It was obvious what this page was not, therefore I began editing that article because it had obvious advertising purposes & self-promotional issues. There were no references to be found and numerous claims were made without citations.

I followed the bold, revert, discuss guidelines when making my addition to this article. I may lack writing skills but I imagined there would most certainly be other editors who could provide assistance in correcting this should there be an issue.

There is no conflict of interest. Everything has been added in good faith. If a conflict appeared it would simply have been due to frustration of outside IP editors continually removing content.

But there has been the issue of individuals who outed me which has led to personal attacks at my home for at least a month. This was reported on August 1st, via Special:EmailUser/Emergency and I did inform them of this. I also updated them that a criminal harassment complaint was filed against the organization with my local police force. This harassment not only continues but has escalated. I did my best not to let them intimidate me from continuing to research their past.

My goal on this page was to provide readers with the truth regardless of what it was or where it led, Encyclopedias should not take sides. This organization has tried to block every update I added. I have no intention of turning this into a battleground.

Sadly, I will have to end my work here. I have already dealt with a Wikipedia abusers before and it is far too draining a process to make it worthwhile continuing to research this topic.

Thank you for your time.

SorryNoSorry (talk) 19:43, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SorryNoSorry Well, I'm sorry if you've had a hard time of it. That's not fair, and I hope things get better.

The problem is most of this info is not encyclopaedic in tone, is heavy on WP:OR and isn't entirely WP:NPOV. There was way too much primary quoting, especially since the members largely seem to go by aliases. I've tried to condense and restructure things in what seems a clearer way of discussing the group. Bledwith (talk) 12:58, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help with the article Bledwith. Hopefully it won't get vandalized. SorryNoSorry (talk) 13:01, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tariq Bhat

[edit]

Zerg147 (talk) 13:57, 5 September 2019 (UTC): Zerg147 (talk) 08:29, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Hi! a page I edited has been listed for deletion and I don't understand the reasons why. The page in question is Tariq Bhat[reply]

Zerg147 I listed Tariq Bhat becasue so far as I can see he doesn't pass WP:BASIC for notability - vis:

:People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other,<ref>Sources that are pure derivatives of an original source can be used as references, but do not contribute toward establishing the notability of a subject.

- --Bledwith (talk) 08:43, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Zerg147 (talk): Tariq Bhat is a Bollywood Director from Kashmir with already two films under his belt. He is a renowned figure because he is one of the very few people from the disputed area Kashmir, in Bollywood. He has a good following in Kashmir. I am attaching you all the links to the articles where he has been mentioned. I believe being one of the rare public figures from Kashmir, he deserves to be on Wikipedia. Well it's arguable whether being mentioned in the media push around a film launch is notable, but you're free to update the article to demonstrate notability, and if you get it past the bar for WP:GNG then the conclusion for AfD would be keep.--Bledwith (talk) 09:47, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Zerg147 (talk) 10:12, 5 September 2019 (UTC) : Hi, I am going to make some changes to the page and need about 24 hours atleast before it gets deleted. The changes would be such that it represents the importance of this person Tariq Bhat rather than advertisement of any sorts. Thank you for helping me[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

Due to previous abuse of talk page access by Orchomen socks, you'll have to use WP:UTRS to appeal this block. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 10:07, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@NinjaRobotPirate: I think IP 31.219.81.28 may be another sock of Orchomen. Can you check? Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 11:51, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
