This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Cognitive authority, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.db.dk/bh/Core%20Concepts%20in%20LIS/articles%20a-z/authority_cognitive.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Proposed deletion of Critical reading

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Critical reading, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? SarekOfVulcan (talk) 03:48, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Subject (discourse)

[edit]

I have nominated Subject (discourse), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Subject (discourse). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. welcome and thanks

[edit]

I came to thank you for your work on Source criticism. I've felt that article needed a major overhaul for a while, but lacked the knowledge myself to tackle it. I'm glad to see that you have been doing so. As a professor, I'm sure that you are already well aware of the importance of using and crediting references. Wikipedia:Citing sources is our style guide for when and how to do so. We allow flexibility in which citation style is used, see more particularly Wikipedia:Citing sources#How to cite sources. The links in that section will take you to further information on the mechanics of the various citation styles. For existing articles that you may edit or revise, please use the existing style. For new articles, please use whichever style is most common in the relevant field or whichever you are most comfortable with yourself.

I see above the Corensearchbot (an automated bot that helps us identify potential copyright violations) flagged Cognitive authority as problematic, but the orignal appears likely to have been authored by you. Can you either 1) update the source page to indicate that you are releasing that text under the [GNU Free Documentation License]] and then drop me a message so I can log the permission or 2) email, from an email associated with that site, permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org stating that you have released the text of this source page under the GFDL. If your future editing plans include replicating other portions of your prior published writing, you'll need to attend to permissions for those pages also.

I notice that you are a fairly new contributor to Wikipedia, who hasn't yet been welcomed. The remainder of this message is a welcome template with some other helpful links.

Welcome!

Source Criticism

[edit]

Hi. Your recent additions to the article about source criticism are very good, but it seems that they do not conform to wikipedias policies which strictly do not allow the publishing of ones own original research in article space. Please read the relevant policy here WP:NOR to correct this in the section mentioned.·Maunus·ƛ· 13:07, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

advice

[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I did not delete it.

I assume that, like your other contributions, it is your own work. But in that case, please follow exactly the procedure described in WP:COPYRIGHT. Assert the copyright specifically on the talk page, and send written evidence of that to OTRS. In addition, please remember that we consider it essential to exactly specify the source from which you have copied it as a reference in the article. If you published it in a journal article, remember that you may or may not own the copyright. Even if you have a license from the publisher to use it in your own work, such as most publishers do provide for their authors, this is not a license to submit it to WP, because you must submit everything under GFDL, which gives everyone in the world permission to copy it further, even for commercial purposes. Few publishers are yet willing to do this; if you have published it with such an open access publisher, great!, but you need to say so. Wikipedia is very sensitive to the possibility of copyright violation and the nuances of its licensing, because the acceptance of a project such as ours depends upon the certain knowledge that we are scrupulous about copyright. How Wikipedia handles these things is tricky, so if you need advice, let me know.

But, as a colleague, I point out that the article is not really suitable for Wikipedia in its present form. First and most obviously, you refer to footnoted sources which are not listed in the article. Second, the style is more suited to an academic essay than the explanatory plain style of a general encyclopedia like this one--we usually do not put quotations inside sentences.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sparthorse (talk) 20:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't replace sourced content with your own agenda

[edit]

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Document classification. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. Sparthorse (talk) 20:54, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Speedy at Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster

[edit]

Hi BirgerH, you recently removed a deletion tag from Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 21:00, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Document Classification

[edit]

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I can assure you I did read your contribution before reverting it. Your recounting of events is inaccurate. You first created a new article Automatic document classification([1]) which was an incorrect redirect to [[Document Classification], which I fixed for you: [2]. You then tried to move the contents of Automatic Document Classification to Document Classification: [3]; this is the wrong way to move a article, since you erased the history of the authorship of the original article; this breaks the license terms under which editors contribute, so is a bad idea. I then fixed that for you: [4].

After that, you then edited Document classification to remove all mention of Automated Document Classification, and replace it with a very specific viewpoint on what Document Classification is, solely based on the work of one scholar: [5]. This is clear original research and deleted the significant existing content of the article. I reverted [6] your change as it removed the existing content and clearly breaches Wikipedia's rules on not including original research and keep broad coverage of the subject.

Finally, you created a new article Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster which is incomplete, improperly referenced and contains significant factual errors (Lancaster is British, not American, for example).

I encourage you to contribute to Wikipedia, but you will be much more successful if you take a little time to understand how the encyclopedia works and try to follow the basic rules. Removing article content wholesale to replace it with your version of the subject is not a good idea. Writing incomplete and incorrect articles is not a good idea. Deleting the contribution history of entire articles is definitely a bad idea. Thanks, Sparthorse (talk) 04:11, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. History of scholarship

[edit]

There is a page history of science but there is no page for the history of humanistic studies such as art, history, classical studies, religious studies, literature etc. There for I established the page "History os scholarship" which is certainly not the same as "Scholarly methods" But OlYeller21 twice deleted my page and just made a REDIRECT to Scholarly methods. Can you please explain: Why should every discipline in the sciences and social sciences have a generic article "History of science" but not the many fields in arts and humanities? Isnt "History of scholarship" the proper term?

The article Song for a special occasion has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources given to indicate that this is a notable concept in the English speaking world. Danish, maybe. Fails WP:RS

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. andy (talk) 22:54, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Song for a special occasion for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Song for a special occasion is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Song for a special occasion until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. andy (talk) 14:45, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Numeric database

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Numeric database. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Database. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Database - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. andy (talk) 11:41, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just come across this page whilst on new page patrol. It seems to lack anything in the way of inline citations, and I was a bit confused by the capitalisation and spelling in "11 september 1918 – 17 oktober 2009", from an editor with over 1300 edits! Query: (nosiness!) is English not your first language? It would explain that anomaly :o)

This article would actually probably be quite easy for you to source-hunt and bring up to Good Article status; I have the feeling that there's a load more information out there which could be included here. Nice little project for you. I'm going to drop a few hints and tips down here on your talk page for easy reference.

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:BirgerH/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you.

One last thing to keep as a motto: "It's better to write one good, well-referenced, nicely-presented article than it is to create fifty unreferenced one-line stubs!" Pesky (talkstalk!) 13:02, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How references work

[edit]

Simple references

[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:BirgerH/reftest and try it out.

Named references

[edit]
Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook>
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref>

Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

[edit]

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Here's a little bit of magic which can save you an awful lot of time and effort!

[edit]

You might want to consider using this tool - (tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py) - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well all by itself. For those it can't do by itself, it gives you a pull-down (or up) menu of templates to choose from, which you can then fill in manually. Often the problem is "No title found" - sometimes the title is obvious (especially if it's a pdf), bit, if not, just open the page yourself and choose something appropriate if there's not already a clear title there. Happy editing! Pesky (talkstalk!) 13:02, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

don't be concerned. As reviewing administrator, I removed the speedy--it meets the requirements for academic journals. But it does not have all the information of our usual articles -- See WP:WikiProject Academic Journals for the guidelines.

I notice that some of your other articles, like the one on Vickery, is similarly sketchy, and you have not fixed it. A tag has been placed on Information Analysis Center requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Speedy deletion nomination of Ronald E. Rice

[edit]

Hello BirgerH,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ronald E. Rice for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, BirgerH. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Taking Back CSD Nomination from before

[edit]

I am reverting my previous nomination of your article for deletion because as a whole I don't think it is copyrighted, just certain sections. Be sure to paraphrase or quote those sections rather than blatantly put them in. Also, you may want to consider making the article a little less "AD"-y, so that it won't be tagged for unambiguous advertising. Best. Hummerrocket (talk) 23:30, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of ISKO Encyclopedia of Knowledge Organization (IEKO)

[edit]

Hello BirgerH,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged ISKO Encyclopedia of Knowledge Organization (IEKO) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

WebCite

[edit]

Please do not leave Wikipedia related messages in the main space of articles. The WebCite outage is being discussed in two places: Talk:WebCite#2019-06-10 and Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#RfC:_Deprecate_webcitation.org_aka_WebCite. -- GreenC 12:53, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
