Welcome, Bionap!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, Bionap! I'm Ozzie10aaaa, and I've been assigned as your mentor. About half of new Wikipedia accounts receive a mentor chosen randomly from a list of volunteers. It just means I'm here to help with anything you need! We need to have all kinds of people working together to create an online encyclopedia, so I'm glad you're here. Over time, you will figure out what you enjoy doing the most on Wikipedia.
You might have noticed that you have access to a tutorial and suggested edits. It's recommended that you take advantage of this, as it'll make learning how to edit Wikipedia easier.
If you need assistance with anything or have any questions, click on the "Get editing help" button on the bottom right corner of your screen. This will open up a module with links to help pages and a place to ask me questions. You can also ask me questions directly on my talk page, or go here to get help from the wider community.
Again, welcome to Wikipedia!--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 14:45, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Paid editing
[edit]Hello Bionap. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Bionap. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Bionap|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Melcous (talk) 04:26, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please do not edit further without responding to the above message. Or you may be blocked from editing. Melcous (talk) 07:01, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- I would like to clarify that I have No undisclosed financial stake nor does it involve any paid or employed group, company or organization to create this Wikipedia page. Bionap (talk) 06:46, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hello Bionap -- Thanks for contributing this article. I believe that Nirmalya Ghosh definitely meets the guidelines for an academic. I assume from your user name you are a member of the lab? If so you need to change your user name to indicate a single specific person, as group accounts are not permitted; there are instructions here: Wikipedia:Changing username. You also must explicitly state what connection you have with Ghosh and the Bionap lab, and whether you are being paid directly or indirectly to contribute this material. For this there are instructions in the section above. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 04:18, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Myself, Nirmalya Ghosh would also like to emphasize that Bionap is my research homepage which describes the research carried out by our research group at IISER Kolkata an autonomous institution of Govt. of India. This article is being contributed by me and assisted by my research students under my guidance and instructions. This clearly does not involve any payment for creating the materials. - If you are the person the article is about, then you absolutely have a conflict of interest, as do your research students - particularly if they are acting under your guidance and instructions. Therefore neither you or they should directly the edit the article from this point forward. You can instead use the talk page to request changes. Melcous (talk) 08:29, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- I would like to clarify that i was approached (had mailed )by some Wikipedians or editors... to create my wikipedia page, following which I had started creating the wikipedia page. Let me know how should I proceed then. Bionap (talk) 03:53, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
