Daniel B. Borenstein, M.D. (March 31, 1935), is an American psychiatrist and educator, known as the first person from New Mexico elected as President of the American Psychiatric Association, an organization of more than 30,000 members.
Early & Personal Life
Dan Borenstein was born in Silver City, New Mexico, then a town of fewer than 5,000. His parents were Isaac "Jack" and Marjorie E. Borenstein (nee Kerr), who owned and managed the Borenstein Brothers Department Store which opened in 1892, and remained in business into the 1960s. Dan Borenstein and Apollo Astronaut and U.S. Senator Harrison H. Schmitt were best friends growing up.
He married Bonnie Ulland in 1967; one son, Jay.
