Wikipedia trainers requested in New South Wales

Wikimedia Australia is looking for experienced Wikipedians to help out at training sessions across New South Wales, in particular in Newcastle, Wollongong, Port Macquarie and in Parkes. If you're interested, the details are at the following link:

We'd love to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 13:14, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

  • I'm likely to be extremely busy with study (doing a Diploma and Bachelor of Arts), but shall see what my work load is closer to the time. Bidgee (talk) 14:04, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

JETGO Edit

I see you re-edited the JETGO title page to JetGo style.

You say it requires a reliable source... well I can tell you that I am the Managing Director Airlines at JETGO Australia, and that the "JetGo" style infringes on the IP of JetGo International which has no connection with JETGO Australia.

Yes we know that JETGO Australia's website has the incorrect style and I have been trying to get this changed for over 6 months.

If you and YSSYguy keep insisting stuffing with this and not accepting our advice then why not just remove JETGO's page. Because as you guys keep changing it to an incorrect JetGo style, it infringes some else's IP.

I also note that you or someone else removed the AirServices Australia callsign "JETGO" saying there is no ICAO listing??? Does not worry me but it is incorrect!

Cheers Paul PaulBredereck (talk) 07:06, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Suit yourself. But you (and YSSYguy) have been advised that posting JETGO references in the "JetGo" style infringes the trademark of JetGo International.

The correct way to write the company name is JETGO, if you need a reference go no further than our logo which you (or someone has posted) or go to IP Australia and check the trademarks. Frankly I don't care if you want to use the correct font: JETGO or simply the proper name Jetgo, but I do have an obligation to advise that the style JetGo is trademarked by JetGo International (http://www.jetgointernational.com/) which is owned by Aero Specialties, which in turn is owned by the L3 Corporation... yes we know our website has the wrong logo, and getting it changed is a major frustration for me.58.173.224.250 (talk) 22:24, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Too much traffic on the ANI thread...

Hey, Bidgee, a few comments on the ANI thread have been edit-conflicted out, so I just wanted to post here. You don't need the editnotice for Retrolord to be banned from commenting on your talk page; just removing it is probably the easiest thing to do, and they'll still have to stay away. As you may have seen on AN/I, the message has been removed. Bidgee (talk) 15:31, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Mildura Post Office, climate statistics based on Bureau of Meteorology (Australian Government)

"Not supported by anything" my edit of yesterday : certainly not, I just made an error on the Web link. See carefully this official link of the Bureau of Meteorology (Australian Government), http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_076077.shtml, where all the climate statistics are fully documented, in particular the debatable record of 50.7 °C (debatable because in those times measures and instruments (thermometers, ...) were not as serious as today). The mean monthly maximum temperature in January and February is 32.7°C, the coordinates are also those posted on this official Website.

All what was written before my edit, that is :

Mildura averages only 270 millimetres (11 in) per year but Hopetoun in the south receives around 370 mm (15 in). Variability, however, is quite high: in 1973 the Mallee averaged as much as 650 mm (26 in) but in 1982 only 115 mm (4.5 in). Temperatures in summer are generally very hot: in January 1906 it is believed Mildura reached temperatures as high as 50.8 °C (123.4 °F) and the average maxima in January and February are around 32 °C (90 °F). In the winter, maximum temperatures average 16 °C (61 °F), but minima average 4 °C (39 °F) and frosts are very common.

was approximate.

Most of the figures were wrong in the old wikipedia article :

270 mm : approximate (267.9 mm for "Post Office" or eventually 290.7 mm for the Airport outside of the city, see below) ; 32°C : approximate and even wrong (32.7°C) ; 16 °C : wrong (15.4°C) ; 4 °C : approximate (4.4°C); even the record temperature 50.8°C was wrong : 50.7°C is what the BoM indicates.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has 2 "open" climatic stations around Mildura with fully documented stats' : Mildura Post Office (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_076077.shtml), and Mildura Airport 34.24 °S, 142.09 °E, elevation 50 m (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_076031.shtml), 11.9 km from Mildura Post Office.

Mildura Post Office registered a mean annual precipitation equal to 267.9 mm (years of record : 1889 -1949) and Mildura Airport has 290.7 mm (1946 to July 11, 2013, yes July 11, 2013 which can't be more present-day and so accurate).

So these stats' aren't based on anything ?

Two things are sure : 1) your argument for removing my edit was based on anything, 2) most of the old wiki article stats' were wrong or at best approximate.

Before undoing revisions make valid researches.

The only argument of yours that I agree to accept is that my edit was poorly worded because I do not master English at all : however you could have eventually corrected my faults but certainly not erase the most accurate existing stats' about Mildura and its neighbouring. Carlo Colussi (talk) 08:01, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

You're just creating original research from figures and not from anything that states that "Mildura is the driest location in Victoria and the Mallee, with 297mm........." and "The highest recorded temperature is 50.7c.......", the sources are just figures and you're making up something that isn't there or supported (as in text supporting text) based on those figures. Also do not add the coords do not need to be added nor that it is a Bureau of Meteorology station that is an Australian Government agency. And please use the Australian date format (Day Month Year) per the WP:MOS. Bidgee (talk) 08:55, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Also on the Victoria page states the hottest temperature since world war II and not the hot the hottest ever. I suggest you read Stern, Harvey; Cornall-Reilly, John; McBride, Patrizia; Fitzgerald, Adrian. "Victoria's highest temperature on record, 123.5°F (50.8°C), at Mildura, on 6 January 1906 – but is it valid?". Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. Retrieved 11 July 2013. (and this is the type of source you need to cite content and not just figures). Bidgee (talk) 09:20, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Image speedy deletion

G'day. I would appreciate if you did not delete and tag images that I created years ago. If you aren't happy, please correct the copyright status rather than tag it for speedy deletion. --Bofors40mm (talk) 09:56, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry but they are not your images, just because you have saved them or modified them, it doesn't mean you own the copyright. I strongly suggest you take a read of WP:COPYRIGHT. Bidgee (talk) 10:00, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
I reckon that the images could at least be fair use as the diagram does show where the breakout occurred, which it repeatedly referred to in the article. I found a similar image on several Australian War Memorial and National Archive websites. Deleting these images does not help anyone. --GrantMcLMcLachlan (talk) 15:55, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Bidgee, why does not the left? This is equal to a project such as These links are http://www.tornadoproject.com but also recorded and http://www.tornado-map.info exactly the same. If it should not be so and I disturb the competition with this link or the website, then just let him off. If your already so since then but then sometimes you look at the other links. 20% are defective 404 errors on some pages 1-2 and all lead somewhere else.

Invitation to participate in an interview in The Bugle newsletter

Hi, In the upcoming edition of the Military History Wikiproject's newsletter The Bugle Ian Rose and I would like to run an interview with editors who have an interest in military history topics and are also active in Wikimedia chapters about their experiences with the chapter(s). If you're interested in participating, I'd appreciate it if you could respond to some or all of the questions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/July 2013/Interview by Monday 22 July. Prefs switch

The devs added a proper prefs switch for VisualEditor today. If you are still having problems with your browsers crashing, please enable it (see the end of Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing) and tell me whether it's working for you. (It might be good to de-enable the gadget at the same time [it's reported to be unreliable on systems that can't see VE to begin with] and clear your cache.) Hi Bidgee, just wondering if you had any images of the Snowy Mountains Highway (or even the applicable main streets of the towns along its route) within your vast collection? I have substantially expanded the article over the last few days, but imagery is still a little lacking. Snow pictures get bonus points! :P - All good if you havent ventured up that way for whatever reason, just thought I would ask :) -- Nbound (talk) 01:00, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

I've been on the Snow Mountains Highway in the past but not with a camera. Only photos I would have is the Snowy Mountains Highway exit on the Hume Highway. Bidgee (talk) 06:57, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
No worries, hoping to get something that would capture the scenery, especially within the National Park, Ill continue my searches elsewhere. :) -- Nbound (talk) 07:32, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
File:Hume Highway near the Snowy Mountains Highway exit (3).jpg is the closest photograph I've got. I may in the future get some photos done but I don't see it happening just yet, too much workload (study) and my photography fund (for travel) is almost $0. Bidgee (talk) 08:18, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
File:NimmitabelJune20051.JPG may help and have also created Category:Snowy Mountains Highway at Commons. Bidgee (talk) 08:24, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex

Under: "Recent controversies" Dear Bidgee, Would you please be so kind to become a constructive participant in Wikipedia and not to be so belligerent. Rather than trying to censure the subject why don't you try and provide reasonable justification for your censuring strategies. If you hadn't noticed, we live in a democracy and the truth always prevails. You seem to be very determined to silence me. Rather than your unjustly and overly aggressive behavior I invite you to the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex 'Talk Page'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Canberra_Deep_Space_Communication_Complex Please explain to the Wikipedia community in detail why you object to the content that I have added. Yours Sincerely Hoffmanj (talk) 00:04, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Ashton29

Hi Bidgee, Ashton29 here, I was wondering if addressing a question on an article talk page is exempt for unblocked users? I have not edited on Wikipedia for a month now and don't want to jeopardise or breach my block? As far as I know it isn't for talk pages. 101.103.68.80 (talk) 12:37, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

You really didn't help your cause by posting under an IP on my talk page. You'll need to follow WP:UNBLOCK if you want to be unblocked. Bidgee (talk) 12:41, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

I can't post on my account of Ashton because it's blocked! I told you who I am, so what I did wasn't really detrimental to my cause. 101.103.68.80 (talk) 05:05, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Infobox station

Note that the bulk conversion of NSW and Sydney railway stations will be done by a BOT. If you contact User:Plastikspork he should be able to add the non standard things you wish to include. What I mean by that is things like "style", distance from "Central", owner and operator, etc., which are not parameters in the old infobox but come imbedded or are labels. Good luck. Please stop undoing my corrections. If you check reference 2 on page 395 you will see that Kohman & Goel give the age as ≤ 4700. If you check reference 3, The Planetary and Space Science Centre (Earth Impact Database), you will see this reference http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1977Metic..12..368S which is the age accepted by Earth Impact Database.

End of a retiring MP's term

Hi Bidgee. You'd better read this and its link.

Basically:

  • an MP who's not re-contesting, i.e. retiring: his term ends at the dissolution of parliament (5 August)
  • an MP who is recontesting but is defeated: his term ends on election day (7 September).

Technically, we won't know till 17 August (the day after close of nominations) who's recontesting and who's not, because people have been known to change their minds about retiring, but we can usually take previous public statements of retirement at face value.

Cheers. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 21:56, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

So sorry that I am so slow .

I am very sorry to be so slow to place some citations into the amendment to the entry on TC Yasi,

I am not familiar with how Wiki do stuff and to be honest it is rather confusing. I have not been to Uni and am not a techy kind of person so for me this is not that easy. When I did go back and try and find some references ( mainly because I was writing from First Person experience) I found that you had swooped and everything I had typed was gone.

Again, sorry to have tried to contribute to historical records and being too slow for Wiki.

Reason that unlike with other contributors I don't seek your consensus, is as evidenced by your previous history on this and your other pages, you only take the my way or the highway approach regardless of how indefinsible. So childish.Mo7838 (talk) 16:03, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Categories on subpage

Say, Mate, I see you've got some categories posted on User:Bidgee/test/Wagga Wagga railway station. So your page shows up on the Wagga Wagga category page. You ought to add colons to the templates like this: [[:Category:Regional railway stations in New South Wales]] & [[:Category:Wagga Wagga]] (I came across the page because I was looking at a WP:3O related to Wagga Wagga.) If you don't come back from your wikibreak soon, I might make the change for you. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 20:05, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
