For this article I would like to expand further upon the actual effects of ecology and the other aspects of conservation management on a global level. and investigate exactly how the science of ecology is applied in the real world and in turn affects us as a global community. Some examples as to how these fields are put into practice and their net resulting impact on the community at large. Also to explain how we can use applied ecology to our advantage; to solve relevant nationwide issues .Bider22 (talk) 17:31, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yamarie, I like how you have delved into this topic in a broad manner, as this article is broad. I do encourage you to focus on this broad perspective throughout your article addition, rather than discussing any of the more specific topics mentioned on the article page (e.g., restoration ecology). A second suggestion I would give you it to incorporate references into your article addition - be sure to back up what you say, and do so using key articles that focus on this topic. Last, I would encourage you to think in greater depth about how what you will add will fit into what is already there. What do you think most needs to be added to this article, and where do you think it should be added? In summary, I would encourage you to focus on quality rather than quantity as you revise your work here. Rhirshorn (talk) 17:22, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have made several grammatical suggestions noted with [*correction*] ([] with nothing in the brackets indicates deleted words) and have written a comprehensive feedback paragraph below the edited article. Great work!

"In addition to studying the various factors mention[ed] above[,] applied ecologists [focus on] the application of ecological knowledge [in addressing] environmental challenges. Applied ecologists [specifically study] how organisms and ecosystems are affected by [humans]. One [] main [] goal of applied ecology is to develop plans to counter the effects of human actions on our biosphere[]. Restoration ecology is an example of how applied ecology can be used to help restore or maintain a particular ecosystem. [This] branch of ecology [] explores [both] abiotic and biotic factors that affect an ecosystem, [including but not limited to] climate change, loss of biodiversity, nitrogen deposition, and invasive species[]. After taking all these factors into consideration[,] a decision is made on how [to best address] the problem.

The complicated part of this process is the general perception as to how environments will be restored. The common belief is that applied ecology is avenue to the past[-] a way to recreate environments that are no more. Unfortunately, there is no [] scientific evidence to support this belief. In fact[,] the effects of applied ecology[] can have either effect. There is no guarantee that any environment can or will be returned to its original state. The old saying "You cant step into the same ecosystem twice" is quite appropriate in this situation. Therefore[,] applied ecologists are calling for a more concrete[,] succinct concept [] to which applied ecology can help maintain a natural healthy environment. This will be the work of future applied ecologists[] to further defining this field as a science and [utilizing] method[s] for preserving our environment for years to come."

Critique: Overall, I think you did a good job introducing applied ecology, especially discussing the problems facing applied ecologists today. I would be interested in hearing a few more specific examples: what kind of projects do applied ecologists work on? Adding an example would really add to the reader's understanding of what applied ecology is. Additionally, I was slightly confused when you discussed how "the effects of applied ecology can have either effect." What are the effects you are referring to here? The "old saying" part seems informal and you don't explain why it applies to the current discussion. That aside, you did an excellent job of staying objective and sounding professional/formal and the tone is consistent with an official wikipedia aritcle. Of note, use of a semi-colon should separate two complete sentences which can stand on their own (must have a subject and clause on each side of the semi-colon). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcolgan01 (talkcontribs) 18:41, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
