[edit]I do not know exactly what article you are talking about, but the reason was probably that the text of the article was copied from another website. Such copying is an infringement of the original website's copyright, and is incompatible with Wikipedia's licensing. --RobthTalk 17:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi Rob, I copied my bio from my own website. I wrote the original copy. Berniedexter 06:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- I see, and I've found the article now. Unfortunately, the contents of that article are promotional, not encyclopedic, in tone, and it is thus not appropriate for Wikipedia. You might also want to take a look at our guideline on writing about yourself. We try very hard not to let Wikipedia be used as a vehicle for advertisement, so we are rather wary, in general, of articles written by the subject--neutrality is a key part of what we do here, and it is very difficult for people to write neutrally about themselves; this being the case, it would probably be a good idea to wait for someone else to write an article about you. --RobthTalk 06:42, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the insight, Rob. Is there a Wikipedia for Dummies? I sure could use it! I've never had so much trouble trying to grasp a concept. I understand your situation, but it's kind of difficult to write about yourself without it coming off as promotional... Maybe I'll take your advice and get someone else to author it. Thanks again, Rob. Berniedexter 17:09, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- It is difficult finding your way around the place at first. Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset is a good list of the basic standards and practices. In the case of an article about oneself, I would suggest that you just stand back and wait for someone uninvolved to create it. --RobthTalk 06:17, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disambiguation link notification for January 8
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited The Orbit Room, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jeff Martin (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
