Autograph
In Commons:Category:Ernesto Burzagli, I found a 1907 typewritten letter in English from IJN Vice-Admiral Ijuin Gorō thanking an officer of the Italian Royal Navy for courtesies extended to the IJN 2nd Fleet during a visit to Italy. I don't know how to describe the autograph signature I read at Image:Lettera ambasc.jpg?
What am I seeing? How do I describe it? As an autograph signature in cursive? As a signature in western script?
I seem to recall reading that Rangaku scholars in the 17th century occasionally signed their name in "Dutch" ..., but now that I think more about it, that phrasing is a little clumsy. I don't think it would be a good idea to explain that Ijuin signed his name in English? --Tenmei (talk) 03:05, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe I am not thinking about it enough, but I would just call it a signature. Does the script of the degree of being cursive really matter? Apologies if you were looking for more of a response. Bendono (talk) 12:17, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
