Speedy deletion nomination of User:Belfast Titanic Society/sandbox
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Belfast Titanic Society/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. — O Fortuna! - Yo, BTS. Your sandbox was deleted by administrator Premeditated Chaos. There is a --->click blue link---> thread started on their page for you to discuss it with them. You will, unfortunately, have to change your username, because yours currently breaches two of our guidelines: it promotes an organisation, and it implies shared use. Take care! — O Fortuna! Imperatrix mundi. 14:33, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
There have been two problems identified with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.
If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. SoWhy 19:35, 8 March 2017 (UTC)LittleFIREIreland (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I now fully understand that Wiki is not intended for use by any organisation to promote itself. I acknowledge I used an organisation name, in good faith, without fully understanding the policy. I accept fully the reason for the immediate username block as a consequence of a clear breach of policy and basic purpose for wiki. I have now read and understand the wiki Username policy and understand that the username I chose when setting up the account was in breach of policy giving impressing as a user I was possibly i. acting on behalf of an organisation ii. promoting that organisation or iii. implying my username was a shared username. I intend making useful history and heritage contributions. I can confirm no compensation was received for registering the original username. I am not a directly or indirectly paid editor. I will not be soliciting paid editing. I have read and will comply fully with the wiki Paid-contribution disclosure policy. I have checked existing usernames using the search facility
Accept reason:
Has adequately addressed issues that led to block. Happy editing and feel free to reach out if you have any questions :) Elli (talk | contribs) 23:37, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
What edits do you intend to make? Any particular reason you waited 7 and a half years before making this request? 331dot (talk) 12:29, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there - yes my circumstances have now changed and I’m now retired (as of two months ago) I research local history and wish to add to the body of knowledge in different areas of history relating to my research re edits and contributions to wiki. As an example I was trying to add two photographs this morning to the Arthur Hill wiki page as I noticed there is no photo of him (Carte de Vista photos I found on eBay) and that’s when I discovered I needed to reactivate my wiki user page. Hence my request to unblock and user name changed :-) many thanks ! Belfast Titanic Society (talk) 14:18, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Just some questions; You say that you will comply with the paid editing policy, but before that said you are not a paid editor- please clarify. Do you intend to edit about the Belfast Titanic Society further? Do you understand that posting your own research would fall under the conflict of interest policy? (and, if not published somewhere scholarly, original research) 331dot (talk) 15:29, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for coming back to me again - yes I have read the detail of the paid promotion policy and confirm I haven't been paid in any way and hadn't thought of it before now, and I am in compliance with the policy. I am aware of the detail of the policy and what it says about what to do if my circumstances should change ie the COI and declarations necessary - can I stress this is not likely to happen. My own research research is published elsewhere and I am aware it would be a conflict of interest and self promotion to use my own research for content or edits. As I carry out my research I come across many sources, scholarly articles and published papers for all sorts of things and when consulting wiki I, on occasion, see where I could possibly add a fact and a source. Belfast Titanic Society (talk) 21:25, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Just curious, can you clarify the meaning of your new username? Elli (talk | contribs) 22:49, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
