[edit] When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to Metal Slug 5, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube or Sci-Hub, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:
- If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
- If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
- If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;
If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. Waxworker (talk) 10:38, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Waxworker yeah no worries. Makes sense. I will keep it in mind. Beingretrogamer (talk) 11:02, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- I am collecting manuals though. There are jpegs available on archive.org so converting them to pdfs that can be shared easily. Hope that won't violate any policies. Beingretrogamer (talk) 20:28, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Sergecross73. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. - Hi @Sergecross73 I see you have reverted my edits but I am not sure how they are not relevant to those articles. I read through the articles and found missing pieces which should be there? Can you please clarify what am I doing wrong here? Those are just manuals that I am archiving. Beingretrogamer (talk) 05:55, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- There are already links to such PDFs on the page and I added what I though was missing, I wonder what is wrong with my links? Beingretrogamer (talk) 05:58, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Please see our WP:SPAM policy. One's primary function should not be adding the same website links over and over again. That's literally the only thing you've done since you've joined Wikipedia, so it looks more like you're just trying to promote a website, which is not the purpose of Wikipedia.
- If you wish to actually help write an encyclopedia, now's the time to start. If all you're going to do is spam links to a website, your account will be blocked from editing. Sergecross73 msg me 11:37, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback @Sergecross73 and I will keep this in mind but I feel like the documents that I attached were valuable and some one else will have to dig through the internet from scratch to get those back here. How can I still contribute those documents without making it look like spams because I have been collecting these manuals and often converting scanned images to pdfs. Please advice. - There's a lot of fansites and various video game themed wikis like Sega Retro or Nintendo Wiki Alliance (or something like that.) You could check and see if they allow for this sort of thing. Sergecross73 msg me 20:33, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
