Ethiopia Scout Association.svg and Ethiopia Scout Association 1977.svg     Done

Not critical, but when you get a chance, please correct the lions. On Commons as ok.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:58, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've done those by using the best trace I could get. At that small size you don't see the detail in the lion, and the green background doesn't help - so they're not brilliant - I can't think of a way that even redrawing that would help much at the moment. You can revert them if you think it's awful - maybe in the fullness of time I'll have a better idea about it.  Begoontalk 15:54, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not bad, I think they look better, and I trust in the fullness of time. I will still be here, if I have my way... :) Thank you!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:32, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Asia-Pacific Scout Region (World Organization of the Scout Movement).svg     Done

Really easy, and I mean it this time! For real. Maybe!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:34, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

 Done  Begoontalk 02:43, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, really nice! The sun rays are slightly wavy, I can't seem to find a good image, but it's like File:Bandera-bonaerense.svg or this... --Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:17, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't work out if they were a badly drawn regular shape - or a badly drawn wavy shape - I'll try the one in the Bandera svg - that should work.  Begoontalk 05:42, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're gonna kill me... any way you can give the waves some regularity or mirror symmetry?--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:36, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's all pretty subjective, since the png is neither wavy nor symmetrical - it's just crap... I have played around with them now. Unfortunately, I think there are only 2 suggestions left if you still don't like them:

  1. Find a decent original that shows exactly what they really look like and I'll match that
  2. http://www.inkscape.org/download - and edit the paths to be wherever you think they are pretty...

There would have been a third suggestion, but you know how people are about wikiquette and civility...

-)  Begoontalk 08:06, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

 Done - really...

It's beautiful, really, much better than I had hoped for! I have tried to figure out Inkscape and find I have the artistic skill of wet toilet paper. (I'm guessing that would actually be useful in the neighborhood of the unmentioned third suggestion?) ;) I'd love to find a copy of Photoshop here, but people here use other programs, and I can't order online from America, so I rely on the kindness of those who really are good at this. 御疲れ様です and thank you!
Yeah, the once-upon-a-time story really tugs at the heartstrings.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 11:02, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or, I could have Googled it for you, and found this really long link that, pasted raw, makes the page about 18 inches wider than the monitor... I am retarded.  Done - really. --Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 11:09, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok - I redid it, based on the pic at the really long link. Incidentally, Inkscape is ok for basic stuff, and it's free. It's a bit clumsy to use sometimes. Occasionally it will even open and process files that better software won't. I generally use Adobe Design CS5, in particular Illustrator CS5, which is the industry standard, and far more sophisticated, but I pay a monthly subscription to Adobe of $100+ for all my software including that, and Photoshop (Photoshop is good for bitmap formats, generally, Illustrator for vectors, although there is overlap in what they do)  Begoontalk 12:13, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Damn my untrained eye! Both last ones look great! (I can't tell, it must be subtle, actually...)--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:00, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing major - just a couple of "kinks" in the fourth and fifth "ray" from the right that I didn't get in my first trace because my daughter thinks daddy's graphics tablet is fun to play with, and fiddles with the sensitivity settings...  Begoontalk 02:05, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I envy you! Good man!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:27, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Īrān x 4 files     Done

Which is funny, because in the local Japanese dialect, "iran" means "I don't want it", strange because I do want it! ;)

--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:07, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Which is even funnier, because I missed the accents on one of them with a copy/paste - it's tagged for rename. Other than that, all  Done.  Begoontalk 08:03, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you thank you!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:25, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One more question, not a "do" or "don't do", what do you think about the black keylines on the red/gold Guide logo, since there are no keylines on the red lion Scout one? I just want your advice as a graphist. The cloth badges I have don't have them.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:36, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded a version with no keyline, and a version with fine, red keyline (which I think it needs for definition). You can revert to whichever you like.  Begoontalk 10:28, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The red is great, matches the badge, thank you!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 10:31, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Transkei Scout Association.svg     Done

"Johnny, what can you make of this?" [Hands him the weird emblem]

"This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch, or a pterodactyl!"--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 10:57, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, feeling silly, needed some levity. Wonder what corner it's coming from next...--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 11:14, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because the original was so godawful, I took a bit of artistic licence with this one - it's at File:Transkei Scout Association.svg. I haven't altered the article, because basically it's a complete redraw, so I'll let you do that if you want to use it. You'll need to do it before the fair use police delete it, though  Begoontalk 04:38, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm on it. It should be dark green border, not grey, though. Beautiful, by the way, really outstanding!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Found this gem Independent, Neutral, Turkmenistan State Anthem for you! ;)
I am a philistine, a troglodyte... I don't see the differences in the changes you make, it was great for me hours ago! What are you trying for at General Union?--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 17:16, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Did I ever tell you I was trained in printing way back when it was a proper trade and not something 10 year olds do on a laptop? Probably not. It was my living for 15 years. Fonts are important - especially when the whole logotype is basically 2 letters. Because the original is so fuzzy it's very hard to make out the real edges of the type as it blurs - so, particularly on the G sometimes a straight can be a curve, and vice versa. There are also relationships where the diagonal from the right edge of the G aligns with the slanted left stroke on the W. I had them wrong initially. If you're really bored - look at the G in 1000px in some of the variations I did - you'll maybe see the differences. The last couple of changes were just the outer circle diameter and a couple of pixels of green border, so it doesn't moire and get lost where the white runs out to the edge. I know it was ok - but I'm in idle mode, tweaking, and some things offend me. I'm done now, because there's no more detail in the original to emulate - so it'll have to stay as a best guess. I will guarantee this, though - the font I have hand drawn is wrong. Without a crisp original, I'll never know where, though...  Begoontalk 17:29, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I envy you, seriously-print shop class was one I wanted to take until my high school shut it down in 198*cough cough*, uh, back in the eig*hack hack*, back about twe*hiccup*years ago. I always admire the printing and color alignment and ink and paper of well-made books and materials. I have originals of Kipling and Tolstoy, and old atlases. No wonder you're such a craftsman.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 17:53, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, not an experience future generations will share in quite the same way. We used to take about 3 months to produce a good printed work for a customer, if it was a rush job. Concept, design, typesetting with proper metal type (or photographic paper type to cut and paste if you had the new-fangled gear) - then 5 or 6 rounds of proof reading (I can still mark up a proof with printers marks) (what's proofreading, dad?). Couple of weeks to choose the paper (a whole separate art), machine proofs, then a month to print, and 2 or 3 weeks to bind. Whole world of its own. Unfortunately, now, anything that takes longer than 2 weeks to produce isn't even on the radar. Ah, well. I can at least instil that love of print in the one next generation I have control of. She can be my message and beacon to the throwaway, need it now future.  Begoontalk 18:04, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the rantlet. Today's gonna be another of those damn days. Know anything about copyright?--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 11:43, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. About as much, or more likely less, than you, I'd guess. I've found User:VernoWhitney quite helpful in that area in the past.  Begoontalk 13:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Union of Burma Girl Guides Association 1957.svg     Done

Hiya! I know you're busy, when you get a chance, please create File:Union of Burma Girl Guides Association 1957.svg version of File:Union of Burma Girl Guides Association 1950.svg using the peacock from File:Flag of Burma 1943.svg. We're having those articles translated into Burmese!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 07:32, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's a blue link, now.  Begoontalk 08:15, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are amazing and fast, and I am thankful for you! Um, I should have specified, the way it is portrayed (all I had to start with was black and white) was torso-up, no legs. Sorry for not specifying.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:53, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The peacock is now legless...  Begoontalk 13:45, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! They're tastier and easier to catch that way!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:47, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Pfadfinderinnenschaft Sankt Georg.svg     Done

File:Pfadfinderinnenschaft Sankt Georg.svg please cut away blue background per WPMOS --Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:21, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well.... actually, per our previous discussion at User_talk:Begoon/Scout_Image_Archives#File:Scout_Association_of_Dominica.svg I still hold that there can be no such arbitrary requirement. What if the light blue is a part of the logo? What if the design is supposed to appear on white background (rather than some grey infoboxes? Totally disagree that an arbitrary requirement like that makes any sense. Again, let me know when you find it in the MOS, because I'd love to see the wording. Anyway,  Done, regardless, since I assume it is not integral to the design.  Begoontalk 05:55, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and sorry. I should say WP Scouting MOS, it is project policy to have emblems without backgrounds where possible.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:13, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yegorievsk regional Scout organization.svg     Done

Finally just got this identified today after years of identity searching. If you can, please create File:Yegorievsk regional Scout organization.svg, but don't change the redirects as they are all bad names. If you don't think it ready for vectorization, please clean up the middle shield with the freshly-provided examples. Thank you! Today's gonna be a good day!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 01:33, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I had any idea what the "collar" around the COA is supposed to look like I'd be home and hosed with that. Is that 2200?  Begoontalk 03:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is, but I can't make out the collar, and can't get to the badge, can it be left blank but gold? This is the best metallic gold I found. --Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:12, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is fantastic, thank you so much!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:12, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't believe I forgot to ask you to do these

It's not like I live here or something...

  1. File:Scout Association of Japan.svg-needs some work
  2. File:Girl Scouts of Japan.png

--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 03:30, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I need the text characters and a suitable font clue for [1] and [2].  Begoon•talk 00:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Text is そなえよつねに in the image description page, there are very few hiragana fonts, so your choices will be very similar.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Any better examples of the tree/mushroom cloud/candy floss/steam locomotive hanging from parachute motif, and the spears (I think...) would be most helpful.  Begoon•talk 00:42, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I will search. It's an acacia tree.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:16, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's a bit of a blow, actually - I was looking forward to doing The Flying Scotsman parachuting into the Normandy beaches under light infantry cover. Somehow an acacia tree won't be quite the same. Are you sure? It certainly looks like a parachuting loco on the cloth badge ...  Begoon•talk 05:35, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, I'm sure. All the images I could find on Google were ripped from Wiki. The only different one is http://www.worldbadger.com/image.asp?name=64868 .--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 12:01, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I won't mention that one looks like a nun skipping through a field waving a giant concertina over her head then, otherwise you'll make me do a full Rorschach test I expect. And what do badgers have to do with it, anyway? Better off building dams than having opinions on graphics, probably...  Begoon•talk 13:35, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"How do you know she's a witch?" "Well, she looks like one..."--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:10, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And wait, I thought The Flying Scotsman was the train or the guy from Chariots of Fire... ah, well, we Americans are doomed to be nekulturnyi. I did go to a Burns Night supper this year, that was much fun. Whisky is friendly!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:14, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just for giggles, make it a parachute anyway. I bet it stays for years! LOL--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When you get a chance, they finally went from greyscale to two-tone green. Hope your leg is better and all is well with you!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 17:34, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Except that http://www.sioz.ba/ isn't two-tone green, it's one light green (just happens to be on a dark green background - see http://www.sioz.ba/prva.html for how it looks on a different background - which, of course leads nicely onto the fact that it's a totally different fleur to the png, and should probably include the text and circle for completeness?  Begoon•talk 00:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:16, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I want to swap that one out for the time being, please do File:Savjet izviđačkih organizacija u Bosni i Hercegovini.png instead.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 11:39, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I made you say "Yikes" - I just like to keep this organised. I do these in between paying work tasks, and I find it much easier to be able to just quickly look at which one is outstanding, and work on it, than to waste that time looking through a list to decide which one to do next, and clicking on all the links in the list to assess each one. If it starts to look like too big a task it scares me, so I go back to work...  -  Begoon (talk) 22:46, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
