Welcome to Wikipedia
[edit]Aloha and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed your username after seeing an edit from a watch listed article. I thought I would drop you a friendly note to let you know that the username may be in violation of Wikipedia policy. Take a minute and review Wikipedia:Username policy, in particular: WP:CORPNAME. This will explain the policies in regards to usernames of the kind currently selected and how that can be altered to remain inline with Wikipedia standards. There is also a note there about editing in general for editors in this regard.
Basically, we ask that you not edit articles directly in which you may have a direct connection to. In this case Thirty Meter Telescope. However, that does not mean you cannot remain a registered editor and have input into the article. Wikipedia discourages paid advocacy. However, as an encyclopedia that everyone can edit, we also believe in the free flow of information, community, civility and collaboration. A good example (although certainly one that was in the spot light) was Arturo at BP. This gentleman followed Wikipedia's policies, guidelines and core pillars, but also, I believe, understood the spirit of Wikipedia. He used his sandbox to create drafts of his sources and content and used the article talk page to discuss how to improve the article (talk pages are not for discussing the subject in general) and pointed and linked to his drafts and let other, experienced editors actually enter the content that was agreed on by all involved contributors.
Please do not edit any further with this name or you can be blocked. An administrator with the proper tools can correct the name as long as you are willing to collaborate in the spirit and guidelines set out by the consensus of editors. An admin will certainly be making note of this by now, so someone can help your shortly (either by using the proper venue or, perhaps a friendly admin with the proper tools can help more immediately).--Mark Miller (talk) 09:42, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- Checking your contributions I see you have made four edits. These may be reverted. I believe it is a simple misunderstanding and happens often on Wikipedia. As long as you take positive steps from here you might not be blocked.--Mark Miller (talk) 09:46, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- OK, here is are pages to also review for changing the user name: WP:RENAME and WP:CHU/SIMPLE.--Mark Miller (talk) 09:58, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- Also, please review: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.--Mark Miller (talk) 11:48, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
