Multiple problems
[edit]Hi. I took care of that edit request at Bebo, since that "fact" has been there, unsupported, for a year, but I need to warn you about several potential problems. (I'm not an admin here; I'm just letting you know these things in a friendly way as a fellow editor.) First, there is a policy prohibiting user names that represent companies or groups. That both prevents someone from assuming an authority on the subject without proof and avoids discussions around the second problem, conflict of interest. COI exists when you have an non-academic outside interest in the subject of the article. While it is strongly discouraged, you can edit an article in which you hold a conflict of interest. You have to be very careful to avoid allowing the outside interest to affect your actions and only edit in the best interest of Wikipedia. In the case of this edit request, I think it is in Wikipedia's interest to remove that unsourced claim, but it is also clearly in the companies interest, so other reasonable people might choose to focus on the COI and not the request itself. Finally, Wikipedia is not concerned with truth, just verifiability. Original research is not allowed and all facts should be supported by reliable secondary sources not primary sources or direct observation. If a source had claimed that the site was used by spam-bots, you would have to have a better source (or many sources) that denounced that claim to be able to remove it. Anyway, I'd suggest you find another name and be cautious of editing articles about Bebo, but otherwise, welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here. Celestra (talk) 16:16, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
