File source problem with File:Tom Hanks as he appears in Apollo 13.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Tom Hanks as he appears in Apollo 13.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:Tom Hanks as he appears in Apollo 13.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Apollo 13 splashdown photo

[edit]

Please make note of the correct way to code a picture inside an article:

[[File:Apollo13.jpg|thumb|250px|The crew of Apollo 13 on board the [[USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2)|USS ''Iwo Jima'']] following splashdown]]

The "thumb" argument is necessary; omitting it makes the picture full-size, and messes up the page. There also needs to be a caption. If you wanted to change the photo (in this case I think the color picture is an improvement), you only need to change the filename, but leave the rest.

However, there happens to be two things wrong with your Apollo 13 crew after recovery.png picture:

  • It isn't cropped correctly; it's very small in the upper left hand corner, with white space around it;
  • The PNG format should only be used for drawings, or renderings such as insignia. Photographs, and paintings, should be in JPG format.

Please spend a few minutes reading WP:Image use policy. JustinTime55 (talk) 21:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Cosmic waves has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable… whatever this is. No sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The same applies to File:Apollo 13 crew after recovery.png and File:Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World with the lapbars.gif. Please include a direct URL in the "Source" parameter whenever you are creating a description page for a file - simple website names (e.g. "allears.net") are not sufficient. Second, are you sure that the latter image is in the public domain? The watermark reads "© Ashley Livingston". When a file is uploaded to Wikipedia, the sourcing and licensing information must be accurate. Thanks. SuperMarioMan 21:56, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It appears that you have added a link to an image on an external website to Fantasyland, likely in an attempt to display that image on the page. For technical and policy reasons, it is not possible to use images from external websites on Wikipedia. Why?

[edit]

You have uploaded several image files where a small image is pasted into the corner of a large area of white. Have you some reason for creating in this format? Slovenliness

[edit]

Your last three uploads have been flagged for deletion because of your slovenliness. Assuming you took these images from the web, it would have been perfectly easy for you to provide for each one links to the image itself and a page which uses it and contains an indication that the image is PD. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:13, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Steady, Beast is still learning the ropes here. And quite likely learning about copyright and graphics formats at the same time. Rich Farmbrough, 23:42, 27 October 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Rich, how long should I give him? Surely after twenty deleted uploads he can be considered to have been informed about copyright and formats. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:39, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, I understand this is frustrating for you, but as far as I can see no one has told Beast what "PD" stand for (public domain), let alone explained the way licensing works on Wikipedia (which can really only be done simply by missing bits out). Rich Farmbrough, 12:52, 28 October 2012 (UTC).[reply]

I question whether Rich understands PD if he can leave a {{PD-ineligible}} in place when it is patently inappropriate. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:47, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You do? I question whether you understand that these grumpy responses do not make for good interaction. I tracked down a couple of images, which, while you are perfectly correct should not be necessary, was almost trivial. I did not say that I had fixed the licensing tags - nor is there any requirement on me (or you) to do so. This is a volunteer project, which I remember you enjoying back when the historic London telephone exchanges were being documented, and you were doing all sorts of other fun stuff. Maybe you are still enjoying it but it rarely seems that way. Rich Farmbrough, 00:14, 29 October 2012 (UTC).[reply]

[edit]

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account, which contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BeasttoBeast, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and admit to it now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Unused crop of File:Apollo 8 Lovell at Guidance and Navigation station.jpg, no apparent reason to retain

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
