[edit]Please do not add advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.--Hu12 (talk) 04:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- By my reading, one item I clearly violated was to “Contribute cited text, not bare links.” Which is accurate, and absolutely my error. I should have been more deliberate about the process. So, if that is the central reason the edits were pulled down, I completely understand now that I reviewed the links in your note. There seem to be two approaches (at least one of which) I should have taken: Post it on the talk page and let another discuss the review, and/or contribute the the article in a manner that met guidelines and was relevant to the linked website. From everything I see on most geographic Wikis, linking to the official, government-funded, tourism board is widely accepted. So, my approach seems to be the problem. Let me know if I have missed, or misinterpreted something in my thought process.
- Thanks for the feedback. Since the link itself seems to be generally accepted on other Wikis, I’ll follow your advice and use the pages talk sections. Thanks! Bawordtrey (talk) 07:20, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. The Brunswick County Tourism Development Authority link is not the official website of any town in Brunswick County and appears to have been added in order to promote itself, ncbrunswick.com. Tourism links, publicly or privately funded adds very little in the the way of encyclopedic value to the encyclopedia, and should be avoided. Unfortunately, the approach used to add these links is considered Link spamming, and appears to have occurred similarly in the past;

- Understand that Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising, equally Wikipedia is not a place to to promote The Brunswick County Tourism Development Authority. thanks--Hu12 (talk) 15:16, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Got it. Certainly my fault all around. I should have read the policies more carefully. rather than using the other geo pages featuring the Tourism/Chamber of Commerce links as sacrosanct. I'm happy to default to the judgement of a veteran, and I understand now that the pages I referenced during my ineffective/hasty research are likely incorrect as well. To try to contribute to the betterment of the site, I'll post these conclusions on the talk section of some other pages that may be in violation to stimulate discussion, and I'll certainly stay away from any direct editing until I beter understand the decorum.
