Tracey Tawhiao article
[edit]Thanks for coming along to the meetup today. I've added some more identifiers to her wikidata item which now appear on the authority control bar in her article. I've also added categories as well as a sentence about her works in Te Papa along with a supporting citation. The fact she has artworks in the collection of New Zealand's National Museum gets her a long way towards notability for the purposes of Wikipedia. If you do similar articles it is worth making sure that this is emphasised in the first paragraph of the article. See for example Claudia Pond Eyley. Anyway, congratulations on your first article! - Ambrosia10 (talk) 01:24, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
Location for next Wellington Meetup
[edit]Kia ora, I'm letting all those that have attended during last few Wellington meet ups know that the location for the next two meet ups has changed. The location for the Wellington Meetup 17 August 2019 and Wellington Meetup 31 August 2019 is now in the Alexander Turnbull Library Reading Room, Level 1, National Library. The National Library net.work space area will be closed for building work from 12 August. See the meet up pages for more information. Looking forward to seeing you there. Dowse Editathon 16 November
[edit]Hi ya, just thought I'd let you know my email address (it's siobhan_leachman(at)yahoo.co.nz). I've had a look at the Friends of Dowse announcement and would recommend that the second sentence in the format of the event ie "You will then be given the opportunity to post content through this registered user or learn how to become registered yourself so you can edit on your own at a later date." to "You will then be given the opportunity to edit wikipedia yourselves, adding content and citing sources to improve articles on women in the arts." I think our main aim is to get the attendees to the point where they feel comfortable contributing to wikipedia. Asking them to create new articles is too high a bar for the first editathon as they will likely be creating their accounts that day and there is a requirement that your account must be at least 4 days (96 hours) old, and you have made more than 10 edits before you can create a new article. But there are numerous "stub" articles that can easily be expanded by them, and improving the quality of articles is as important as creating new ones. I think perhaps a mention that laptops should be brought as well? Or do you want to save that for the next announcement? Ambrosia10 (talk) 00:57, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
List of folk for the editathon
[edit]Thanks for the note on my talk page and great news about uploading that photo! Is there any chance you could email me the list of people they want to concentrate on at the editathon? I could then go through and double check whether they meet the Wikipedia notability criteria and at least make sure they are all in Wikidata to help ease the workload on the day. Just to let you know I'm going to be out of the country until the 5th of November but I'll be checking in with Wiki projects regularly or will be on twitter and email if you want to contact me. I won't be at the next Wellington meet up though! Thanks for keeping me informed about the editathon organisation. - Ambrosia10 (talk) 01:18, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
