Sienna Miller
[edit]Regarding Miller's citizenship, this issue has already been dealt with on the talk page some time ago and evidently, the wording I restored is what was agreed upon and what has stood for some time. If you're interested in changing the wording, you'll need to start a new conversation on the article talk page regarding this issue and get a new consensus. Further, presenting reliable sources to back up your assertion that Miller being born in the U.S. means she has dual citizenship is required as I can attest that being born in a different country does not automatically equal dual citizenship. Please do not add the content back until then. Thank you. Pinkadelica♣ 07:26, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Steve Smith
[edit]Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edit to Steve Smith (American Dad!), as we really appreciate your participation. However, the edit had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept unsourced material or original research. This includes material lacking cited sources, or obtained through personal knowledge or unpublished syntheses of previously published material. Wikipedia requires that all material added to articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable sources explicitly cited in the text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. If you have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 01:43, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Eminem performs on Saturday-1.jpeg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Eminem performs on Saturday-1.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. XXX antiuser eh? 03:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
Photo
[edit]Hi! I think you're right that a more recent photo would be good, but unfortunately we can't use non-free images of living people, as that would conflict with the Non-Free Content policy. So I'm afraid I've had to remove it. What we would need is a recent picture released under a Creative Commons license that permits commercial reuse, or a public domain photograph. - Bilby (talk) 03:17, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- As a general rule, we can only use photos that are released under a free license, such as Creative Commons or public domain. Unlike the media, Wikipedia can't generally use images as "fair use", because the license which Wikipedia releases the content under would create a conflict. The exception is where an image is both necessary and where there is no possibility of a free use image being available. Unfortunately for cases like Eminem, where the subject is alive, (or the object still exists, for other sorts of images), it is generally assumed that it would be possible to get a free use image if someone was to manage to be in the correct location. (For example, attending a concert). The policy is the Non-Free Content policy - it is restrictive, but it seems like a good way forward, given that it is the best means of working within Wikipedia's license.
- To find photos I use Flickr a lot - it lets you use the advanced search function to look for images that are Creative Commons and permit commercial use. You need to be careful, though - some people upload copyrighted images and falsely claim them to be creative commons or public domain, so I find that a healthy dose of scepticism can help. :) I've also found that you can sometimes approach photographers and ask if they would be willing to release an image under a CC by SA license - I've had some luck there. I'll keep an eye out for a photo and see if I can find one, as I agree that a more recent photo would help. :) - Bilby (talk) 16:06, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Radioactive-Yela.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Radioactive-Yela.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

More information needed about File:Obie-trice-bottoms-up.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Obie-trice-bottoms-up.jpeg. However, it needs some more work before it is okay to use on Wikipedia.
Please click here and do the following:
- Add a description of where the image comes from (not what it is) and who the creator is. Please be specific, and include a link if you can.
- Find the appropriate license from the list of free, non-free media, or public domain options. Copy the license template and paste it in the file's page, and save.
If you follow these steps, your image can help enhance Wikipedia. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the media copyright questions page.
Thank you for your contribution! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Re: References
[edit]Hello Banan14kab, and thank you for your message. This article only came to my attention because it was reporting a cite-error generated by your edit. My options were to either fix the error, or revert your edit. Per WP:ELNO, I chose to revert rather than help support an edit that I didn't believe in. Had I done nothing at all, your edit would probably have been reverted anyway, through automation by XLinkBot. You're absolutely right in saying there's a lot of Youtube links on other articles, but that's WP:OTHERSTUFF, and there's a very strong possibility that most of those links will eventually be removed as well... one by one, as they are found. I hope this helps answer your questions. Have yourself a great day, and happy editing! :) -- WikHead (talk) 22:48, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Triton Regional High School (New Jersey)
[edit]Please discuss such moves before making them, as you did with Triton Regional High School (New Jersey). Now that the article has been moved, your next task is to take care of changing all links to Triton Regional High School to address the redirect to the correct article before Triton Regional High School is changed to a disambiguation. Please feel free to contact me on my talk page with any questions. Alansohn (talk) 18:17, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Image sizes
[edit]200px or 100px will usually do fine. There is no reason to waste time or edits trying to get the size "perfect", as the images will display differently and fit the screen differently depending on a wide range of factors such as browser, text formatting and all sorts of other specifications. As a general rule, if you're not making the article better by improving content it's not worth making the edit. Alansohn (talk) 22:49, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

- This is an exception to the larger-is-better rule. Nonfree images are better at low resolution, so when we have two nonfree images that are identical except for resolution, the larger one should be deleted, rather than the smaller. Nyttend (talk) 05:15, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- "Pixellation" — do you mean "grainier" or "lower resolution"? Smaller images are better simply because they have fewer pixels; Wikipedia's interpretation of the fair use provision in US federal copyright law says that we should have smaller images when we claim fair use because that way we use less nonfree material. Edit-warring warning
[edit]Please read the warning I posted for you and the other editor on their talk page.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:29, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- The other editor removed the warning from their talk page, so I'm including it here as the link just above won't help you much:
- Warning. I have two choices regarding the report at WP:ANEW. I can either block both of you or warn both of you. I'm hoping a warning will suffice. You have both violated WP:3RR. So, you both now have to achieve a consensus on the article talk page as to what should or shouldn't be in the article. If either of you touches the article again, you may be blocked without notice. I don't care what the current version is. It stays that way for the time being. If you can't reach a consensus, then there are dispute resolution mechanisms available to you.
I did not violate 3r while this editor reverted three different and me multiple times in a 24 hour period after I warned him so I do not understand your logic. STATic message me! 01:27, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- Can you please check your spelling and grammar? I am really having a hard time understanding your sentences. Anyway I agree with Bbb23. You are just as guilty as I am so don't try and weasel out of it. You also reverted edits on occasion. I saw it on the history log for the article. I don't care if it's just 3r or whatever you are referring to. You also reverted edits. Just because you feel your edits are perfect doesn't mean they are. If someone changes my edits I don't warn them repeatedly and try yo make it one-sdided. Have an open mind and try to take constructive criticism. You really aren't helping yourself out by trying to pin everything on me. Anyway the current version is the one I prefer so I'm cool with not touching it anymore. I hope this will make things more sensible.Banan14kab (talk) 03:26, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

given name and surnames articles
[edit]Please don't move "Patrick (given name)" to "Patrick (name)". Name can refer to either the surname or the given name. That's why these articles are clearly titled "Patrick (given name)" and "Patrick (surname)". See Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Standards.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 09:22, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Many editors aren't aware of the Wikiproject that actually cover these kinds of articles, and a lot of articles need to be cleaned up and worked on. There's a lot of work to be done. The point is, changing given name back to name isn't an improvement, it's a step backward. Some given names are rather uncommon and are actually derived from surnames in modern times. Usually there's hardly anything of consequence written about these kinds of names, so it makes sense to combine these kinds of names into articles. But other given names and surnames, like Patrick for example, are quite common. Since more has been written about these kinds of names it's possible to construct pretty good articles for them. A long time ago I made one for Randall. So it's a case-by-case basis. Anyways, I think Patrick is the kind of name that we can surely create a good article about, without having to combine it with the surname.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 07:23, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

[edit]To pick this edit as an example, you have changed some parameters in many school articles to remove a link to high school under type and changed the grades from 9-12 to 9-12. I do believe that most readers of these articles are familiar with how schools work, but why remove the link to high school, which in a variant form is included in the sample infobox school documentation, or to make it more specific why not link to secondary education in the United States instead of the more generic high school? Is there anything gained by linking the grades for 9-12, as most people are probably aware of how school works, grades 10 and 11 are excluded and anyone needing details can access the information through any of the high school articles? Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Player positions
[edit]I saw your change to Derek Fisher to list him as just a guard instead of PG/SG. Can you discuss this at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association#Generic_guards_and_forwards? It actually changes back and forth a lot, so I figured we should get a project guideline on this topic. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 02:49, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- There is no new consensus to consolidate (for example) "shooting guard / point guard" to "Guard." If you want to argue your preference further in hopes of reaching that consensus then by all means do that at the open discussion. But right now it feels like you are misinterpreting that discussion. Re: Article Protection
[edit]@Bagumba: Well LeBron James, Allen Iverson, Robert Horry, Derek Fisher, Kirk Hinrich (all articles I edited on May 16 before writing a message here) all had the protection notice when I clicked edit on their pages, but it's not of any consequence now since the protection seems to have expired...also like you said the protection does not prevent me from editing. I was unaware of that at first so I apologize for anything I may have implied.Banan14kab (talk) 22:52, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

NBA All-Rookie selection
[edit]I read it on the Wikipedia:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Style advice page. It explains that when a player has a large list of highlights, NBA All-Rookie team can be omitted if also won Rookie of the Year. So at the end of the day it is optional, so I dont mind if it gets undone, generally I'm in favor of listing as many highlights as deemed appropriate.

Hamilton / Steinert / Nottingham High School names
[edit]You've raised the concerns that the directional names are unofficial or informal and I've demonstrated that that's not the case. I've tired to make the articles consistent, as you've stated as an issue. This edit for Steinert is just a blind revert without any explanation or justification.
Let me better understand why you think we shouldn't include the directional names ("Hamilton High School East / North / West") as the full alternate formal names of the three high schools.
I hope that we can find a mutually agreeable resolution that will allow the reader to be appropriately informed. Alansohn (talk) 04:26, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:BT High School.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:BT High School.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Passengerpigeon (talk) 04:22, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:NHPC D9 Logo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:NHPC D9 Logo.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}}
(to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 01:01, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Fraternity Emphasis
[edit]As long as the type is set correctly, I tend to be a lot looser on emphasis. Type actually has some legal meaning, since Alpha Phi Alpha claims the Title IX exemption without having to apply for a specific waiver (the way that Sigma Alpha Iota did). I think we did have an NPHC group as one of the examples in the discussion, but I'm not sure we discussed specifically why emphasis "should" be there.Naraht (talk) 20:58, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

August 2023
[edit]You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Philadelphia 76ers. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. – sbaio 14:45, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- When was it confirmed by a consensus that the article should say the Sixers are based "in the Philadelphia metropolitan area"? This seems to have been brought up and talked about, but no actual consensus from what I could find. Banan14kab (talk) @Sbaio: 19:40, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Philadelphia 76ers. Same warning applies to edits of New York City-based teams. You should stop your disruption of lead paragraphs, because you have been doing this for years. –
- My reply was never answered on my talk page. Also why am I being labeled as a “disruptive editor” when all my edits are in good faith (and logically make sense). I see the only page that wasn’t labeled as disruptive was the change of the opening of New York Rangers, which I myself edited to be consistent with the other NYC teams awhile ago. Banan14kab (talk) 19:46, 4 August 2023 (UTC) @Sbaio:
- This warning is not about good faith (I am sure that your edits are well-intended), but this is not the first time through the years that you are running around and changing lead sentences (or even paragraphs) to your preferred version. You have not once tried to initiate a discussion until the situation at Philadelphia 76ers. – sbaio 07:13, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
