User talk:BTM2009
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, BTM2009, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! JarrahTree 11:58, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

how do I add a website on to the page I am editing BTM2009 (talk) 12:17, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Please give me info on the trams BTM2009 (talk) 12:18, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- You'll need to be more specific about what it is that you want to do. If you just want to add an external link to a website, please read policy in that area. As you state you are an employee of the Tramway, you will need to review and comply with the conflict of interest and paid editing policies. 331dot (talk) 12:19, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Also please understand that personal knowledge is not sufficient to source article content; Wikipedia summarizes what published independent reliable sources state. 331dot (talk) 12:21, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Edit conflicts endless... was trying to add: ::You dont add website's as such - you can add external links as WP:MOS requires - at the end of the article :: this is an online encyclopedia - WP:V requires WP:RS - otherwise additions are WP:OR - specially if you are in a WP:COI situation - please do not add material you know - if you cannot utilise a newslatter/newspaper item that clarifies what you are asserting... Dear JarrahTree Unfortunately you have got it wrong again All of my Knowledge is actually true if you don’t believe me then Check our website at www.btm.org.au BTM2009 (talk) 12:31, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
331dot Please review what you have said as my knowledge is actually true please visit www.btm.org.au if you don’t believe me BTM2009 (talk) 12:33, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- I did not say that your knowledge was anything other than true. That doesn't matter. Anyone can post anything claiming it is personal knowledge- we can't just take your word for something regardless of its truthfulness. In addition, this is impossible to independently verify. Verifiability is an important principle of Wikipedia. All Wikipedia content must be sourced to an independent reliable source that is available to the public to verify and has editorial control with a reputation of fact checking. 331dot (talk) 12:41, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
How do I add citations BTM2009 (talk) 12:43, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
The only thing that I have added is the speech we have to give our patrons to give them information this speech however isn’t on the internet will it need a citation? BTM2009 (talk) 12:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Sources do not need to be on the internet, they only need to be available to the public(and it doesn't have to be easy or free to access them). However, a speech transcript in private hands would not be acceptable as a source, because it is a primary source. Wikipedia is not interested in what the company tells its patrons. You are free to post that elsewhere- such as on your company website- but you can't do it here. As I stated, you will need to comply with the conflict of interest and paid editing policies relatively soon. 331dot (talk) 12:51, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Sorry I didn’t realise that the speech is also Available on the site If you would like to check my source BTM2009 (talk) 12:54, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Where the speech transcript is doesn't matter. It is a primary source and not acceptable as a source. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state, not what article subjects say about themselves. 331dot (talk) 12:55, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Would you like me to take it down BTM2009 (talk) 13:00, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- I have removed the edits, as they are not in keeping with Wikipedia guidelines. Photo credits are not given in such a manner here, and the passage you added encouraged visitors to visit the Tramway Museum's website.
- I would also strongly advise you to not give your specific age anywhere here, for your own protection and safety. Please read WP:YOUNG for more information, it also has helpful information about how you can contribute. It would be a good idea if you had a parent or guardian look over it with you. You may also want to use the Wikipedia Adventure, a new user tutorial. 331dot (talk) 13:12, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
If I add content that is within the guidelines can that be kept up BTM2009 (talk) 13:14, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Ok thanks for letting me know BTM2009 (talk) 13:16, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- I would suggest that you first do what I ask above. If you want to edit about the museum or tramway just because you like it and were a conductor. that should be okay, but I think you need to learn more about how Wikipedia works first. There is nothing bad about that- many adults have the same difficulty. 331dot (talk) 13:19, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Dear JarrahTree I would like to request to be an admin what do I have to do Tramfan1203 (talk) 13:27, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Are you BTM2009? Are you going to use Tramfan1203 from now on? In order to be given administrator powers by the community, you need to show that you understand Wikipedia guidelines, have good judgement, demonstrate a need for administrator powers, and have contributed to this project in a significant way. Generally this means an edit history of years with several thousand edits. Keep in mind that you can do 95% of things here without being an administrator, and that being an administrator conveys no special status. It's just having some extra buttons that would be irresponsible for everyone to have. 331dot (talk) 13:30, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
No I am not BTM2009 I am a new user Tramfan1203 (talk) 13:35, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- So is that why your first edit was to the user talk page of this user to address another user who commented here? That's a very unlikely set of circumstances. It's much better if you are honest with others here. 331dot (talk) 13:36, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
I am completely honest I am commenting on my friends talk Tramfan1203 (talk) 13:40, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
I understand that he can be crazy and go over the top but of course we are both new here we joined together Tramfan1203 (talk) 13:41, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
- Then I would offer you the same advice I offered your friend above. 331dot (talk) 13:44, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
warning
[edit]Please read the links given - very carefully - as you will find your editing reverted because you are not adding reliable sources - and worst case scenario you will get blocked for ignoring the basic principals of wikipedia WP:V and WP:RS. JarrahTree 12:38, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
