Hi Jim, promotional? I see most of your edits are for Buddhism. Can I say you are promoting Buddhism?
I did not add anything that is of my opinion. I only quoted a source as it is. Az.explore (talk) 14:13, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm JimRenge. An edit that you recently made to Last Judgment seemed to be a test and has been reverted. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. Hi Jim,
Kindly explain what you mean by secondary source? For instance if there is a reference in Quran about a topic, should I also include a secondary source?
Az Az.explore (talk) 10:58, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Gautama Buddha in world religions, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Please stop adding poorly sourced (https://www.newmessage.org is not an independent, secondary reliable source) content that appears to be WP:UNDUE and promotional. Hi Jim,
Kindly explain what you mean by secondary source? For instance if there is a reference in Quran about a topic, should I also include a secondary source?
What would be an example?
I have quoted straight away from the primary source. What more is to be done?
Az Az.explore (talk) 11:00, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:PRIMARYSOURCE. Editors are not allowed to analyze primary religious texts, such as the bible, the Quran etc; we leave this to the experts/scholars of religion, publishing in peer reviewed academic journals and academic books. Uncritical uses of texts from within a religion or faith system without referring to secondary sources that critically analyze them is not appropriate. Please see WP:RS, WP:NPOV, WP:UNDUE and WP:NOTADVOCACY for more info. If you have additional questions about editing wikipedia please consider visiting the WP:TEAHOUSE. Thanks JimRenge (talk) 11:34, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your response.
The additions in my edits are not critical. It was in reference to a primary source which was cited. It was not a minority view as well, because the page itself is about showing different viewpoints - view of other religions on Bhuddha etc. It is not a self promotion as well.
For instance, if a minority of Islam believes about Muhammad, that is contradictory to what majority of Islam believes - then i understand the point. The addition I added was nothing like that. It was not a sect of Buddhism that's having a paculiar idea about Buddha. It is a about a growing religious movement having a viewpoint of Buddha - quoted directly from the primary source. I hope you understand the difference, and please let me know if there is something to be corrected.
Az Az.explore (talk) 12:03, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you do not understand the texts and explanations I have given (please see also WP:IDNHT). The WP:TEAHOUSE is a place where you might ask friendly and uninvolved editors if your edits are violations of wikipedia policies and guidelines. The welcome message mentions additional options for help/support. Peace be with you. JimRenge (talk) 21:22, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so if you were to add this additional info - viewpoint on Buddhism from a minority religion, how would you add it in this page? Az.explore (talk) 17:27, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Az.explore! Your additions to Gautama Buddha in world religions have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. SamX [talk · contribs] 17:18, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SamX, this is very helpful. I had added a " " though when quoting from the original text and given a citation to the original text which is freely available in the public domain. Is it because what I quoted was too long? - is there a word limit? Az.explore (talk) 17:51, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Your edit included some very long passages from this copyrighted website that were not quoted. Even when using quotes, it's best practice to be very conservative and quote as little material as possible to convey the meaning of the quote—text isn't exempt from the copyright policy just because it's between <blockquote> tags. As far as I know there's no hard and fast rule like a word limit, but you should summarize the text instead if you have even the slightest concern that the material might violate copyright.
