Avi; do what u think is right. i dont know what wikipedia prefers. it would seem to me that the power of wikipedia is wikilinks. it provides a 3rd dimension to the written word. people dont know everything; it is helpful to click on a link for greater insight. as a case in point, i didnt know what a "columbāria' was. so i had to go to the dictionary. furthermore, a lot of words get passed over because they are common words, like "mutual assurance", but the key issue is what does wikipedia want? you are a lot more experienced than i am. so do what is right. joe 16:57, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

The best rule of thumb is to follow wiki's own rules, which we all learn as we go along, and all are subject to change based on consensus :). The one in question is WP:CONTEXT. The first entry of most terms that add context to the article like "insurance" or "reinsurance" should be wikilinked. "Money", "family", or "band", in my opinion, shouldn't be linked, as they do not add to the context of the article (and would likely not be footnoted in a paper version). I'm very thankful that you are adding your prodigious work to the article; remember no one owns an article, although certain editors may "adopt" an article and maintain it. If you feel something is important, let's discuss it on our or the articles talk pages, and make this article the very best it could be! -- Avi 17:26, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

My dear Avi

My dear Avi, your message and your email are too special to me to be answered in a rush. Simply know that you touched me deeply as well, so much that I wish to reply more calmly to you tomorrow - I am extremely tired right now, and you deserve so much better than that. Here's an immense hug to you, and I swear I'll get back to you in a few hours. Kisses, Phædriel tell me - 00:21, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Wasn't sure to whom I should bring this

...but, and I'm sure this is far from the first and last instance[oh, the bigotry that tags along with free speech sometimes], the article on Ari Fleischer has been a recent target of somewhat blatant anti-semitic remarks; as I saw your page and it said you were a member of the judaism wikiproject as well as an rc patroller, I thought perhaps you would be receptive to either watching it or taking some action to protect this page, as I'm not an accounted wikipedian and am somewhat unaware of what to do in these situations. Here's the diff: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ari_Fleischer&diff=61079846&oldid=61079650.

The way I figure it, regardless of whatever one's political beliefs or views of the man, the fact that he's jewish should not, in any way, be held against him; moreover, the wikipedia article shows up as the fourth item on google for Ari Fleischer, and with all the nonsense in the media about wikipedia we don't need anti-semitism added to the list, I believe. 24.13.8.214 02:36, 29 June 2006 (UTC) russ.

Avi need help

i wrote an article on W. H. Grattan Flood; one of the hundreds of irish papers i want to write.

i found a note or warning on the top of the Flood page saying a complaint about "adulatory comments" was lodged and that an artibtrator or editor would be assinged to the case.

i responded on the Flood page. but who do i send it too.

could you look at it and tell me what to do. joe 02:50, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Grammer Question

Hi Avraham,

I also consider myself a stickler for grammer and I am wondering if you can help me out with a silly question. In a list, does a comma come before and? For example xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx, and xxx or does it go xxx, xxx, xxx and?

Thanks,

Guy Montag 04:05, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Guy. Actually, both are valid constructions. It is called a "serial comma". I have the CMOS at work, not home, so I cannot give you the specific chapter, but the Chicago Manual of style DOES recommed putting the serial comma in. See here: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/cmosfaq.Commas.html (especially the one about Mother Theresa and the pope) :-) Hope that helps. -- Avi 04:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Gratton Flood

1. i have properly sourced the article. (i hope and pray) 2. i have a few other sources and i am trying to track the original articles. 3. the structure of the current article doesnt look like anything else in the universe, as best i can tell 4. but facts are facts.. 5. i have a lot more material on Flood since i have read his books - and my observations as an irish musician will be original. when i get time i will begin entering it the article. 6. i also have original pictures that i have taken. my picture of the memorial in enniscorthy is not good enough for my standards. 7. i will probably have to fly over to wexford and take better pictures. also i need to find where his correspndence is being archived. because i want to comment on some of it. 8. i also have one of his old old books, with his picture on it. I have to find out if i can use that picture. bt of course i can get others without copyright infringements. 9. the long and short of all this is that grattan was a world class genius and his contributions were enormous. but, according to his son, he was a shy person, not seeking glory. 10.i have tried to make the article neutral, although other folks praise him effusively joe 03:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations! I am informing you that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. Take this time to read relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks such as deletion, blocking, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other admins, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find this guide helpful. Welcome! When you delete, don't forget to unlink any wikilinks that are pointing to that article, unless deletion is w/o prejudice to recreation, e.g. for sins like copyvios etc. Example: [1]. Cheers. - CrazyRussian talk/email 07:07, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Matthew Cooke Manuscript

I don't know anything about the subject, so no, I don't have anything to add. It just looked short to me, and I was trying to get together enough stubs to justify the creation of a Freemasonry stub tag. If you don't think it's a stub then I'll gladly remove it. OzLawyer 13:38, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

A request

Hello, Stifle.

I have been having issues with User:Nokilli's deletion of warnings from his talk page. This user seems to have a very specific anti-circumcision bias, which compels him to constantly remove sourced information, written in a neutral tone, with borderline child pornagraphy styled prose. I will be spending some time over the next few days putting together the diffs in case needs escalation, but, as a neutral administrator, I am requesting if you could please take a look at his editing of his talk page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ANokilli&diff=62074097&oldid=62061788
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ANokilli&diff=62131619&oldid=62116114 (including comment)
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ANokilli&diff=62143116&oldid=62138391 (including obvious personal attack in last line)

And let me know what can be done. I am loathe to take further action, as I want to prevent any appearances of personal bias. This user has violated WP:NPA, WP:CIVIL, WP:POV, and WP:3RR on numerous occasions. Thank you -- Avi 12:30, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I have left him a further severe warning on his talk page. I recommend using WP:ANI to report these issues in general as you may get a quicker response. Stifle (talk) 14:25, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Hello Avi, I have left my thoughts on his talk page. His conduct through the use of talk-page and edit-summary commentary is highly inflammatory. I'm rather flattered to have been asked for an opinion. By the way, Crzrussian has nominated this for deletion and I noticed you haven't dropped past yet. I've managed to swing it to his side a bit with a lot of rebuttal, but could do with some help. Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 01:10, 6 July 2006 (UTC).

The IAFI has its main office: IAFI, 500 Fifth Ave, 45th floor, NY, NY 10110. Donations are to be sent to the NY offices in US dollars. The group is 90% professors at American institutions, the rest being from Israeli institutions according to browsing its main brochure. See: [2]. I think if you add the information to the article, SlimVirgin will accept it. The issue is most likely with me personally. Even Jayjg's re-additions of the material I was putting in was accepted -- it was just when it came from me that it was blindly reverted without question. --Ben Houston 21:53, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I have no doubt they have international operations and I see no major similarly in agenda to AIPAC or the others. Although the ADL probably has some overlap with regards to fighting anti-Semitism. My insertion of the term American was always immediately adjacent to the term non-profit and I did not try to emphasize that they only operated in the US. I notice that the ADL handles this by saying that the ADL was founded in the United States and has many offices in the US and in three other countries. This was a minor point though and it was only because it was blindly reverted along with my inclusion of informaton on the founder and removal of OR linkage to New Anti-Semitism that is has been brought up here. It was never meant to be contentious. --Ben Houston 22:44, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

AeroPress article

You deleted the [{AeroPress]] article for being nonsense, which it appeared to be. I sometimes scan the [:Category:Candidiates for speedy deletion]] listings to see if there is anything that I can salvage. It turns out that the original author's claim "This is an awesome machine for making coffee" may be true. AeroPress (in this context) is a new type of coffee maker from Aerobie, Inc. of Palo Alto, California. See http://aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm

Is this technology notable enough to warrant an article in Wikipedia? I'm not sure, but you might want to undelete the AeroPress article and turn it into a stub (or a full article) about the coffee maker if you think it would be worthwhile. Another AeroPress, http://www.aeropress.com/ , is a web design and hosting company that is probably not notable by Wikipedia standards. Regards, TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 06:47, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

The author, or yourself, is more than welcome to recreate the article, add something more somewhat more substantial than "cool coffee machine," and run with that. I won't delete it reflexively again, but as it stood, it was not even stubworthy. The links I checked that came out of the Aerobie article about Alan Adler made no referene to the AeroPress, which also added to my decision. I don't think an undeletion is called for, but recreation with valid content is certainly an option. Hope that helps. -- Avi 12:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Grattan Flood.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Grattan Flood.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Please bring my article back from the dead

Hello, my name is Jared Eimicke and I have recently created an account on your website using the name Knickf2j. I created an article called "Jizzfest" on July 8th. A "random updater" on the same day went on the talk section of my page and cited it as "patent nonsense" and suggested it should be deleted. Shortly afterwards, it was, by you.

Jizzfests are parties that I actually do host, and have become famous amongst many in my tiny hometown of Metuchen, NJ. Many people are constantly asking me about them, and I figured it would be fun and informative to create an article on Wikipedia, so everyone could look at it. The random updater also seemed to think my article was some kind of self-promotion. I suppose I could see how one could interpret it that way, however that was definitely not my intention, and if the page was put back on, then I wouldn't hesitate to edit the article in order to limit self-promotion if necessary. I spent a lot of my time creating the article, and it would mean a lot to me if you could find it in your hearts to allow the article on your site. Many people in my town would be grateful. So in summary, please let me, user Knickf2j, continue to update and oversee the creation of the recently deleted on July 8th article "Jizzfest." Thanks a lot for your time. If you need to you can contact me at jeimicke@syr.edu

Knickf2j 07:23, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Jared Eimicke/Knickf2jKnickf2j 07:23, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Please read WP:NOT and WP:N, as well as WP:WING. This has nothing to do with "finding it in our herts" or being cruel. There are certain mimiumum standards for article quality and notability. If you want to memorialize your parties, by all means do it on Myspace.com or rent some bandwidth somewhere. Wkikpedia is NOT Myspace, Wikipdia is NOT Google, wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free webhost, and that is why your entry is not suitable. Nothing personal, but there are standards. You can, if you wish, place the article on your user page. Let me see what I can do about that. Thank you. -- Avi 13:54, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I've done the following for you. I created a subpage of your user page called User:Knickf2j/Jizzfest. As this is in user space, and not the encyclopedia space, there are fewer restrictions. Please read the links I posted above so that you can get a better understanding of what we are trying to do here in Wikipedia. Of course, posting about illegal drug use where a few hundred million people can see it is not the brightest idea in the world, but hey, it's userspace now. Thank you. -- Avi 14:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

apartheid wall

1) What does the RFA have to do with including apartheid wall in the disambig page?

2) I can AGF but that doesn't change the fact that no credible reason has been given for removing the link. Homey 15:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Isn't the entire subject of apartheid as it relates to non-SOuth-African countries under a RfAR? Also, doesn't the fact that Allegations of Israeli apartheid is listed on the page, and Apartheid Wall is mentioned prominently in that article, make adding it to the disamb redundant? It's already there as a part of Allegations of Israeli apartheid? -- Avi 16:44, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

No. Just the Israeli apartheid article and not in relation to its content. The disambig article and/or apartheid wall is not subject to the RFA. Homey 18:11, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

But that does not change the fact that adding the wall specifically is redundant, or why does it in your opinion? -- Avi 18:39, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

How is it redundant if it points to an article that isn't already listed? Homey 19:17, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

As I said Allegations of Israeli apartheid is listed and the apartheid wall is both mentioned prominently in that article, as well as being an example of Allegations of Israeli apartheid. Is the idea to list every example of every allegation of every type of action referred to as apartheid on that page? What about civil unions and same-sex marriage laws? The reductio ad absurdum can go on. Why do you feel there is something special and unique about the wall? -- Avi 19:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I suggest you take it up with Natalya in Talk:Apartheid (disambiguation). She is far more familiar with how disambig pages work with either of us. Homey 19:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

And there actually is no section in Allegations of Israeli apartheid on the separation barrier as apartheid wall. That section is here in the Israeli West Bank barrier article.19:35, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

As for AGF, I am trying, but it is frustrating that as soon as one of your claims (ie RFA) for why the article shouldn't be listed is dealt with you come up with another, and another, and another. Homey 19:37, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Homey, I respectfully request you read my initial paragraph completely. Both statements are there. I brought up two points,of which you only reponded to one. I will WP:AGF and presume that you were so positive about the RfAr, that you stopped reading and responded immediately. Please go back and read it again, for I would not want you to feel that you werenot being treated respectfully. -- Avi 19:41, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Your right, you did mention it, I just didn't see it.

In any case the mention of the wall is thirteen paragraphs into the article and is not accorded its own section. This doesn't strike me as especially prominent and the mention does not go into as much detail as the section on "apartheid wall" that the disambig page points to.Homey 19:45, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

My point remains in that are we to list every example of everything that is apartheid? There is nothing more special about the wall being an example of allegations of Israeli apartheid than the recent court decisions upholding the marriage laws in NY to be allegations of sexual apartheid. Apartheid as it relates to Israeli activity is listed in the disamb page. Anyone specifically interested in the wall will easily find it, wikilinked as well, in the Israeli article. I still feel that there is no need to specify ACTIONS on the disambiguation page. The purpose of the page is to make sure that someone entering "apartheid" gets to the article that they had in mind. Having Allegations of Israeli apartheid more than serves that purpose, I believe -- Avi 19:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

As for "cherry picking", apartheid wall returns 452,000 hits on google[3]. It's obviously a phrase that is in wide use rather than a random reference. Homey 19:47, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Instead of reverting within five minutes can you just wait for Natalya to respond? And I actually did respond to your point on your talk page. "Apartheid wall" is in wide use, 452,000 hits on google. How many hits does apartheid in regards to same-sex marriage get?Homey 19:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

As for you coming up with yet another argument after your original is dealt with I think this is an example of that: Are we to list same-sex marriage as well as an example of sexual apartheid?.Homey 19:53, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Please stop conducting this on three separate talk pages. Homey 19:54, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

We had an AFD in which the consensus was to merge apartheid wall with Israel West Bank barrier. Please do not unilaterally overturn that. Homey 20:53, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Also, it's not acceptable to make a major change and pass it off as a minor edit. Homey 20:54, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about the minor issues, my profile defaults to having minor edit checked. As for the former, the issues are there, but it makes no sense for a section whose primary purpose is apartheid to be in a non-apartheid article. But, if it really concerns you, feel free to revert it and I can put it up for a new merge/delete nomination. -- Avi 20:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I removed the section from my talk page as it was already on two other talk pages. The other problem with your rewrite was that it left only the criticisms of the term "apartheid wall" with none of the reasons for the description ie it was a very POV rewrite. Homey 21:00, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Funny, I thought I had both: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Israeli_West_Bank_barrier&diff=63109278&oldid=63107482

Some opponents call the barrier the "Apartheid wall", arguing it promotes apartheid by isolating Palestinian communities in the West Bank and consolidating the annexation of Palestinian land by Israeli settlements. Opponents of the term reject both the "Apartheid" and "wall" designations, mainly because they disagree with the implicit analogy with South Africa, but also because 93% of barrier is currently fenced while only seven percent is actually walled.

I have deleted reference to the High Table Cup from the article on the Adelaide University Sports Association. The HTC has no connection to the AUSA. The colleges are not affiliated to the AUSA and the cup is not run by the AUSA. I'm surprised it was added with out any regard as to there being a connection. I have looked through the AUSA diary (started in 1896) and there is no mention of any historical link to the HTC or intercollegiate sport Ozdaren 14:32, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

That's no problem. I'm a former honorary secretary of the AUSA. As mentioned I have access to their diary which is a compilation of historical events from the AUSA's annual reports. It goes back to 1896 and only makes mention of inter-college sport in passing. Inter-collegiate sport has never been a part of the AUSA's responsibilities. Ozdaren 14:45, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm probably the only person in Adelaide with a digital copy of the diary. I'm in the process of creating a suitable version of the historical events for the AUSA article. Ozdaren 14:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Repitition

I know, but you insisted that I hadn't replied to your argument when I actually had. Perhaps instead of trying to get the upper hand by mischaracterizing what I said or by throwing out absurd non-analogies you should step back and let others comment? Indeed, you have completely ignored all comments made by others. Homey 15:53, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

LOL, It is a pleasure talking with you, Homey; I hope you are enjoying yourself as much as I am. I said you are repeating yourself; and further, your argument is primarily based on the term having a slew of google hits, not the concepts. I'd be glad to see where I misunderstood you, I'm only human, you know. Regardless, i'd like to see other contributions now. -- Avi 15:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Then stop arguing with me. Homey 17:03, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Please, Homey, no need to be so defensive :) -- Avi 17:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Also, there's no need to post both on your talk page and on mine. Homey 17:04, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure there is, so that the conversation can be followed by anyone reading; otherwise it is like listening to one side of a telephone conversation. But I shall stop after this, if it truly annoys you. -- Avi 17:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Look around on other talk pages and you'll see your habit of posting entire conversations on two talk pages (it was three for awhile yesterday) is unusual. Homey 17:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

That does not make it wrong; perhaps other people do not care to provide the recipient with an entire thread so that everything is understood and nothing is taken out of context. I tend to prefer my way as being more civil, preventing misunderstandings, and overall a better example of wikiquette. While I have high standards for encyclopædic content, I prefer to go the extra mile to maintain civility and respect among the editors. Notice, I am not copying this to your talk page, per your specific request, but I reserve the right to continue this practice 8-) -- Avi 17:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

And to repost the whole conversation after I've removed it is just rude. Homey 17:10, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Please check your history, Homey, it was only the part that I was responding to, and for the reasons above. I could post the diffs, but as it is likely you will not be checking here, and I am not reposting, it does seem moot. Very well; thankfully most other editors I have contact with seem to appreciate my manners and attempts at civility more so than you do. De gustibus non est disputandum. -- Avi 17:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Blair Force One

Hi. I agreed with its deletion but I'm just wondering why you merged it into Air transports of Heads of State? It seems to me there is a clear majority for renaming the article Air transport of the Royal Family and executive of the United Kingdom (or some variation). Did you choose to ignore it or had you some other reason? I intend to create the article and create a {{main}} link at Air transports of Heads of State. Any objections? Regards Mark83 20:33, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

This was very redundant to the heads of state article, in that around 80% of the information in BFO was already in Heads of State, unlike the squadron article. The suggested name, IMO, seems very long and artificial, when we already have an article about Air transportation of various heads of state. What I would suggest is placing a {{splitsection}} tag in that section, and discussing it on the talk page, and polling for a consensus. At least, that is what I would do. -- Avi 21:00, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
But there is a consensus on the AFD listing. I know the title is a trainwreck, but it's important to note that the aircraft (past, present or future) are not for the sole use of the Royal Family or the executive, but both. So maintaining the standard of Air transport of.... Air transport of the Royal Family and executive of the United Kingdom is the shortest, most correct title available IMO. Mark83 21:07, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Aren't both the Prime Minister and the Queen considered heads of state? Also, if you look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blair Force One, while there is a consensus to merge, there does not seem to be a consensus on the title. Some say to heads of state, some to the squadron, some to the new article, and some do not make any mention of a title, which is why I merged it to the one that it most logically resembled, in my opinion. As I do not think there was a consensus on the name, I would suggest using the {{splitsection}} tag, and if no one makes a fuss on the talk page in a few days or so, go ahead and split it out. -- Avi 21:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
You're right, there isn't really a naming consensus. I've followed your split section discussion suggestion. And no, Queen is head of state, PM head of government. In theory the executive is entirely subservient to monarch, but of course in practice a monarch would never challenge a democratically elected government. Mark83 22:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Jews and Judaism- A single entity

Hi there Avi. I noticed your comment concerning pursuing the idea that historically Jews and Judaism were not separate concepts, implying that Judaism encompasses more than the word religion would imply. Perhaps R'Hirsch would be of assistance in your rewrite:

  • What the Torah wants to regulate is not only the thoughts and sentiments of man, but the whole of human existence- man's sensual impulses, his needs and desires, his individual life as well as that of his family, society and state. The Torah is the unique message of G-d addressed to Man in his totality.
  • "The name "religion" became fatal to the true understanding of the Torah because this name was given to it in complete defiance of the fact that the essence of the Torah is in complete contrast to what is usually known as religion and it's manifestations."(Volume I pages 184-187)

And last but not least:

  • "All analogies used to describe Judaism are defective. Judaism is not a religion, the synagogue is not a church and the rabbi is not a priest. Judaism is not a mere adjunct to life... Judaism comprises all of life. To be a Jew is the sum total of life's purpose.to be a Jew in the house of worship and in the kitchen, in the field and in the store, at the office..." etc. etc.(Volume VI page 122).

I thought this implied that Judaism is more than "religion" because everything is generated from within Judaism, there really is no facet of Jewishness that falls outside its purview. This is opposed to the presentation of the Boyarin quote, which implied that Judaism is less than religion because outside influences are part of it. Anyway, just thought I would drop a line. Due to the returning nature and content of this vandal I put a lenghty block on their IP (1 fortnight), a RIR lookup on them APNIC shows that they could potentially be in an ISP addressing pool, and could host potential good editors in the future. Indefinite blocks on anons are generally only placed for open proxies. If they return in 2 weeks with the same issues, I'd go for a 3 fortnight block next time. — xaosflux Talk 04:14, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Heads of state/UK air transport

It looks like you're having to defend yourself, however after reviewing the dicussion I don't think you did anything wrong. The article had to go and you moved it to a suitable place pending further discussion (and in absence of a consensus for a new name). You dealt with what was in front of you very well. Thanks again, Mark83 12:19, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to drop in on you like that, but you were recommended to me by Briangotts ; could you have a look at the link above and tell me if this article in userspace could constitute an attack or something in this line? I've semiprotected it at a the users request, but as he has been, let's say difficult, in the past, I kind of wonder. Cheers and many Thanks in advance. Ps.: see also here. Cheers. Naming conventions for yeshivas

Hi Avraham: An important discussion is taking place at Talk:Telshe yeshiva that concerns issues relating to naming conventions for yeshivas. Your comments and observations at Talk:Telshe yeshiva would be very helpful. Perhaps it should become part of a broader discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism#Naming conventions for yeshivas. Best wishes, IZAK 06:05, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Worthy use of your new admin powers

Congratulations on your recent granting of admin powers. I would like to draw your attention to a worthy use of those powers - the closing of copyvio reports listed on WP:CP. As you'll see there are many tens of such reports that need dealing with each day, and the backlog is barely being kept under control despite a couple of us spending lots of time working on them. The process is pretty easy and sorting a few only takes a little time and with a group of people helping, we can keep the backlog under control easily - just review the article & the source to ensure it is a copy, and then delete. Any help would certainly be appreciated - any questions, ask away. Kcordina Talk 09:05, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Reference cleanup

Thanks for cleaning up those references. The <ref> mechanism is painful to get right, and multiple references to the same item are even worse. At one point, someone gave up and just wrote "ibid", which is rarely seen today. --John Nagle 18:20, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

From Ilia: Elijah or Elijah?

I personally think that the redirect is OK, that is that if Elijah ever gets changed from a redirect into a disambig then the change may go unnoticed in the Ilia article. What do you think? BigNate37T·C 00:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

If that gets changed, then it should be changed on all of the pages that link there, so I believe it is OK. Further, fewer redirects put less strain on the wiki servers. -- Avi 02:47, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure you're in the right. Take a look at WP:R#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken and check out the bolded sentence. That policy actually states specifically not to worry about server load, quoting WP:PERF. If Elijah gets turned into an article, will the editor responsible really go through all the pages that link to Elijah (prophet) and decide which article they should be direct at? Those links seem to directly refute your reasons. BigNate37T·C 03:04, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Avi: i found a rare book dealer who is also a prof at u of iowa. he provided the following info; Dear Mr. Brophy -- books published in the United States in or before 1922 are in the public domain. See our copyright page at http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/spec-coll/Users/copyright.html, including the links to Gasaway and Hirtle.

By the way, ISBN numbers were not invented until the 1960-1970s, so the number you cite is probably an artifical addition by one of the current book sites. It was certainly not assigned in 1911! Cordially ------ Sid Huttner. joe 14:13, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow! Thanks for that info - for a minute there I thought you wrote it all yourself! So, based on what you've kindly shown me, it seems that an "en dash" is appropriate as an interlocutor between birth and death dates, as it "connects things that are related to each other by distance". Does this mean I'm correct and Crz is...? With many thanks, Nesher 15:44, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Avi. I see you've been rounding up more articles on these dubious little IQ clubs...I found two more here and here. Avi NEED your help

someone sent me a message saying i vandalized a page, and that i have been canceled from wikipedia. although i was just able to sign on this time. joe 19:56, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Avi: here is what happened

when i logged on to wiki a few hours ago, about 5pm, maybe, i had a yelow or organge message indicating new mail. i clicked on it and was sent to a site that had some colored warning boxes. dont know the user name. the boxes indicated that i committed serious acts of vandalism, and that i was being blocked from using wiki.

the next thing i recall was being on a page where my user name and the search box was not there. after of few minutes i signed off. then i signed on and there was not new mail message, and i was able to edit.

have not a clue what happend to me. was it a fluke or an error or a trick. dont know. everything seems to be working fine right now. sorry to trouble you on nonsense. joe 03:52, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
