Bro ya dead wrong, the edits i made were correct. Contrary to popular belief Jim Thorpe was actually an Italiano. It is not scientificly possible for such a great athlete to not have been from da great nation of ITALIA. So either his records are tainted or he was ITALIANO. I"m inclined to believe the records arent tained. Therefore hes DA BIGGEST ITALIANO and my edits were indeed accurate. iight yo 1 Dabiggestestitaliano (talk) 21:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

June 2008

[edit]

xD just read the argument below. pretty classy I must say..

so whats wrong with the page labelled "Fucknuts"? Its a term quite widely used and quite deserves a wikipedia page.

Just because it is a widely used term doesn't mean that it deserves an encyclopaedia page - otherwise we would have thousands of pages for every single term in the English language. Have a read of the What Wikipedia is not and Notability articles for more information. Also I only tagged the page, an administrator deleted it, which means they agree with me. Why not create one of the articles listed on this page? AvnjayTalk 23:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

STOP EDITING MY CHANGES TO PAUL KAYE WHAT IM SAYING IS 100% FACT!!

The edit was reverted first by Mifter at 14:24, and I followed suit. It's not really encyclopaedic content (can't put every person's favourite film on their page), has no reference, and doesn't explain how an actor/comedian controls a television channel. I will leave it for the moment to allow you time to provide the necessary information, but if you can't then I will remove it again. Don't just keep adding the same material if it is reverted, that is called edit warring and is guaranteed to get you blocked. Normally you should post it on the article's talk page and see if other editors agree with you. Also please respect the talk page guidelines when writing on talk pages. AvnjayTalk 13:59, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
what do you mean 'how an actor/comedian controls a television channel' he doesnt control it they just got celebs to introduce it,just please stop 'reverting' it theres no point in doing it, and as for your other 'point' people always put actors fave films,so just stop being a dick hed ok?and also ive read the thing on edit war ande it agrees with me notyou because yor not giving any valid reasons for deliting my changes
Please read WP:CIVIL before replying to another post, as otherwise you will find yourself blocked for incivility. I did not revert it last time (as I said I wouldn't) which means another editor agrees with me. I understand what you mean by "introduced" now. Your edits were reverted for introducing what was viewed as non-encyclopaedic content repeatedly even after being warned. I warned you that just re-adding the reverted content is likely to get it reverted again. Put it on the Talk page and ask for a consensus. AvnjayTalk 14:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

That was an act of carelessness on my part. I saw the other persons revert, so I assumed this person wasn't a good faith editor. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Have a nice day!--SJP Chat 23:05, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks:-)--SJP Chat 23:16, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep on deleting my post? What's wrong with it?

The following was written by a Korean middle school student in Teacher Jane Lee's English class.

Stephen Hawking is a famous and smart doctor. People say he is a genius. Really! He is a genius! I think he is also a diligent person. Nobody thought he would be a great doctor. Give up!, somebody said to him, but he studied hard and became one of the greatest doctors in history.

Unfortunately everyone can't add their own poem to the page otherwise it would become rather full. There already is an example there so let's just leave it at that one. I wouldn't keep adding it if I were you as it will just lead to you being blocked. AvnjayTalk 11:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I beg to disagree. This acrostic was written by a boy who isn't a native English speaker. I think that in itself is impressive and the acrostic is quite creative. There are very few examples for now so it's not "rather full" yet. What's with the threat? And who died and made you God? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.96.239.41 (talk) 11:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are three examples there, two of which are by famous poets and have been published. I am definitely not passing judgement on the poem's quality. Unfortunately we get a lot of people who find it amusing to add their own little contribution to different pages and, of course, we can't accommodate them all. The wonderful thing about Wikipedia is that no editor is God and your opinion is just as valid. So if you think your poem should be added I recommend putting it on the Talk page of the article and asking for other editors' opinions. I wasn't threatening you (I'm not an admin so I can't block you!) just warning you that if you keep adding the material an admin would likely block you for breaking the three revert rule. Any further questions feel free to ask. Have a nice day. AvnjayTalk 21:50, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There ought to be a modification to the "3 revert rule", that it has to be reverted 3 times by 3 different people (of course, anybody can just "call for help" from other trigger-happy editors. This rule was probably put in place to have some sort of check and balance, so that if an entry "does not meet Wikipidia standards", it may be reverted. In the same vein, if one shmuck keeps on posting trash, then he should be blocked. But 2 others should concur, otherwise, 1 person can practically play god by reverting the same entry 3 times, therefore leading the poster closer to being perma blocked. Having an entry reverted 3 times by the same person defeats the purpose of check and balance. Let my post remain and see what the others have to say, without having to call for backup.
Ah but not only you but I would be blocked as well for reverting three times (unless it was clear vandalism). Therefore in a case where vandalism is disputed I would revert it twice if I thought it was inappropriate and then leave it to someone else. Otherwise we would end up in an edit war. Just a friendly reminder as well to sign your posts using four tildes (~). Feel free to post it again and I won't revert it but I would expect someone else would for the reasons outlined above. Anyway I hope you continue to edit in the future. Happy editing. AvnjayTalk 10:36, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

86.134.54.54

[edit]

Regarding 86.134.54.54 (talk · contribs), I'm not sure that vandalism revert/warning was appropriate in that situation. It seems to me that they meant well, and their combativeness may well stem from feeling bitten by the harsh reception which unfortunately seems to have been their first interaction with any Wikipedians. There may not be a lot you can do, in this particular case, but please be mindful that not all odd edits are vandalism, and that interactions with newcomers can cause very sensitive first impressions. – Luna Santin (talk) 20:31, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I disagree and think that this was a clear case of vandalism. Issue seems to be resolved now though, as per User_talk:86.134.54.54, User_talk:Luna_Santin#86.134.54.54 and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#86.134.54.54!

I think the last article(86.134.54.54) was an IP address so I checked and it turned out to be someone in London...Just saying that how all hackers (like me) have a source of finding out where someone lives...I suggest people keep their IP addresses to themselves just to be on the safe side. :) Have fun! Hi, since it was blatant that the user was writing about themselves I moved the page to their user space at the same time as you were adding the csd tag. I then undid your edit once I realised that you had made it. I find it is quite common that new users will create articles about themselves when a user page would suffice, so its less intimidating to move the article rather than mark it for deletion. -- roleplayer 18:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I understand now. That's a really good idea - you're right it's definitely more welcoming to new editors! I shall bear it in mind in the future. Happy editing. AvnjayTalk 18:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need help with the Agarwood article

[edit]

Hi, you left a "warning... you will be blocked if..." type of comment on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Hafizmuar

So I was wondering if you are capable of doing that because I am having a LOT of trouble with this guy. I "studied" the history of the Agarwood article a bit and here are some comments about this guy's edits:

  • he has in effect claimed ownership of the article. He reverts any edit made by others FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS, including formatting edits that don't change his content
  • he keeps putting his pictures in 800x600 right in the middle of the page
  • he writes about the importance of his work in malaysia as Professor Sulaiman Bin Doss, etc.
  • Seeing earlier photos he put on the page makes it apparent that he has a commercial interest in this article. He puts his website, cell phone, etc. info plus pics of Agarwood products his company makes.

I have no idea what to do about this besides reverting to a cleaned up version every time he changes it so if you are an admin or know how things work, please help me out! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Althena (talkcontribs) 19:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Althena! I'm not actually an admin but I can help you out! I've just been over every edit Hafizmuar has made, which have all been to do with the Agarwood article. Some of the edits, such as this one are ok, if lacking in sources. However, as you say a large number of them are adding spam about a company or a person (also here and in many other places). Other of his edits have been to replace large sections of material with a version which is unreferenced and not quite so encyclopaedic although containing new information, such as here. On Wikipedia though we always try and assume good faith. Therefore, we will assume that Hafizmuar is unaware of what he has been doing wrong and explain it to him on his talk page, which I will do immediately after this post. This might seem a cop out but it is part of Wikipedia's policy to be as gentle as possible! It is, however, also a necessary first step before a User conduct request for comment can be filed, which could be the next step should the edits continue. Because his edits aren't purely and obviously vandalism it would be inappropriate to list at WP:AIV.
Just a quick note for you - could you remember to sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~ which will put your username and time stamp on your posts?
Feel free to add something after my post on his talk page, just remember to be gentle :)! We'll see what happens next! AvnjayTalk 21:03, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah sorry, I've looked into it a bit more and understand now. My orginal thought was "You can't write things like "following the Christian misinterpretation of the Hebrew Bible"" without a significant source but having read the Wiki page on Moses#Horned_Moses I see what you are getting at. Maybe better to write "following Jerome's mistranslation of the Septuagint" and provide wiki links to both Jerome and the Septuagint. Sounds less controversial that way. Will remove the vandalism warning as well. AvnjayTalk 20:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I have a question not a post.

[edit]
How do you find peoples talk pages when nobody is posting on it and they're all lonely?

Friendofmicrochips :  Chat  12:34, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The best way of doing this is to go to a page such as recent changes (look on the left) and then look for users who have the "talk" link show up red. These are people with empty talk pages. If you want to add lots of Welcome templates then why not activate Friendly. Welcoming new users is a great thing to do. AvnjayTalk 19:01, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You still haven't answered my sister's question...Are you a boy or girl? I'm eager to know. Friendofmicrochips :  Chat  —Preceding undated comment was added at 01:12, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I looked at recent changes and looked at the red talk links but the page does not exist and the user pages don't exist and how do I activate Friendly? Maybe the pages don't exist because nothing is on it right? or no?Friendofmicrochips :  Chat
Yes the red links mean that the page doesn't exist because someone hasn't written anything on it. You are always welcome to be the first to do so. You activate Friendly through your preferences - click "my preferences" at the top of your page. In answer to your other question it's common policy on Wikipedia not to give out personal information. AvnjayTalk 09:56, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, why delete an article for the game I listed? I'm new to posting on wiki and was trying to figure out how to upload an image so I saved the article then noticed it was marked for deletion a few seconds later. Give me a break please (or at least some constructive help). Also, if I messed up this talk change, my apologies, as I said, I'm new to this. --[[Shavenlunatic (talk) 11:21, 2 September 2008 (UTC)]][reply]

Hi Shavenlunatic, and welcome to Wikipedia! I tagged you article Daemornia: Battlegrounds Online for speedy deletion because I felt it did not meet Wikipedia's standards for notability. Wikipedia has rules for the types of articles that are allowed to be posted to ensure that it maintains its high standards. Take a read of the notability guideline page for more info. I will also post some more links on your talk page. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have. Happy editing :) AvnjayTalk 11:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again,
I assume it was the "Independent of the subject" clause, but I'm not sure, you could just tell me to save me from guessing. In the meanwhile I'll just read more into the guidelines and just hope someone else fills in the gap where the game is. [[Shavenlunatic (talk) 11:49, 2 September 2008 (UTC)]][reply]
Certainly if you are involved with the subject of the article it does count against you often (also read the policy on conflict of interest), but it was generally the notability of the subject I was getting at. There are thousands of online games, just as there are hundreds of thousands of non-online games. Only those which are considered noteworthy are included on Wikipedia. If you feel that your game is notable then you must demonstrate this in your article. So far, from reading your article, the website has 1600 users, which I'm afraid isn't really that many. It has also only been running for three months. I couldn't see anything which made it stand out from the crowd and make it worthy of an encyclopaedic article. Does this explain it a bit more? AvnjayTalk 12:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. And yes, it is a new game, but we have been getting direct correspondence from people asking if we would complete the wiki entry (dead link) so I obliged. I didn't realise, until now, there was an issue with conflict of interest, I wasn't completing it for promotional reasons but if those are the rules then I accept them. I will advise that if people feel we should have/deserve a wiki article then they should create it themselves.
I think people have wanted a wiki entry on this due to there being no other real alternatives to this game online other than 1 very large company (trying not to mention names as to not fall into the self-promotion hole) which offers no value for money (rather than our not required approach). I will remove the dispute on the deletion of the article (and delete it if I can, don't know as I've never had to do it). If someone else decides to write an article and can explain why it should be more notable then so be it, until then I'll just accept that this article doesn't exist for now. Thanks for the advice anyway, [[Shavenlunatic (talk) 12:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)]][reply]
Shavenlunatic, rarely do I get to deal with such agreeable editors when dealing with a dispute over a speedy deletion! You can still edit an article even with a conflict of interest you just have to be extra careful to ensure you are neutral and don't give weight to a particular side. See if you can find some external references to do with the website as that would greatly increase the article's standing. For guidelines as which sources are considered reliable read WP:SOURCE. If an external third party produces the article it is definitely considered more reliable than if you do it yourself. Feel free to have another go yourself though, with references and notability asserted! I would be more than happy to give you my thoughts on it if you wish. Have a good day. AvnjayTalk 19:48, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the advice, I'm fine with the deletion as you were willing to take the time to give valid reasons. When someone gets round to creating the article and I opt to update it, it will purely contain the facts and explain the game, I wouldn't enjoy reading a page that was basically a lengthy promotion for a game, so I wouldn't go down that route myself. So as much as it pains me to say, thanks for deleting the article :)
If nothing else, it's been a learning experience.. i'll take a good read through the guides and take it from there, cheers Shavenlunatic (talk) 07:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Da Costa's syndrome subpage

[edit]

Avnjay, Thankyou for setting up the Da Costa's syndrome subpage here [[2]]. I am in the process of providing the text and will be checking it during the week ready to post it on wikipedia next Sunday. Could you please set up a reference section at the end of the page so that the citations will be added to the list automatically. Could you also set up an associated talk page so that you and SmokeyJoe can make any comments related to improving it to encyclopedic style and compliance with sourcing and other policy. You could make your comments at any time, but I would like to consider them and respond once a week, on Sundays, and would hope to complete the task to a satisfactory format in about a month. When we have reached a consensus about it’s suitability you and SmokeyJoe could start the process of merging it with the existing Da Costa page, or any other Da Costa subpage via a different discussion process where the discussion would involve all interested parties. I hope this plan is acceptable, and if you wish to make any suggestions or alterations to the timeframe or process I will respond next Sunday. Thankyou again for your interest and assistance and for reviewing the discussion pages related to this topic here [[3]]Posturewriter (talk) 02:33, 21 September 2008 (UTC)posturewriter[reply]

[edit]

Avnjay,

I know that you've pretty much been inactive for a couple of months, but Posturewriter has repeatedly (four times? six times? just in the last two days?) quoted part of one of your comments on his draft for Da Costa's syndrome as 'proof' that there is consensus for him to replace the entire page with his draft. He's just been blocked for edit warring and COI violations. If you have a minute, you might want to read his recent talk page comments and suggest to him that a single statement from 'way back when, taken out of context, is not sufficient to overcome active opposition.

In the meantime, I've started dealing with the worst of his sources at WP:RSN. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:17, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
