Steve Spurrier

I noticed that you reverted my edit on the Spurrier article. I was wondering if you could tell me your rationale for the revert. Is it common Wikipedia style to space articles in that way? I personally think that the article flows better with a more stand use of paragraph spacing, as opposed to the one-sentence paragraph format it is in now. I tried to organize it so that each season warrants a single paragraph. Let me know. At any rate, you also reverted some new information that I added (relating South Carolina's Liberty Bowl victory and final season record). I'm going to re-add that, but won't consider changing the spacing again until you get back to me.

By the way, War Eagle! I was born and raised in Alabama and grew up an Auburn fan (with family alums). I've been in school at South Carolina for a couple of years and am a little bit of a Gamecock fan as well. Havardj Jack 20:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Your edit did what I had hoped to do in a more precise manner. I think the article really reads better now. You're right about the recentism. The article disproportionately represents Spurrier's acomplishments (or lack thereof in the Washington Redskins case) in the last four years, while there is relatively little info on his more significant accomplishments at UF. The article could really be improved by extensively familiar with the 90s Gators--unfortunately, I'm not that person. Anyways, take care. Havardj Jack 05:45, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Auburn basketball

I’ve got a question that I hope you can answer. In the mid to late 90’s the Auburn basketball team was somewhere in the top 3, maybe even number 1. I was hoping you remember how far in the tournament they went. A reference about this season needs to be made in the Auburn athletics article as well. In the last 20 years, the farthest the Tigers have gone was the Elite Eight in 1986, losing to Louisville in the West Region Final. They also went in 1987 and 1988 making it to the Sweet Sixteen. The next appearance in 1999 made it to the Sweet Sixteen again, but lost to Ohio State (South Region Semi-final) 72-64 - this was the team with starters Chris Porter, Scotty Pohlman, Mamadou Ndiaye, Bryant Smith and Doc Robinson. Autiger: You are correct about the photo - I did not dig deep enough. The photographer declared a different Creative Commons license than the one I tagged. In fact, I'm having a bad night - I just checked and I'm 0 for 3 with uploads tonight. Lucky me - I get to spend time undoing a bunch of work. Don't worry - I did not take it as you trying to be a pain. Any extra work I've had to do was self-inflicted by not being thorough enough in reviewing the license before uploading.

As to the table, I agree - Georgia red and Auburn orange don't mix well. Although I think I'm pretty used up tonight, I will experiment with a few other formats. I do like the idea of using school colors, but we could also use neutral colors. Here's what it would look like with "neutral" colors - Red River Shootout#Game results. If you want to experiment with my working draft, have at it. TechTower image request

Hi, Autiger, an image you uploaded, Image:TechTower.jpg, is used in the article Tech Tower, which has been nominated at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. The image is licensed as GFDL-with-disclaimers. Since you appear to be the author, could you change the license to GFDL-self? This identifies you as the author in the image tag, and removes a reference to disclaimers that is incompatible with other Wikimedia projects, such as the Commons. (See Wikipedia:GFDL standardization for more on the disclaimers). If this applies to any other images you have uploaded, it would be appreciated if you could fix them as well. College Players

Well, seeing as how Pat Lazear has much controversy surrounding him, and he is one of the biggest recruits coming into West Virginia in awhile, I created his article. On Dorrell Jalloh, he caught the winning 2-point conversion pass that won the game against Louisville for the Mountaineers. He is also one of the starting receivers for the upcoming season. Most of the other WVU players I created were starting RBs, which I plan on continuing then making a list of all Starting WVU RBs.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated

Hello there, I am a fellow member of Wikiproject jazz. I was wondering, if you had a moment to spare, if you would be willing to give your opinion on a matter at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 June 15 concerning a category I created. The category is [[Category:Jazz musicians of New Orleans]], and it has been proposed that the article be merged with Musicians of New Orleans and American jazz musicians. This is precisely why I created the category, because it seemed to me the birthplace of jazz music and continous modern symbol of jazz certainly deserves a category unto itself. Volleyball

As for the links...I was just adding to the list since there was nothing on the site at the moment. It had to start somewhere. As for the neutrality...the article has a lot of cleanup work or desperate need of citations/sources before it becomes a good article. At this point it is basically opinions and editorials. Oh the Place You'll Go

The statement I removed is not true. Why would you allow an uncited statement that is an opinion to remain on the page? You also removed my edit with no discussion on the talk page. You should consider refraining from editing Wikipedia articles as you have no knowledge on how to properly reference articles, as well as common internet etiquette (i.e. remove contributions carelessly and without explanation.) This time, maybe you can consider responding to me without being so trigger-happy with edits. Thank you for your concerns, Mr. Anonymous. A few comments:

1. You replaced the statement with "NOT TRUE" [1] which was an unencyclopedic WP:NONSENSE statement within the article text.
2. The existing statement was marked with a {{fact}} (^{citation needed}) tag so people were warned that it might not be verified.
3. Although unverified at that point, it did not require immediate removal like a potential slanderous statement on a living person's bio would as the statement was fairly uncontroversial and not "likely to be challenged" (IMHO).
4. Last (and certainly not least) it was true and verifiable with a simple Google search which led to the cite I added to the article.[2]

I'm sorry you felt the revert was not courteous, but because your edit was technically incorrect and anonymous, it appeared to be vandalism and with almost 1100 articles on my watchlist, I use a helper tool which inserts a standard summary to deal with vandalism on those articles. Rather than preaching about policies you seem to not fully understand, I'd suggest you create an account and become more familiar with Wikipedia editing and policies so that you may avoid such issues in the future. I'm sorry you fundamentally misunderstand Wikipedia functionality. All of your contributions are readily viewable by anyone and since you choose to edit anonymously rather than from a registered account, your contributions are associated with your IP address, which is in no way private information. Because of your bad faith edit after a verifiable(and verified) source was provided for the statement that concerned you in Oh, the Places You'll Go! as well as the long list of vandalism warnings on your IP address' talk page, it was prudent for me to review the recent edits from your IP address. In your edit to Huntsville, Alabama, you removed Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder from the article with the edit summary removed person who is unnoteworthy - a statement that is a blatant misrepresentation given Wales' well-established notability; such misrepresentation and deletion is clearly vandalism. Given those edits as well as another edit adding a clearly unencyclopedic statement that was reverted by another editor immediately, it appears your intent is merely to disrupt the functioning of Wikipedia. You should be aware based on the history of vandalism from your IP address, further vandalism could result in a long-term block of the address. AUTiger » talk 19:52, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

WP:PPR

You are totally correct, Picture peer review is a lonely mess. I archived a ton of really old nominations, and put at least one comment on all the nominations I left on the page (including yours). I haven't finished cleaning it up completely (there are still some incomplete nominations sprinkled at the bottom), but it is a far sight better. I really think that it should be a very useful page, so I'm trying to make it work. I've just watched it, and maybe if more people do the same, it will be useful. You can help me clean it up and make comments on nominations, too! Enuja 02:26, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment, both here and on my image. I know you're not fond of the pose, but it definitely has caught several folks' attention; most of the articles it's attached to, I didn't add it to. As to the sharpness, the image I uploaded here is actually cropped and downsized a bit from the raw image I shot that day. Generaly, getting a decent image in that environment is tough - catching a handler and animal at a major sporting event in a position for a decent pic without a distracting background or the handler in the shot is pretty tough, period.

As to helping out at Peer review, for a while I tried to vote at Featured pic, but stopped because the standards there are so high, including technical aspects I'm not sure I'm qualifed to judge. I like to think I'm a reasonably talented amateur photographer, but I haven't studied some of the tech details that seem to come into play at FP. Thanks, again. I haven't even tried to take a good picture for about five years, so I'm less than an amateur! I think if you spend a bit of time reading other people's comments on WP:FPC, you pick up most of the relevant technical details. Also, WP:PPR does succeed in getting lots of images that would get unanimous opposes on FPC, so I'm quite certain you could give lots of really useful comments to the people who post images on PPR. I'm quite embaressed that, except for one comment on a really good image, I'm the only one who has posted any comments on PPR in the last week or so. Also, there are some images on PPR right now that I'm using too poor a monitor to give really good feedback on. (I'll be using my good monitor in probably less than a week.)) Position links issue

I feel like you may have misunderstood the issue with position links in Template:Infobox NFL active. The way User:Jmfangio has it set up, whatever you type in the "currentposition" field will link to the that article. Some work fine, Quarterback for example. But others don't. If you write Center, you HAVE to include (American football) to get it to the right article, but there's no way to mask this and hide the (American football) part the way it's set up. See User:Chrisjnelson/Sandbox for an example. Now if WE put the brackets for links in ourselves, like I've suggested, we don't have this problem.►Chris Nelson 19:05, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

The pipe trick doesn't resolve having to type in the parenthetical in the infobox field, but it will hide it when displayed in read mode. From your example (Hadnot?) I thought that was the issue. If the issue is having to type in the parenthetical portion in the first place, I don't think there is a solution, save naming all position articles with consistent qualifiers - i.e. (American football) - as someone else suggested. Hi Autiger. You are off to such a great start on the article Al Borges that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. American Family Association

The guideline you asked me about, WP:CATGRS, actually involves when it is or isn't appropriate to create dedicated ethnic/sexuality/gender categories such as Category:African American musicians, Category:Gay writers or Category:Female heads of government; it has almost no applicability to the situation at hand. I'll still weigh in, but all I can offer is my personal opinion rather than any kind of appeal to written guidelines. Bearcat 17:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Auburn University Marching Band

In regards to the questions you put forth on the AUMB talk page, I was not directly paid per hour nor did I sign any employment forms out. (From your user page, Autiger, I assume that you were once in the AUMB as well.) As far as being compensated, I had the same privleges as a regular member of the band, except that I was listed as staff in press releases and other published material. Like the members, I received per diem, etc. on away game trips. I used my own equipment except for sending the photos (CD) to the webmaster after each game. Thanks for the welcome! I've used Wikipedia for a long time, but had never contributed. I thought maybe it would be too hard, or maybe I didn't know enough about anything to add stuff to Wikipedia. It wasn't until I stumbled across Hate crimes against LGBT people and knew there were cases I knew about that weren't there. And I'd already written about some of them. And since research and writing is what I do...

So far, so good. I've gotten some good comments, but some of my articles would be better with pictures. Thing is, I'm sure the ones I have are copyrighted, and I'd probably violate some policy if I used them. I haven't read the criteria for that yet. Commons notification

While I certainly see your point, I also feel that the majority of people (especially with the rash of messages from Betacommandbot and the like) don't want to be bothered, and would notice it like you did if they cared. Of course, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the minority, and I wouldn't be offended in the least if you mentioned something at the corresponding WikiProject, because as of right now, the standard is to not bother leaving a message. AU template

I like your editions to the template, but for some reason I think one of the colors you added looks more red than orange. Do you agree or am I seeing something? I also tried to create the template using the official colors on the Auburn page and again it looked too red. Maybe I just don't know the official colors of Auburn. Undrafted free agents in NFL infobox

Hi, I'm writing you because you have previously posted on Template talk:Infobox NFLactive and I would like your opinion on an addition I made that is being contested. I have added a field to the infobox called "undraftyear", and when a year is entered it adds a line under a guy's college that says "Undrafted in 1997" or whatever year is appropriate. I did this because I felt there should be something noting a guy went undrafted, similar to the info for drafted players that was already in place. To see how this would look in an article, see here or here. If you would be in favor of this edit, I'd ask you to kindly voice this at Template talk:Infobox NFLactive#Undrafted free agents. It is being contested by one person because they feel the year should not be there. I feel the year is important, just as the year of drafting is important. Thanks for the kind words. It had been on my to-do list as well, pending getting some pictures (not to mention being busy). I tried to shoot interiors at the open house this past Sunday, but wasn't happy with the overcast sky for exterior shots (hope to get back over there soon for that). Atlanta's second airport

Thanks for working on the Atlanta's second airport page. I've been watching it for a few weeks, but haven't had time to really get into it. About the title: I think we can do better that this one, but I'm not sure what would work, or if there are any guidleines for something like this. No problem, I was actually about to add a little more detail about the CoA's Paulding and Dawson tracts as well. Regarding the title, I'm not sure what would be any better at this point since the airport is total speculation right now. A general aviation conversion (not that the best of those seem possible to use because of the NIMBY factor) would probably maintain the existing name. Mellow Mushroom

Thank you for offering to help clean up the Mellow Mushroom page. I have been looking at it on and off for several months and it contained much old, wrong, or weird information. I did some reading on wiki about coding text and codes of ethics, and i regret that my edit caused a stir. I am not editing on behalf of the company although I have worked at 2 different locations. I reviewed your user page and see the many contributions you've made to the development of wikipedia. This site has become a go-to reference for me and is usually at the top of results for many of my searches. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the site. Right now, however, I have much learning to do about proper formating and citation. In the meantime, I appreciate if you do edit and insert proper terms and citations to the above referenced page. College football

First of all, thanks for fixing the paragraph in the Texas A&M Aggies football article. It looks much better now. Secondly, I noticed you asked about which NCAA statistics should be included in the season articles on the CFB Wikiproject talk page. I believe those that are the highest and of relevance should be included in the game notes. For example, Auburn's total defense and scoring defense are currently ranked pretty high. If Auburn were to play a good scoring team, the pass defense rank should be noted. Since the offensive rankings are not as high, I think mentioning only the "total offense" ranking would suffice. However, I think it's really up to the editor as to what rankings should be included. NCAA rankings give readers some perspective as to how good a team may be. What do you say about this? I didn't realize you meant the game notes before; I thought you were wanting a column or a ranking entry in the infobox. Sure, including appropriate info in the game notes makes sense, especially when it's a situation of strength vs. strength or both teams at the top of similar rankings. Ultimate

You reverted a change I made to the Ultimate (sport) page. The UPA has recently (roughly 1 year ago) issued the 11th edition of the rules, and that edition is currently in use for all UPA sanctioned events, as well as most leagues. As such, it is appropriate to shift rules references to the 11th edition, rather than the out of date 10th edition...
