Avenue of the Dead
[edit]I think this is an appropriate topic given the articles on Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon and Temple of the Feathered Serpent, Teotihuacan. However, I would recommend titling the article either "Miccaotli" (the Nahuatl name for the feature or "Avenue of the Dead, Teotihuacan" in the style of Temple of the Feathered Serpent, Teotihuacan, which specifies the site name for users unfamiliar with the Avenue of the Dead. However, this convention has not been used in a consistent fashion. I do not know of other features called "Avenue of the Dead" at other sites, so this is probably okay. I will leave it up to you (and to other Wikipedia editors).
One of the authors whose work you will find to be especially useful is Annabeth Headrick, who has written about the Avenue of the Dead in her book The Teotihuacan Trinity, with a special focus on the mortuary associations, especially with mummy bundles and Teotihuacan incensarios. Your draft entry is excellent. However, it is always possible to improve it even more. In your revisions, I think it's essential to include chronological information whenever possible. For example even an approximate date for the creation of the Avenue of the Dead would be important to include. It's also critical to include the dates of historical documents that are cited, such as the maps of San Francisco Mazapan (for which I included an additional reference). I'm confused about the first sentence of your description: "The Avenue of the Dead runs on a north-south axis, beginning at the cleft over the summit of the Moon Pyramid and approximately ending beside the Quetzalpapálotl complex.[1] In fact, as you noted, the Avenue of the dead is quite long and runs from the plaza in front of the Moon Pyramid in the north south past the Ciudadela and the Great Compound in the south. Can you check this data and make it more accurate? Hoopes (talk) 22:15, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
When you have moved this article into Wikipedia live space, you should consider editing other articles about Teotihuacan that mention the Avenue of the Dead to point back to this article. If, for whatever reason, the merits of the article are challenged by Wikipedia editors, I think it would be helpful fo describe the significance of the Avenue as a major architecture feature that merits the same level of attention as the other major architectural features at Teotihuacan. Something else to consider would be the inclusion of a map or other illustration of the location and appearance of the Avenue of the Dead.Hoopes (talk) 22:23, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
