Route Shields
[edit]The current convention in regards to shielding is that we only put them on articles about specific routes. So the A8 would get one, but the Gore Hill Freeway would not :) -- Nbound (talk) 03:36, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- I was just following the example on Template:Infobox_Australian_road/Examples (eg on the F3 example). If that's not correct, it needs to be updated. Where is the "current convention" defined? Ausmeerkat (talk) 03:57, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- It isnt correct, Ill fix that! - The latest discussion is here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Australian_Roads#Dropping_shield_images_at_the_top_on_the_.22new.22_IAusR, but there has been some discussion before that in the archives. Thats more the the formalisation of it. I will check its been added to our WIP guidelines for the infobox too. -- Nbound (talk) 04:01, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- It is in our WIP guidelines aswell, these are pretty much in the last stage of modification before being either added to, or linked from the IAusR doc page - Nbound (talk) 04:11, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for the links. I'll take a look. Ausmeerkat (talk) 10:01, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
If you are interested in Australian roads by the way, you should join the wikiproject. (link in section title). You can keep abreast of and help influence decisions in regards to AU roads and the guidelines and conventions we are using. :) -- Nbound (talk) 03:57, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

M2/A2 vs M2?
[edit]I am thinking of renaming the current M2 (Sydney) page to M2/A2 (Sydney), meaning the article will talk about both motorway and non-motorway sections. This is because it is an overview and as you said, having two separate overviews seems to be an "overkill". What do you think? Marcnut1996 (talk) 07:57, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not really in favour of that. First, it's a messy title. I think it's best to consider M2 and A2 as distinct routes, and hence should have separate articles. I realise the Highway 1 article goes against this, but I think it's appropriate to consider it a special case, both because of its historical/navigational significance, and because that's the only NSW route I'm aware of which has discontinuous sections with the same route number. In all other cases (e.g. M4/A4, M2/A2) I think separate articles are the way to go. Ausmeerkat (talk) 08:33, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- (Talk page stalker) they arent really separate routes in the traditional sense, the M, A, B designate a level of quality or importance, the route is the number. For example, A1 and M1 are both part of the Highway 1 route. - Nbound (talk) 08:39, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well yes obviously the number is the same between A2 and M2, but the overall identifier is different so the two can be considered different entities. I accept it can be argued either way, but to me (at least in the case of A2/M2 and A4/M4), separate articles is the most clean and logical approach.Ausmeerkat (talk) 09:23, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thats true, but you have to take into account roads that will have 'island' routes like (hypothetical only) A0, M0, A0. The two A0 ends wouldnt be considered the same route (as opposed to the "island"). The route would just be those routes suffixed with 0. If we apply a catchall naming scheme it simplifies it and prevents uneeded disambigs for other routes. It might be worth having a discussion on the articles talk page or at AURD, and open this to a wider audience. Thoughts? :) -- Nbound (talk) 10:38, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Very happy to open this up to wider discussion, as there isn't a clear-cut "right" answer. While I like the idea of a single approach that works everywhere, it's worth noting that the hypothetical situation you discussed only exists on one route (A1/M1/A1/M1/A1/M1/A1/M1 :-), so optimising for one corner case may not be the best approach. Ausmeerkat (talk) 10:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- It would presumably apply to routes in other states too, but I dont know off-hand if it applies to any non highway 1 routes (as obviously the Highway 1 cases can be linked to their existing Highway articles). Let me know when/if you start a thread :) -- Nbound (talk) 11:20, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Calder Highway route shields
[edit]Thanks Ausmeerkat for your prompt update to the Victorian route shielding of the Calder Highway. Just a quick note that C282 has not been uploaded and is currently read as x15px in the Major Intersections & Towns table. If you like, I can post some additional Victorian route numbers that need to be converted if you wish to, and will progressively upgrade all Victorian roads with your fantastic updated shields. Cheers --Rom rulz424 (talk) 01:41, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
@Rom rulz424: - If you need any further shields, please post them on WP:AURD/S - There may be a short delay while I transfer the shields from Commons back to Wikipedia (They may not be PD in Australia). Theres no point if I upload them to commons when they'll be on WP within the week. Ausmeerkat has already requested two further shields so far. All the shields in your former set have already been converted (unless I missed one or two XD). -- Nbound (talk) 04:14, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- @Rom rulz424: - You should also consider joining the Australian Roads Wikiproject and help us shape some of our decisions and the like in future. It'd also be good to get more articles to GA class and above :) -- Nbound (talk) 04:48, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Barkly Highway may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. Pacific Motorway
[edit]If you want to discuss the issue of the Pacific Motorway, discuss it, but do not edit-war, which could end up in a block. Start a formal discussion on the talk page by all means, and advertise it at WP:AURD but while discussion is underway (as it is now) you should respect WP:BRD and note that the WP:STATUSQUO reigns. --AussieLegend (✉) 07:07, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
propose merge from Adelaide–Crafers Highway to South Eastern Freeway
[edit]As a past editor of at least one of the articles, you may wish to comment at Talk:South Eastern Freeway#2015 Merge proposal for a new proposal to merge these two articles as it appears the government now considers it to be all one road. As there will be quite a bit of work, I decided to consult before being bold. --Scott Davis Talk 22:25, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
