Conflict of interest editing on Wikipedia
[edit]This note probably should have been sent to you before as there is the strong appearance of COI editing of a related person at A. Bhattacharyya.
Hello, Atul Bhattacharyya. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article A. Bhattacharyya, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. - Bri (talk) 16:39, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Bri Bri, I think you are talking about adding Asoke Kumar Bhattacharyya as grandfather of A. Bhattacharyya. I read about it in the blog of A. Bhattacharyya. There is also a 'felicitation volume' which contains Asoke Kumar Bhattacharyya's CV and family tree. So I know that he is her grandfather. Secondly, on her facebook, recently, she posted the photo of her mother Chitra Bhattacharyya receiving the Award from the President of India on his behalf. I cannot establish any online citation to prove this except these:
http://www.thecitizen.in/index.php/NewsDetail/index/7/10416/An-Author-and-a-Poet-Speaks
(see Q. 2)
http://anuradhabhattacharyya.blogspot.in/2015/04/my-dadu-by-anuradha-bhattacharyya.html
THIS IS THE BOOK IN PRINT: Indian Culture – Multifaceted Research – a Felicitation Volume in Honour of Professor A. K. Bhattacharyya (2015) edited by Prof. Amalendu Chakraborty, former professor of Philosophy, Calcutta University. Gariya Bauddha Samskriti Samsad: Kolkata.
Well, I have an old copy of the book it seems. The volume is available at amazon. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.in/Culture-Multifacet-Researches-Prof-Amalendu-Chakraborty/dp/8180903176/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1494097270&sr=1-5 My copy has no ISBN. Probably Professor Chakraborty sent it to a regular publisher (Bharatiya Kala Prakashan (2017) afterwards. It includes a paper by Dr. A. Bhattacharyya on Buddhism & Lacan called 'Upaya and the Limits of Love and Knowledge'.
However, the book MY DADU has not been published by her yet. So we can wait.
There is another 'citation needed' which I thought was evident as she is already teaching. So I searched and found a small evidence:
http://journals.sagepub.com/pb-assets/cmscontent/HPY/HPY_Freud_dissertations_list.pdf. It appeared in google search. After downloading the pdf, one has to find her name.

- Atul, your comments here miss the mark and make me think you don't appreciate the community's conception of conflict of interest. Did you read any of the material above? This is not at all about the sources you're talking about, awards from the president, or whatever else you commented on. It is about your apparent involvement with the subject of the article. Could you say here, yes or no, do you have a connection to the subject? You don't have to reply with details that would reveal personal information if you don't wish to. - Bri (talk) 19:18, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
We are Bengalis in Chandigarh. I am a student in PEC University of Technology. I follow her posts in facebook and read her poems etc. AtulAtul Bhattacharyya (talk) 19:27, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Bri Bri, Now I have read your COI details. I am not a relative or friend of Anuradha Bhattacharyya. I am not working in any company. Nobody asked me to create this page. I am only a follower of poetry blogs etc. I live in Chandigarh with my parents. So I know A. Bhattacharyya by face, more than I know N. Sahoo and A. Subramanian. They don't live in Chandigarh. But I follow their poetry also. In fact, their pages are available in Wiki.
I thought you wanted to know how I know that A. K. Bhattacharyya is her relative. This I thought because the line about it has been removed from the page. The rest of the information I gathered from her facebook posts. Her father died of heart attack. Then her grandfather died in June. her husband won a national Championship. She writes about her daughter all the time. Then she writes about her upcoming books. All these gave me a picture of her life. On Wiki, whatever cannot be supported with 'reliable sources' can be deleted. So no problem.
Two years ago I was discouraged to create pages unless I can cite 'reliable sources' for the poet's page. So I did not create any other page. If you think I have 'single interest' or something like that, it is because I want to perfect the work I started. Then only I can write about other notable poets.
Anything else? Is a PRINTED BOOK a good reference? You did not explain that to me. And you did not remove the tag from the top of the page. Or delete all the information that is not correctly sourced.
Thank you. AtulAtul Bhattacharyya (talk) 23:27, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Basic questions about editing
[edit]You asked a lot of basics above. I recommend either asking at WP:Teahouse, or consulting one of the "how to" guides such as The Missing Manual. Bri (talk) 02:58, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Bri. I found this: "Only reliable sources hold up to the scrutiny of the Wikipedia community. But what makes a source reliable? To quote from Wikipedia's Identifying reliable sources guideline (shortcut: WP:IRS): "Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for accuracy and for checking the facts." Most international and national newspapers, magazines, and scientific journals put significant resources into avoiding mistakes, to maintain their credibility and readership (and their survival in the face of libel and other lawsuits). On the other hand, an anonymous blogger can feel pretty free to post anything on the Web without worrying about the consequences. The general rule is: "Self-published books, personal Web sites, and blogs are largely not acceptable as sources." (Wikipedia:Verifiability)"
Which means the printed book I have mentioned is a reliable source. It is not 'missing' because the one at Amazon is a new edition with the same contents, as shown in the 'about the product'. Only it has changed its name from 'felicitation' to 'commemoration' obviously because AK Bhattacharyya has died.
I am not adding anything else to the page of A. Bhattacharyya. I added 2 citations after you marked the "citation needed" on the page. Now I want to close the chapter. I am removing the COI tag. I will create a page for another poet shortly. And more carefully.
Okay? Thank you for your guidance. AtulAtul Bhattacharyya (talk) 10:52, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Dear Bri (talk), have you noticed that the COI tag has reappeared in the A. Bhattacharyya page? If yes, ok. If no, is it possible for you to remove it and edit the page to every other editor's satisfaction?
I am not editing it because the COI tag says I am its major editor. AtulAtul Bhattacharyya (talk) 16:32, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
