British Rail Class 442

[edit]

Thanks for your note. It's fairly straightforward; the entire section only had one relavant citation - the fact that the units are no longer used by SWT and that some units are to be used for Gatwick Express. That was already covered elsewhere in the article, so I moved the citatation to the main body of the article. The rest of the information included in the section is basically commentary and not encyclopaedic; e.g. "only two diagrams were expected to be worked...". That level of infomation or 'gossip' may be suitable for a fansite - but is not suitable for Wikipedia. (Check out the 5 pillars as noted above.) Your recent edit of British Rail Class 442

[edit]

Your edit of removing pictures that you said 'served no purpose' have been reversed, due to these pictures showing differnt angles of the train and the diagram showing the new livery and make-up of the train. A1personage (talk) 09:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

British Rail Class 442

[edit]

First of all, I have not created any of these pictures, I have found them on Wikimedia Commons, in the Class 442 category. Second, the diagram, shows the new livery applied to the trains. I have confirmed this livery is correct from Today's Railways, Rail and Modern Railways. All these magazines showed this livery, so it is correct. The intermediate carriages picture was to show how the carriage is similar to a British Rail Mark 3 carriage. The 10 car picture was to show how a 10 car train looks. As this picture was taken on the Weymouth line, naturally I put 'on the Weymouth line'. I realise that Wikipedia isn't a rail forum, but i have been told by other editors that if you have many pictures of the article, you should use them. Please read, and familiarise yourself with this section, WP:NOT#NEWS of Wikipedia policy relating to the addition of "News" tpye items. Further additions of information about where stock is and when it is being overhauled will be undone. This is an encyclopedia, not "Railnews". Ludgate (talk) 07:44, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I reverted your formation change, as I got the information from the Platform 5 book of british EMUs, 2009 edition. -mattbuck (Talk) 22:59, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the rest of the article you will see that your formation is wrong. Under fleet details it gives the meaning of the abbreviations. The formation you have provided is DTFso-TSO-MBRMB-TSO-DTSO and a breakdown of those meanings is below:

  • Driving Trailer First semi-open: First class is now located in the centre coach for the majority of units.
  • Trailer Standard Open: abbreviation correct.
  • Motor Break Restaurant Miniature Buffet: It was never a Restaurant and the buffet was removed during refurbishment and replaced with standard seating.
  • Trailer Standard Open: Its actually a Trailer Standard Wheelchair to indicate it has a disabled space and toilet in this coach.
  • Driving Trailer Standard Open: abbreviation correct even though open isn't included on the page as the entire train is open seating.

If you agree with my comments, could you please revert your edit or provide an explanation why you disagree.
