Welcome!

Hello, Ashl3yNic0le22, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Maxx metals, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Naraht (talk) 19:12, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Wikipedia.

[edit]

You will probably want to take a look at WP:Company to get a feeling for guidance on writing about a company. Two things really stand out in regards to writing an article like you did. The first is that it should be from a Neutral Point of View (people reading the article shouldn't be able to tell if you like it, hate it, or have never shopped at it). Although still a stub (which means it should be improved), Giant-Landover (a grocery chain) is a decent example. The other is Notability. Trying to gauge whether a business is notable can be tricky, but the rule of thumb that I personally work with is it should either 1) have stores over a wide area, 2) be a major employer in a town or 3) is historical enough that it would (or could be) a tourist attraction. (Others may have different rules of thumb). To give a feeling for what has in the past been notable enough in the metals industry, you may want to look at Category:Metalworking. The only companies that I found in that area are more like foundaries.

I would like to add a couple positive things to the mix. You seem to understand the usefulness of references and it was pretty well put together. You may want to add small improvements to other articles just to get a feeling for how things work. (and if you'd seen some of *my* early efforts you'd shudder). I'll be happy to look at anything you'd like to add to wikipedia, though to make sure that improvements have time to be made on the article, you may want to build it in your sandbox (see in the first line up near the top of your window). Let me know how I can help.Naraht (talk) 20:00, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay so I went back and did a sandbox post, would you mind taking a look. I kept it very netural. Great advice I now understand what you meant about remainin neutral.

Not sure if changes where made but I received a notification but coulkd not see the changes. Please advise if it's okay to submit.
I made changes to both what you had here and what you had in your sandbox. On this page, when you respond to things put colons at the beginning of the paragraphs with one more colon than what you are responding to, that enables it to be more clear. Also, the link that you had to the sandbox, I changed it to use the Wikipedia internal link with double brackets. (Also, in posting to talk pages, you should add four tildes in a row ~~~~ to the end of the message. (Note that I was able to actually show four tildes because I surrounded it with the nowiki pairing.
For the page in the sandbox, I made the type of changes that would be made to improve the articles like making references and moving the official site and it has moved considerably toward Neutral Point of View (if the article was longer having the company mission and tagline wouldn't unbalance it that much). See Trijicon for a good example of what a shorter one looks like. OTOH, Notability is still an issue, is there any coverage in the newspaper, news websites or book about it?Naraht (talk) 23:29, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
