Hello, Ashken1999, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Patricia Blondal

[edit]

Many of your "sandbox" changes are not appropriate Wikipedia content. We don't make value judgements in encyclopedic text, such as whether she graduated "proudly" or not, and we don't include unsourced claims of anybody's opinion, such as whether the novel was "praised" or not, or whether anybody called it "dazzlingly brilliant" or not — if you want the article to say any such thing, then you have to directly cite the sources that support the claim. We have to follow a strictly neutral point of view focused on the facts, and cannot include our own or anybody else's opinions or interpretations without reliable sourcing for them.

Furthermore, the sentence "Her colleague, Margaret Laurence, shifted her attention from a Western Canadian to a Western African viewpoint for this second novel" simply doesn't make any sense — what does Margaret Laurence's attention or viewpoint have to do with Blondal's writing? There's no context being given for why the sentence is there at all.

And finally, you must write in WP:LASTNAME mode. Once her first name has been given in the introduction, all references to her through the rest of the article must be either "Blondal" or the appropriate pronouns — the only time she may ever be referred to with "Patricia" again is if "Blondal" would be ambiguous as to who it referred to, as in the sentence "She married Harold Blondal, a physician who became a cancer researcher, in 1946. The couple had two children, Stephanie and John; Patricia worked as a journalist and in public relations before devoting herself to getting published as a creative writer in 1955." Saying that "Blondal worked as a journalist" would be unclear in that sentence as to whether it meant Patricia or Harold, so it's appropriate to use Patricia there — but "her surname would be ambiguous in this particular context" is the only circumstance in which the article can ever refer to her by her first name, and it must be "Blondal" or a pronoun, never "Patricia", everywhere else without exception.

We're not opposed to updates and improvements to our articles, obviously, but you have to follow our rules about neutrality and proper sourcing and writing tone. If you're willing to work on your draft some more to fix those problems, then that will change things, but what you've written so far isn't appropriate for the article in its existing form and needs some revision before it's ready for prime time.
