Sources for John Deeks
[edit]Hello, good work on John Deeks, and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. What websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to John Deeks? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? Thank you very much. - SimonP 05:09, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Christmas
[edit]Actually, as it happens, the Russians celebrate it in January [1] ;) Morwen - Talk 23:53, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah I was originally going to take out the reference to December, but then realised I might be being a little hasty, so left it in. However I forgot to change my comment.
- Fair enough ;) I notice the article doesn't actually mention that - but not sure what other countries keep that calendar. Morwen - Talk 00:35, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
TV
[edit]Hi mate, noticed your work on John Deeks among other things. Drop us a line re TV presenters/voiceovers. Rogerthat 13:10, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Great job!
[edit]I went to revert User:In Name And Blood's edits, and saw you've already all of them! :) —Quarl (talk) 2006-01-20 08:12Z
- Thanks re User:In Name And Blood. He put a lot of work into that didn't he? His earlier edits (Rowan Stewart, filmmaker) seem dodgy too. Asa01 08:15, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, I already nominated Rowan Stewart and Echoes Of Grace for deletion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rowan Stewart) :) —Quarl (talk) 2006-01-20 08:19Z
Wow!
[edit]Hey - quick work dabbing The Dismissal (television series)! I was about to do it myself and couldn't work out how come those articles supposedly linked to The Dismissal but were already linked to The Dismissal (television series) when I tried editing them... Thanks! Regards, CLW 08:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I noticed the merge had occured so just changed the linking to pages. Then I realised the merge had just happened minutes before, so I hope I wasn't loking you out when you were trying to update the linking-to pages! Asa01 08:47, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I think if you do a web search or look up a dictionary you will find 'broadcasted' is a word. --ozzmosis 03:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Straw poll on the infobox
[edit]Hi, I don't know if you haven't noticed the message on the BB06 talk page, or if you've chosen not to vote, or whatever; but if you have missed it, there's a straw poll taking place on this page, about whether the infobox should have colours going right through the rows, or whether colours should just be on the side, in one box. If you want to vote, then feel free. And if you don't, then feel free as well, I guess. Anyway, just letting you know about it in case you didn't know already. --JD[don't talk|email] 23:37, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Ste4k
[edit](copied over from my talk page)
- Though it is hardly the most important article, I thought her attempted AfD of Big Brother (Australia series 6) [[2]] was pretty outrageous, and clearly misinterpreted the policies quoted in the AfD (Like, sure the contestants on the show are not notable in themsevles, but the article is not about those individuals, it is about an actual television show, and most TV shows have acticles.) This AfD came after lots of lengthy arguments conducted on that article's talk page. Asa01 04:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I completely agree. That was the AfD that first brought ste4k to my attention. It was a blatantly inappropriate nomination, but every time I discussed it with her she refused to listen to what I was saying, instead replying with things like "Please see WP:VER, thanks." Her behavior has certainly not improved since then. You may be interested in commenting on an RfC on her behavior that is being prepared at User:Will Beback/Sandbox. Thanks. --Nscheffey(T/C) 02:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Entry for Philippa Baker
[edit]Hi,
I'm not sure that I'm doing this right, but I'm trying to contact Asa01. As far as I can tell, you are the author of the entry on Philippa Baker, Australian actor from Number 96.
Philippa Baker is my mother. I do not doubt that your entry is correct, but there are some details that my mum doesn't remember.
I wondered if you could tell me your source for saying she and Johnny were written out of Number 96 at the end of 1974? She doesn't recall this, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. If I knew where you got that information, I could judge how accurate it is likely to be.
My email address is amanda-wiki at gormand com au
Thanks,

Cashed Up Bogan
[edit]Why does this have its own page? We already have bogan which surely is enough?
Furthermore, I have said in that article's talk page, this page seems highly dodgy. Wikipedia should not have original research and stuff should be verified. In this case it seems that it is the one external reference that is engaging in the original research: The Age chatted to a single marketing guy who went on about the concept of cub. Whether the cub really is a notable, new, or specific phenomenon is not coroborated by that article. The article just reprints one person's opinion. Furthermore there is no coroboration that any other marketing people believe in the concept, or if anyone else uses the term at all. So wikipedia is reproducing someone else's original research, but presenting that original research as fact. Asa01 21:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- G'Day Asa01,
I've seen that marketing research featured in an article in The Sydney Morning Herald also. It was also used to describe Shane Warne in another Herald article recently. But these are not the only places that the term has been used lately. I've seen it used on a number of blogs/forums, magazine articles and even on The Chaser's War on Everything TV show.
I don't feel passion for the article remaining. Maybe it is enough to include it in the Bogan article. I suppose you might think differently when it appears in the next edition of the Macquarie dictionary. J Bar 23:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Chuck Cunningham
[edit]Thanks for letting me know. I've redeleted it and protected the page. Nandesuka 03:27, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Carmen Duncan
[edit]Thanks, the Carmen Duncan article needed a good picture! Did she appear on Number 96 before Australian TV switched to color? I was wondering why it was in black and white (in the US, we switched to color in the mid-1960s). Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 17:54, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Shrimp vs. prawns
[edit]Actually they are different groups of species. See shrimp and prawn. But usually a cuisine will only use one term, despite whether shrimp or prawns are being referred to. Grouse 20:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Bogan List
[edit]Hi. On the Bogan talk page you express strong disapproval at the plethora of original reseearch in the bogan list; further, you advocate removing all original research. Do you think any of the purported traits should remain? If so, which ones? I will delete the whole list unless someone makes an argument for any particular item remaining. Question
[edit]Are you a UK Ex-Pat at all? I'm just wondering because you seem to know a fair bit about Family Affairs. Conquistador2k6 27 October 13:50
Carry on at your convenience / Brighton Palace Pier
[edit]Hi, I see you've been improving the Carry On At Your Convenience article, and I wanted to ask you about one of your changes.
When referring to the Pier's rifle range seen in the film, the article used to say that this feature was not known to be portrayed anywhere else - I wrote that in fact, and have been hunting for any other source ever since I saw the film and was intrigued. There is evidence on the pier itself of some support structure down there, and of some steps, but these could just as easily have belonged to an access way. Certainly the feature was gone by the time I moved to Brighton in 1990. But I see you've changed the article to say, "a feature that did not exist in reality", and I'd love to know if you know that for sure, perhaps from having been there around the date of the filming, or from a source relating to the film, or if you just meant to say "a feature which no longer exists". If there is a source, we could add it to the article as a reference. If not, I'd prefer to revert it to a less categorical statement.
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this. :) – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 22:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello! I am sorry to say that I have no special knowledge of the pier... I am in Australia not the UK (I have been to the UK, but not to Brighton.) The only reason I changed it was because I was trying to clarify the meaning. I thought (it seems, incorrectly) that the editor was trying to say that the film shows something that doesn't exist in the real structure (something films do all the time). So no special knowledge of the pier here. A check of the intricately detailed book The Carry On Companion by Robert Ross yields no further information in this regards. I have no problems with you reverting the text to what it was. (That is of course Larry Martyn from Are You Being Served in the rifle range.) Asa01 00:19, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying – okay, I'll restore it (and think about better ways to word it so that it's more clear.) – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 12:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Family Affairs project
[edit]It seems as if we're the only two who actually give/gave a stuff about this great show. What say we have a proper bash at it? I've been reading pages Charnham station on the internet archive and racking my brains for accurate character info. Conquistador2k6 4 December 2006 23:00 (UTC)
- Yes I think it was an interesting show (The Hart's demise) and later episodes were well-made and well written. Due to a sometimes busy schedule I haven't followed all storylines. It is still screening on cable here but I have not seen an episode since Graham Harker. Some events I know about but others I don't. But I will tidy up and add info here and there. I do not have too much behind the scenes info. Asa01 03:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Conspicuous consumption
[edit]You added a very appropriate link to Conspicuous consumption. It reminds me of the now almost defunct cult of bling-bling. Rintrah 08:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Nouveau riche is of course the old term for what are now renamed Cashed Up Bogans by marketing people. Mx can hardly print an article about the subject of "Nouveau riche" - that's old - but luckily there's a new name for exactly the same thing, so they can print an article using the new name as if the concept is something new (along with pics that keep their advertisers happy and rich). Asa01 10:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- I thought I would just explain that the "cultural cringe" comment was meant to be an example of deadpan humour. Your magnificent volume of contributions especially to the improvement of articles on Australian cultural ephemera clearly shows that you are not a cringer. Image:John Orcsik in Number 96.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:John Orcsik in Number 96.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 17:34, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

The article on Jayne Mansfield, that you helped greatly to improve has been up for peer review. Many improvements were suggested, and I managed to address a few of those issues. But, without your help the article is getting stagnant. The biggest problem still lies with style and citations. Please, take a look that review here. I really believe that the time is ripe for the article to become at least a good article, if not an feature article, with your help. Aditya(talk • contribs) 05:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Please, advise
[edit]Since you have helped the Jayne Mansfield article to become what it is today, I'd like to draw your attention to another article split off from the main one - Jayne Mansfield in popular culture. It has been nominated for deletion a second time here, and the supports so far are three way - "Delete", "Keep" and "Merge" - with a few comments thrown in (mostly by the nominator and I). Would you take a look at the debate and the article? Even if you stay away from voicing your view on the debate page, you can advise me on my talk page (may be lend a hand, too). I hope I am not canvassing :P. Aditya(talk • contribs) 14:34, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Thelma Scott and James Condon in Number 96.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Thelma Scott and James Condon in Number 96.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Closedmouth (talk) 12:47, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:19, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- John Orcsik - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Mike Dorsey - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Replaceable fair use File:Carol Raye as Amanda in Number 96.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Carol Raye as Amanda in Number 96.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 13:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Number 96 Cash Harmon Television.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Number 96 Cash Harmon Television.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 13:44, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Number96 27.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Number96 27.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:23, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
The file File:Malcolm Thompson and Suzanne Church in Number 96.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Decorative use of non-free screenshot in Television in Australia#Television and programming in the 1970s. This particular screenshot itself is not the subject of any sourced critical commentary with in the relevant section and the program is just one of many mentioned by name in the section; so there's the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is not being provided. TV stations often provide entertainment programming such a soap operas, etc. and a non-free screenshot from one of them is not needed for the reader to understand that point.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:22, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
