Help with replacing article on agricultural biodiversity

I would like to rewrite the article on agricultural biodiversity / agrobiodiversity as not only does it need additional sources, but also it is a mess without a structure. Agricultural biodiversity
I have started writing an alternative article in my sandbox User:ArwenIncognito/sandbox. It's still quite rough and needs all the references putting in. But i have questions:
1. is it ok to replace a whole article? I will use all the examples and references that have already been posted where they are not POV. 2. If so, how do i replace a whole article? 3. I work in organization conducting scientific research into the role of agricultural biodiversity in sustainable food and agriculture systems. We are probably the most knowledgeable organization on this subject so I am a good person i think to write this article. Am i in danger of being charged with COI, if everything i write is substantiated with peer-reviewed articles, substantiated and verifiable? Thank you for any advice, tips, help ArwenIncognito (talk) 15:21, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, it's possible to replace an article in its entirety. Holding a discussion on the talk page before you do it is a good way to avoid disagreements and frustration later. Technically, replacing the whole article content is no different from any other edit - the new content of your edit window replaces whatever was there before.
- It's good that you bring up the issue of COI. Yes, you could be construed to have a conflict. While you've given an explanation on your userpage, it would be proper to list the articles you are editing or proposing to edit where a conflict might occur.
- As to the drafting procedure you are going through, I'm afraid you may be doing it wrong. The key to successful editing on Wikipedia is to have your references in hand first and add the citations for each sentence or paragraph you've written based on those references. Going back later to find and add references for what you've already written is usually a problem. Anything written based on your own knowledge, without providing these independent references, is not going to be accepted. There's an essay that may apply here which it might benefit you to read: WP:EXPERT. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 15:45, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much for responding so rapidly and your good advice. 1. I did leave a post in 2018 under a section called 'Reorganization of the page'asking if anyone would collaborate with me on reorganizing the page. There had been a brief flurry of messages on reorganization in 2007 (yes 2007 not 2017) and someone at that point suggested a structure, which i have used as a starting point (though much has changed in agrobiodiversity research in the last 13 years). No one got back to me in the last 2 years. 2. OK got it. Will just edit 3. OK i will list the articles. I am also plugged into networks on this topic from a wide variety of viewpoints and institutions (different universities, research institutes) so can reach out and see if anyone is a wikipedian and invite comments/edits to strengthen the article. 4. Re the references I have them all in hand, but since I couldn't remember how to add references, I thought it easier to get the shape of the article in place first and then write out all the references in the right places. They are all peer reviewed journals, or books from sources like Yale University, so it should be OK. I'll make sure that I add them in my sandbox, before i attempt to edit the real page, so that i don't run the risk of not being accepted as you say. I will read the article you kindly shared, before going any further. Then i will Be Bold. But not today! It took me 2 years to get the courage to get this far! Thank you again for your help and encouragement. ArwenIncognito (talk) 17:48, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
