How to render pi in Wikipedia pages

[edit]

I noticed that you changed how pi was represented in Special:Diff/927683107. One consequence of doing it this way is that the link coloring is lost, so the reader does not have a visible cue that there is a link to be followed. You also mentioned "markdown" in your edit summary, which makes me think that you believe Wikipedia's peculiar markup language to be a flavor of Markdown. I don't thank that's true, since the wiki markup language predated 2004, but there have definitely been efforts towards making wiki markup have more in common with Markdown.

I don't want go go lumbering around changing your work without consulting you. Based on reading the MOS:MATH page and List of mathematical symbols by subject#Mathematical constants in particular, my suggestion is to use the code [[PI|{{pi}}]] in contexts where pi is not being used within a larger mathematical expression or formula (where the LaTeX markup style would be more appropriate). — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:02, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
