Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Ards Historical, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

You may also want to take the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can visit The Teahouse to ask questions or seek help.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome! <-- that is a canned message up to here, but I am in fact a real person and would like to welcome you. I noticed you edited at List of historical societies and that your edit was reverted by another editor. Hey, it is hard to get started here in Wikipedia, because there are lots of written and unwritten rules that a new editor can run afoul of. I would like to help you get started if I may. I will "watchlist" here so I will likely see any response you make here, but if you reply and I don't respond please feel free to contact me at my own Talk page, where I will be sure to receive your message and I could return here. To start, I noticed you added Ards Historical Society (currently a redlink) to the list of historical societies, and I will add that there again, myself, after having verified that indeed such an organization exists :) as you know of course. I will also add an official-looking footnote or two to help keep the deleters away, and my own record/reputation as an editor will help make the edit "stick". :) I hope that you might be an informed local historian or history buff and interested/able in improving coverage of Ards (territory) in terms of text and/or photos. It would be great to have you on board. FYI, there is a "WikiProject" group of editors interested in developing Wikipedia coverage of local history, wp:HSITES, which I belong to and to which I'd like to invite you to join. It hasn't been very active recently but remains a place where you can share and get help.

An issue raised explicitly or implied by the other editor is that your username seems to be intended for use by the organization, while username policy here is that the username should be specific to an individual. So it would be good if you could yourself request to have your user account name changed, or simply open a new account, in a different name. You could be, say "ardsbuff" or "ards1234" or anything else signifying an interest in Ards, or something else entirely. If you open a new account please do let me know.

Anyhow, I hope you first interactions with Wikipedia haven't been all bad, and that you might return and contribute more successfully! Cheers, --doncram 21:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. The username policy info is at Wikipedia:Username policy. Shortcut wp:ISU goes to its section on "implied shared use". wp:UNC goes to its section on getting a username changed (again, which you could do or skip and just start a new account). Also, sorry about the horridly old Talk page editing interface that we have to work with here, it is very antiquated. --doncram 21:12, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Ards Historical, I noticed your article was declined at Articles for Creation, and that can be disappointing. If you are wondering why your article submission was declined, please post a question at the Articles for creation help desk. If you have any other questions about your editing experience, we'd love to help you at the Teahouse, a friendly space on Wikipedia where experienced editors lend a hand to help new editors like yourself! See you there! MatthewVanitas (talk) 00:23, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again...don't give up... I can try to help with that article. For one thing, it should be titled "Market House" plus a parenthetical location, , and focus should be on it as a historic site. Is it a listed building? That would make all the difference. And the article must have references. Can you please cite a source or 2 or 3. The source can be a book or article that is not online, too. But can you link to any online sources? --doncram 03:00, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I have added to the draft article and I think it is good enough for mainspace now, probably to go as Market House, Newtownards. Are you there? It would be nice if you could comment here or at the Talk page of the draft or mainspace article. --doncram 20:39, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ards Historical Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 22:18, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
