Regarding Ted Matthews
[edit]I received your message on my talkpage, and recommend that you start the article over again in your userspace. What this means is that you click User:Apone01/sandbox and make the article there. Once you've finished the article and added sources (see THIS LINK for some good suggestions on how to write your first article), come back to my talkpage and I'll have a look over the article and give you advice from there. The last thing I'd want is to see you put all that effort into recreating the article only to have it deleted again; making it in your sandbox gives you enough time to "get it right" so that it survives on Wikipedia. If Mr. Matthews is truly notable, there will be independent, reliable references that show how he was notable in his field of work. You may also be interested in joining/asking assistance from the Pornography wikiproject - those are wikipedians that are especially interested in seeing quality, encyclopedic articles written and maintained about Pornographic actors/films. Perhaps they can be of assistance to you as well. Good luck, and happy editing! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:48, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much Keeper! I truly appreciate your helpful approach.
For the record, please note that I am not talking about Ted Matthews the pornstar. I am talking about Ted Matthews of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the brand coach and author of Brand: It Ain't the Logo* (*It's what people think of you) - who has run into this confusion before! And...I was hoping to use Ted's book as my main source. However upon reading the rule on self-published works, I do not think we can make this source, at this time, conform to your requirements. The book has not yet been picked up by a publishing house, but we continue to work on it. Meanwhile, its cover carries endorsements from a growing list of people including, among many others: a former VP of Yahoo!, the former CEO of MacLaren McCann, a Senior Editor at PROFIT magazine and esteemed marketing professors at two of the world's top MBA schools: Schulich and Rotman. Indeed Schulich is about to add it to its MBA reading list.
Does any of this make any difference?Apone01 (talk) 18:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's really funny! My apologies about all the links to the Porn stuff :-). The article that JodyB deleted (as an admin I can still see text that was deleted) was about a minor gay porn star. I'll take your word for it that it's not the same person :-) Anyway, to answer your question, it is probably not a good time to add an article about Ted Matthews the author and "brand coach". If his book has not been picked up by a publisher, then by rule his book is not notable, and neither is he as an author. For reference, read the inclusion requirements regarding books, regarding biographies, and more specifically living persons. The endorsements on the cover of the book (dustcover blurbs I assume) are generally either paid endorsements or publisher arranged, and therefore generally not seen as reliable opinions of the contents of the book (their purpose is to help sell the book, inherently biased in that way). If/when the book/author meets our criteria, I'll be more than happy to help you out at that time. Thanks, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:46, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Keeper, thanks again for being so helpful. We will revisit our approach to a Wikipedia entry. Until then...Apone01 (talk) 19:26, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds fine - good luck with your book, I hope you find a publisher! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 19:27, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
