Greetings, ApolloCreed, and welcome to Wikipedia. It's good to see new folks showing an interest in the place and wanting to improve the articles. Thanks for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

If you have any questions, feel free to drop by my talk page and ask. I'll do my best to provide you with an answer. If you're more of a "research it yourself" type, there's always Wikipedia:Where to ask a question. The Help Desk is also a good place for info.

Whenever you leave a comment on someone's talk page or on the Help Desk page or whatever, remember to sign your name. You do this by typing four tildes (~~~~) in a row at the end of your comments or questions. This will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome to Wikipedia.

Mumford

[edit]

Hi there... just so you know, I'm going to have to delete Mumford's pic. It was actually not a screenshot, but a photo for the book Sesame Street Unpaved. Unless we can prove that it was also a press photo at one point, it's not a useable picture for Wikipedia. Thanks anyway, for trying to find a pic. -- user:zanimum

Thinks for telling me why you deleted my Mumford image. Do you think this image would be acceptable? It's from this page, which details the "Breaking News" Kermit the Frog segments from the Muppet Show.
This image of Mumford is clearer, but I'm less certain it is a screenshot from a TV show. That pic came from this page. -- ApolloCreed 19:38, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Apollo, I'm uploading the second, simply because we have nothing to tell us it isn't a screenshot, so we can easily claim innocence. -- user:zanimum

Welcome to the Welcoming Committee

[edit]

Thanks for signing up. You're right about making your welcomes personal. If we wanted to put the same welcome template on every user talk page, we wouldn't need a human welcoming committee. Welcoming is about quality, not quantity. Some users use {{welcome}} like crazy to try to increase their edit count, but I think we should concentrate on helping out those new users who have shown that they're actually interested in helping us. Our main goal shouldn't be to put space-fillers on their talk pages, but to make them feel appreciated and to answer their questions about Wikipedia. I find it helpful to recommend Wikipedia:WikiProjects and regional notice boards based upon their first contributions. If you have any other ideas, siggest them at Wikipedia talk:Welcoming committee. Have fun welcoming new users. --TantalumTelluride 02:50, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Careful

[edit]

Thanks for trimming the list of TV shows, but I noticed that you removed a few that did not have a infobox. Some of the articles like A League of Their Own actually covered the movie and not the television show. Additionally Adam-12 and Adam Adamant Lives! which you removed do not have infoboxes. I really appreciate your work, but please be careful when removing items from the list. Best of luck --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 20:23, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I should be more careful as well! Thanks for reply and working on the list! --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 15:33, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: HTML vs Wiki Markup

[edit]

I DO use wiki markup but I am comfortable using HTML and since I read that it is allowed then what does it really matter what I use. I noticed in the link you posted that for some items like underline or strikeout it uses HTML in the example of how to do these things so seems to me HTML is acceptable. Plus the HTML tags look more 'cleaner' to me than a whole bunch of apostrophes do, but that his just me. Thanks for the suggestions but I think I will continue using a mix of wiki and HTML. [edit]

Please be careful to distinguish more carefully between Dominica and the Dominican Republic. You added {{DominicanRepublic-geo-stub}} the List of national parks of Dominica, which is nice, but that stub class is for the Dominican Republic, not Dominica. I've corrected it to {{Caribbean-geo-stub}}, but just I'd make sure you're aware that the 2 are separate countries, 1,000 miles apart. Tomertalk 08:15, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lotball

[edit]

For the record, the Myspace page was created after the article was put up for deletion in order to save the writing should it actually be destroyed. I will await the process, although lotball is not a "made up game" as you have put. If it is considered such, several other sport and game articles should then be deleted as well. It is a highly regional sport and, thusly, it made appear to be fictious. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.164.181.99 (talkcontribs)

Lotball, again

[edit]

Doesn't the fact that we're discussing this prove that it is notable or, at the very least, that it exists? This page has now had several different contributors and I'm sure that if the hit count was known for this site, you would find that it has had an abnormally large impact for a brand new article. I understand the neccesity for putting articles up for deletion, like spam, advertising, multiple articles on the same subject, or "non notable" topics, but does this article really fit under any of those? It is obviously not spam or advertising, and this is the only lotball article on Wikipedia. Though some may claim that it is supposedly "nn," what truly defines an article as notable? I have often surfed Wikipedia and found articles on mindless garbage I don't care about. The truth of the matter is that those articles might not matter to me, but they do matter to someone, they do matter to those who know what the article is about and those who wish to learn. Isn't that what Wikipedia is for, those who wish to learn? I love Wikipedia and I love the ideals for which it stands. I would never want to make something that would be harmfull to its goals. I ask you to please uphold the ideals of Wikipedia and keep this article. -INVENTM

Beer cats

[edit]

It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. The proposal has been supported by User:Syrthiss, and supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:The Original Leftys DISS Destroyer.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:The Original Leftys DISS Destroyer.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:FRUiTS No 95.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FRUiTS No 95.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:56, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Cooley_High.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cooley_High.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Beer category decision

[edit]

A discussion has been opened on changes that have been made to the existing Beer category system. The changes reverse the decision made by the Project in April 2006. The changes were based on agreement by only two people, and by a discussion that took place outside the Beer Project. There may be some merit in the changes, and to prevent future conflict it is important that there is some discussion of the matter. Replaceable fair use Image:The CanKickers in Philly.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:The CanKickers in Philly.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Ricky81682 (talk) 04:32, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
