Speedy deletion of Tarek El Barbari

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Tarek El Barbari requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Make sure your additions are actually supported by your sources

[edit]

I have undone your edits to Uzair because the sources often had nothing to do with the article. Every part of your sourcing had problems.

In this edit, you cited:

  • The Jewish Encyclopedia's entry on Uzair does not mention etymology, even though you cited it for a claim about etymology. The Hebrew you mention in that etymology does not even appear in that JE entry either.
  • While Behindthename.com does say that Ozazias is Greek, it does not say that it is the Greek form of Uzair.
  • Citing all of Lane's Arabic-English lexicon is useless -- you need to name which specific pages in that lexicon you are citing. Even digging around for the عز entry, nothing in that lexicon entry connects it to Uzair. Uzair is not mentioned at all in that entry.
  • Hitchcock's Bible Names Dictionary normally does meet our reliable sourcing guidelines, but the entry you cited is on a completely different name -- Uzziah. According to the sources in the article, Uzair in Hebrew is either Ezra or Azariah. Hitchcock's does not mention Uzair in the Uzziah entry, and none of the other sources suggests that Uzziah is Uzair.
  • Wikipedia is not an acceptable source for Wikipedia. If a site repeats information from Wikipedia (such as isnare.com), that site is not a reliable source either. If a site has "wiki" in their name, they're not an acceptable source for Wikipedia. Otherwise, we open the door to circular sourcing.

In this edit, you cited:

  • Isnare.com retrieves its information from Wikipedia -- not an appropriate source.
  • The Jewish Encyclopedia entry "Son of God" and the Strong's Concordance entry on el would normally be reliable sources for their respective topic. However, those entries do not mention Uzair. The JE entry does not contain the Hebrew used in the section you cited it for. The Strong's entry does contain אל, but does not connect it to יה as a general concept, nor to Uzair.
  • Calmet's Dictionary of the Holy Bible is an outdated and therefore questionable source. The entry you cite is on the name Jezreel, which is completely irrelevant to the article.
  • Semiticroots.com has no editorial oversight and does not cite any sources -- it fails our reliable sourcing guidelines. Additionally, you were using it to comment on Jezreel, which was irrelevant to the article.
  • Wiktionary, like Wikipedia (being a sister-project of Wikipedia), is not an acceptable source for Wikipedia. Additionally, you were using it to comment on Jezreel, which was irrelevant to the article.

I strongly recommend you read WP:No original research (especially WP:SYNTH) and WP:Identifying reliable sources. Ian.thomson (talk) 02:23, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
