Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Antosi28, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some tips that you might find helpful:
- Link to other articles with double square brackets
- Here are some articles where you can practice adding links to other articles. When you've got at least two blue links in the article you can remove the code from the top of the page.
- Add pictures from Wikimedia Commons using thumb for thumbnail|Left, right or center so it knows where to go|a meaningful caption|alt=a description for blind people
- Example
- Click here for an exercise in adding images to articles.
- Now you know how to add pictures to Wikipedia, why not add your own? This shows you articles that are near you. Is there one without a picture or where you could take a better one? In many countries modern buildings are still copyrighted, but not in the UK and some other places. This is the upload page on Wikimedia Commons.
- Add headings with ==double equal signs==
- If an article has sections two editors can edit different sections simultaneously without edit conflicts. Four or more sections and you get a table of contents.
- Here are articles where you can practice adding sections when you've finished splitting an article into sections you can delete from the top of the page.
- ===subheadings are similar===
- When you add information to Wikipedia please summarize things in your own words, and tell us where you got the information from in the following format
- If you find unreferenced information on Wikipedia that you consider dubious or unlikely, first try to reference it yourself. If you know it is wrong, correct it, if you can't find a source then fact adds the famous [citation needed]. If, after a week no-one has referenced the information, feel free to remove it.
- Double single quotes gives you Italic and triple quotes Bold.
Many Wikipedians organise themselves by subject area, we have hundreds of WikiProjects ranging from Arts to Zoology, and I'm sure there will be ones that fit your interests. A good place to look for them is Category:WikiProjects by topic, alternatively the talkpages of articles you are interested in may have links to relevant Wikiprojects.
Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this adds your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, visit The Teahouse, ask me on my talk page, or , and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome! ϢereSpielChequers 12:06, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Manxman
[edit]Hello Antosi28, your contributions to Isle of Man shipping articles are much welcomed. However, like all additions, to meet the core Wikipedia policy of Wikipedia:Verifiability, in-line referencing is required; that guidance also explains what, in a Wikipedia context, is acceptable as a "Reliable Source". If I can help with this, please let me know. Davidships (talk) 12:46, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi David
- the captain on board the Manxman has confirmed the information to me, I’m sure he knows that it’s 12,000miles over 10,000 that the steam packet has said, as he may need to have made alternate routes on the day! Antosi28 (talk) 12:57, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- I am sorry, but you are misunderstanding what is required for content on WP. Of course the captain can be assumed to be a reliable person, who ought to know where he is, but it is not possible for readers to to verify that unless it is published by a third party, independent of him. In fact I am not so certain that what he has told you is correct - other sources, which may be correct or not, and are also not verifiable, suggest that Manxman did not call at Muscat after Colombo, but that she is, as published, calling at Jeddah, though you deleted that; she hardly came "via Ulsan", since that is wehere the voyage started. Davidships (talk) 19:18, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- She did as this states
- https://www.steam-packet.com/blog/captains-log/ Antosi28 (talk) 20:11, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Then I suggest that, if you believe that it meets the requirements for "Reliable Sources" as linked above, particularly regarding "blogs", you add that reference for your addition of a Hong Kong call. It says nothing about any of the other changes that were made from what was previously properly referenced and they should be reverted. Davidships (talk) 22:41, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Okay but I don’t know how to do the reference section on not the adding an external link! Antosi28 (talk) 22:46, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Here's the help page: Wikipedia:Inline citation. Have a go, and let me know if you get stuck - I'll look by here tomorrow.Davidships (talk) 23:57, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Released players
[edit]In the English system, contracts end on 30 June (so players leave clubs on that date) and begin on 1 July (so players join new clubs on that date). Please wait until those dates before editing. GiantSnowman 17:56, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- You do realise when they sign a new contract with a new club in the transfer market the old contract is nul and void Antosi28 (talk) 18:04, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- No, it's not. GiantSnowman 18:11, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
