I just wanted to stop by for a second this evening and thank you for your superb article on the Coronation of the Emperor of Brazil. As a person who is fascinated by such ceremonies, I wrote or helped to write several articles on coronations several years ago -- but this is one that I knew very little about. Your article fills a great void, is excellently written and researched, and I greatly enjoyed reading it. Major kudos, sir. -- Ecjmartin (talk) 00:39, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

The inaugurations are held during New Years Day, not a mid-night. BTW, thanks for your support. GoodDay (talk) 02:20, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- Inaugurations are obviously held during New Years day but that's beside the point. The term of office of the former president ends at midnight. As was the case in America too, prior to the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution. One president finished his term on March 3, the other took office on March 4. The 20th Amendment changed it to January 20th at noon. In Brazil, the term of one president ends on 31 December, as recorded in all official documents, and the successor's term begins on January 1st, when he takes the oath before Congress, and then receives the presidential sash from the former president at Planalto Palace. But the former president's term, and ability to sign any documents as president, has ceased since midnight. That's why the instrument of investiture says "until 31 December".
- Ya may as well start making the changes on the bios of Brazilian presidents & vice presidents, as now they're now non-consistent. GoodDay (talk) 02:32, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- That's a great problem with information from Brazil in wikipedia. Lots of people make simplifications. Such as stating that Deodoro da Fonseca's term as President started in 1889, when in fact he became president only in 1891, and was Head of the Provisional Government before that. The office of the President itself was only created by the 1891 Constitution. But correcting those inconsistencies in several articles is way more complex than correcting them in a single article that then presents detailed correct information. Brazil presidents & vice presidents consistency
[edit]Just to point out. If you're going to change Michel Temer's departure from office date to December 31, 2018. Then you must change the departure dates to all the Brazil presidents & vice presidents bio articles. Otherwise, it would look silly. GoodDay (talk) 22:59, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Also, note that when you changed back to the midnight dates at List of Presidents of Brazil, you forgot to do the same for Vice President of Brazil. We should be consistent in these matters, as best we can. GoodDay (talk) 23:20, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- @@GoodDay: Dear GoodDay. I agree with you that consistency among articles is an important value. However, that is not a sufficient reason to keep incorrect information online. I have made huge efforts to provide official sources, in the form of instruments of investiture, transcripts of Congressional sessions, audio and video of inaguration sessions, translations, etc, in an attempt to show that the end of term is officially 31 December and not 1 January. Unfortunately, others just ignore those sources when they please. Even official sources were claimed to be not enough at times, just because a translation wasn't immediately avaliable. Which contradicts wikipedia policy, that allow for the sources of articles to be in a foreign language. Imagine trying to write an article about German law without quoting German sources. Therefore, I believe that the paramount concern must be to remove false information and to provide true and accurate information, duly backed up by appropriate sources (in this case, official sources in the form of State Documents that point to the end of term dates). I have for a long time worked on improving the List of Presidents of Brazil article, since years ago, when it contained tons and tons of innacurate information (for instance, stating that Deodoro da Fonseca became president on 15 November 1889, when in reality that was the date when he became Head of the Provisional Government, years prior to his election and inauguration as President). Gross mistakes were corrected over the course of the years, including with the addition of many explanatory footnotes of the relevant historical events. That's why I follow up on the List of Presidents of Brazil article, and try to keep the information there correct. Now, once that article is correct as per the official sources, I agree that it is also important, in a second stage, to make the several other articles become consistent with that truth revealed by the sources. I myself can help with that in the coming days, but it is not my responsibility, frankly, if others have repeatedly ignored official sources, and if they have spread wrong information to several other articles. Antonio Basto (talk) 01:19, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- Tomorrow, I plan to run through all of the bios-in-question & restore the midnight dates. GoodDay (talk) 02:13, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
