[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. ThemFromSpace 22:12, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
I respect wiki pages from the bottom of my heart. Wiki has been a great source of my knowledge right from my teenage. My intentions were never to spam or misguide readers of wiki articles. The link which I posted on "income tax in India" or other tax related articles was completely related to the topic. The link helps people to calculate and prepare their tax returns in hassle free manner without any charges. The charges are only applicable when someone files his/her return. The sole idea of posting the link was to make people aware of this easy to use place for their convenience (and not like the complicated government site). I think this is why Wikipedia has provided external links to it's articles so that one user can help/guide others.
I do file my tax returns via this link but I'm in no way related to the site.
If you feel I have justified my reasons kindly reply. Also, I shall be grateful to you if you can guide me the proper way to do these things so that no problems happen next time.
Thanks
- Ok. For adding external links, the first place to look is our guideline for external links. In general, you should add external links that add to an encyclopedic understanding of the article's subject, but you should avoid ones with content that can be written directly into our articles. This is because we would rather host the information here within our articles than direct readers away from our site. There are also many types of external links which we advise against linking to. These are found under the guideline's section "links to be avoided". We try to avoid linking to different examples of a particular concept, since once we start linking to a few than the external links get bogged down with all sorts "examplespam". This is covered in point 13 of "links to be avoided" which advises against linking to sites with subjects more general or specific than the subject of the article. So in the general subject of the article IRS e-file we should avoid linking to specific examples. The link you placed would be welcome in an article specifically about the website myitreturn.com.
You are welcome to write an article about this website (providing that it passes our inclusion criteria for websites and then link to it from this article, since the link would qualify as the "official link" for the subject. Let me know if you need any help or further explanations. ThemFromSpace 03:32, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
