WikiProject L&O feedback

[edit]

Hello, I am an early career female wetland ecologist. I received my PhD from Clarkson University (NY) in Environmental Science and Engineering. My research focuses on restored wetland ecology and wetland assessment using remote sensing technologies. Currently, I am a postdoctoral associate researching wetland restorations in the Mississippi River valley.

I enjoyed reading your article. I bet it was a lot of work to research a scientist that has limited secondary sources published about her. You did a good job summarizing Dr. McKee's life and career. I have a few suggestions to improve the article.

  • In the lead section, I would say that Dr. McKee is a retired wetland plant ecologist. I don't think you need to say that she is a scientist and then what she specializes in.
  • Link to USGS and link to Wetland Aquatic Research Center
  • In the lead section, I would edit her publications to say something like: she has over 100 publications covering topics on... (and then summarize what topics those publications cover). Do not write how many citations she has because that number and changes daily.
  • In the Career Overview section, instead of saying undergraduate degree, say BS or Bachelor of Science.
  • I would reference this article where she describes her first encounter with mangroves and how that shaped her career. i think that would fit nicely in where she got her interests. That essay walks you through her early career too so there may be some good information there that you can source. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/343639590_The_field_trip_that_changed_the_course_of_my_career
  • In the Career Overview and in the lead, I would mention that she specifically studied mangroves.
  • I am not sure if this is the etiquette, but 4 of your citations are all to the same website Scientist Videographer but to different pages of the website. And 3 of your citations are to her various ResearchGate pages. I think that is misleading and increases the list of references. I would change it to just be the reference to the same home page of the websites
  • The first sentence of the Research Focus section is wonky. You don't need to start with "While receiving multiple degrees"
  • You say nothing about mangroves and from perusing her websites and publications she is primarily a mangrove researcher
  • In your Major Contributions, the tone of your writing is less neutral. This section just needs polishing.

Great start and lots of good effort. Keep going. KHillWells (talk) 15:29, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
