[edit]Hello, I'm Dismas. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Andrea Lowell, but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dismas|(talk) 01:37, 23 May 2013 (UTC) Welcome!
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Anndreeea, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing.
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The plain and simple conflict of interest guide
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- Tutorial

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 03:25, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I took a look at your article and made a few tweaks. The stuff you tried to post would not be allowed for two reasons:
- It is copied from AskMen - you can't copy/paste copyright material, you have to actually re-write it yourself.
- Even if you had written it yourself, it wouldn't fly as it's obviously promotional in nature
Compare with this one, which is another lady in the same line of work Anna_Sophia_Berglund - you see how it doesn't have any superlative words (sexy, cute, great, etc), and is just sort of factual and gets to the point? That's what you need in your bio - facts that can be sourced (and AskMen is probably ok for this, but I'm not positive), but written in a way such that the information is encyclopedic in nature, and written from a neutral point of view.
I added some of the bio stats you posted, assuming this is really you, but it would be best to find a published source for those, but I didn't add your birthdate - it's up to you if you want that in I suppose, some people don't include it for privacy reasons.
Again, welcome to wikipedia, and feel free to ask me if you have any questions. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 03:42, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I was going to reply with much the same info but thought I'd just tag my thoughts on to Obi-Wan's welcome here. I'll listify everything to keep things orderly.
- We don't actually know if you are Andrea Lowell. We're kind of taking your word for it at this point but have no proof as of right now. Think of it this way, anyone can sign up for an account and call themselves whatever they want. You're a (minor) celebrity and what's to stop anyone from making an account and saying that they're you. There may be a way to prove that you are who you say you are but I'm not familiar with that process. I know that sites like Twitter confirm that celebrity accounts are created by the actual celeb but I'm not sure about how to do that here. I'd be happy to look into that for you if you'd like.
- Yes, you can't just copy/paste things from other sites. Just like when you were in school and the teacher told you that you couldn't copy things from books but could put what the book said into your own words. It's a copyright violation to copy.
- IMDB is not considered a reliable source for much of anything. Most of their info is fan submitted and there is little to no error checking done by the IMDB staff. See WP:RS/IMDB for more on that.
- Things like birth dates are required to have a reliable source since it is an easily contested bit of personal data. See WP:BLP for more on Biographies of Living Persons.
- In general, it is best for the subject of an article to post their comments and corrections on the talk page for the article in question. In this case, that would be at Talk:Andrea Lowell. Then a neutral editor who does not know you or have any financial ties to you can add the info in a neutral tone. (Like Obi-Wan said, no use of "sexy, cute, great, etc")
- Like Obi-Wan, I welcome questions and comments and am willing to work with you given that you can provide published references for information. Thanks for understanding, Dismas|(talk) 20:06, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
