User talk:Annaroth88/Stull Cemetery, Kansas
This is not a proper Wikipedia entry. It does not have a summary header, hyperlinks, or any non-Internet references. It should also have a full bibliography. The entry should open with a brief paragraph explaining the topic and its significance. The entry should include hyperlinks to other relevant entries, especially Stull, Kansas (an entry that contains a brief discussion of the cemetery). The entry should be written for users who are not familiar with Kansas, Lawrence, Douglas County, Clinton Lake, or other local landmarks. I am adding some hyperlinks to show you the kinds of these that are required and what they should look like. What you have submitted is a brief essay. It is not in the form of a correct Wikipedia entry. Hoopes (talk) 17:39, 26 Nov~~ember 2012 (UTC)
The main point of this assignment was for you to write an entry that presents a balanced, unbiased perspective that accounts for multiple points of view. Neither the contents nor the hyperlinks of this entry demonstrate any consideration of critical thinking with respect to paranormal activity. You do not provide an informative history of the cemetery (such as who is buried there) or any appraisal of whether the legends have any basis in facts or actual events. Yours is an uncritical presentation, which is exactly the opposite of what I was seeking. Note that I was not expecting you to debunk the stories, but to provide a straightforward, unbiased entry that would represent critical thinking on a controversial topic. You mention the identification of the Stull Cemetery as the "Seventh Gate to Hell". What are the "gates to hell"? How many of them are there? What are the first six? This information is important for contextualizing discussion of the Stull Cemetery and critically evaluating claims about it. Hoopes (talk) 18:25, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Can you provide any corroboration or evaluation of the stories about historical events? For example, is it true that a boy was locked in the basement and had to cut his hand off to escape? Is it true that a woman was hanged at the cemetery? For what? When? If these stories have no basis in fact, has there been any discussion about why they are told? It is important to consider the possible effects of this information on the cemetery and the residents of Stull. Do you think that the entry as you wrote it would have increased or discouraged the unwanted visits and vandalism at the cemetery? Is there a responsible way to report on this site that would use Wikipedia as a way to encourage investigation but at the same time deter harmful activity? Hoopes (talk) 18:30, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
